al Qaeda on the run in the Phillipines

Abu Sulaiman, one of the top five leaders of the Abu Sayyaf group, an affiliate of al Qaeda was reported killed in a gunbattle on Tuesday on the island of Jolo, according to Phillipine military chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon.

"We are confident that with the death of Sulaiman, who is actually the number one planner, most of the activities of the Abu Sayyaf will continue to go down," Esperon said.

Ten other Abu Sayyaf fighters were killed in addition to their leader.

Sulaiman is one of the the jihad leaders wanted for the murder of three US citizens along with a number of other murders.
