Bush: Wants Palestinian elections to go forward as scheduled- says Palestinians should be allowed to vote in East Jerusalem

Apparently Dubbya has weighed in on the proposed delay on the Palestinian elections by Fatah and Abbas. Ynetnews - News - U.S.: Allow PA Jerusalemites to vote He also wants Palestinians living in Jerusalem to be able to vote as well, even though Palestinian political activity is banned in Jerusalem per the Oslo Accords, signed by both Israelis and Palestinians.

Today, Bush dispatched White House Middle East policy chief Elliott Abrams and Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Welch to the region to talk with Israelis and Palestinians about both the election issue and the Gaza checkpoints agreement which was brokered by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice November 15, but has "fallen behind schedule". To say the least.

Of course, the total disregard for those security arrangements for Gaza by Egypt and the Palestinians wouldn't have anything to do with that. Ri-ight!

Makes you wonder how many times the Palestinians can lie and totally avoid any responsibility for their committments and still get the proverbial one more chance.

Or how long the Israelis are going to continue to be willing to pay in blood for this farce.

The real story is that Bush wants these elections to go through no matter what as part of his ongoing Middle East Democracy initiative. And he doesn't want the Israelis concern about Hamas participating or about Arabs voting on Israeli territory for groups pledged to their destruction to get in the way.

Just for giggles, imagine that there was a terrorist regime in Mexico actively targeting Americans for violent death, and that this Mexican regime demanded that we let illegal aliens on American soil vote to consolidate and legitimize their regime.

Think Dubbya and Condi could sell that to their fellow Americans?
