Last year, he wrote an essay titled "If Europe Hates Itself," from which Ms. Fallaci reads this to me: "The West reveals . . . a hatred of itself, which is strange and can only be considered pathological; the West . . . no longer loves itself; in its own history, it now sees only what is deplorable and destructive, while it is no longer able to perceive what is great and pure."

When an atheist and a pope think the same thingsSissy Willishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04316411260777111360noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16816866.post-1149291998015019112006-06-02T16:46:00.000-07:002006-06-02T16:46:00.000-07:00Hi Shabbs..I'm really glad you saw this.Truth is, ...Hi Shabbs..I'm really glad you saw this.

Truth is, the media trashes every religion EXCEPT Islam..and I've got an article coming up on that.

Pope Benedict's words at Auschwitz were directed at the present and the future as well as at the past.

With all respect to John Paul, I have still never gotten over his kissing the Qu'ran, thus sanctifying (whether he meant to or not) what it says about Christians and Jews.

I think Benedict has a clearer sense of the linkage between the Islamist's threatened destruction of the Jews and their goals of destroying Christianity...One,because the evidence is clearer than it was in Poe John Paul's time and two, because while John Paul lived through the4 Nazi occupation, Benedict saw this process first hand, with the Nazis first attacking the Jews and then suborning the Church.

I really think we have a great Pope here..one who is right for these times.Freedom Fighterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13649470110087808596noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16816866.post-1149233640279314472006-06-02T00:34:00.000-07:002006-06-02T00:34:00.000-07:00It can be ignored, my friend, and glossed over by ...It can be ignored, my friend, and glossed over by the media, because the drive by media prefers to trash religion, in particular, dare i say it?, the Catholic Church, as outdated, oppressive, hateful, ignorant, superstitious and the like. How odd the world's media covered the funeral Mass of John Paul the Great in such detail. Some of my secular Jewish friends wish to pin the Shoah on Pius XII. Naturally, I take great exception to this. The Nazis are to blame for the Holocaust and much of Europe did nothing to help save the Jews. The Judenrat wasn't exactly helpful either now, was it? But to point fingers at the non-murderers is to exonerate, to some degree, the murderers.

My closest Jewish friend, a playwright utterly in love with John Paul, was "afraid" that the Church would go "backwards" with respect to the Jews etc etc.

I told her no: once Catholics get it right, it stays right. Benedict XVI is proof of that.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16816866.post-1149174585291908442006-06-01T08:09:00.000-07:002006-06-01T08:09:00.000-07:00Very true, Parfit.I can't imagine how the Pope's m...Very true, Parfit.

I can't imagine how the Pope's message could be ignored and glossed over by the media the way that it has.Freedom Fighterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13649470110087808596noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16816866.post-1149155372944857132006-06-01T02:49:00.000-07:002006-06-01T02:49:00.000-07:00Let battle be joined. The flame of Freedom is not y...Let battle be joined.
The flame of Freedom is not yet extinguished.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
