Abbas threatening to cancel Palestinian elections..
Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas threatened to cancel the Palestinian parliamentary elections scheduled for January 25 if Israel blocks voting by Palestinians in East Jerusalem. East Jerusalem votes or election will be cancelled, vows Abbas - World
Arafat 2 made his remarks on -where else?-al-Jazeera TV.
Of course, according to the so-called `peace accords' between Israel and the Palestinians, any Palestinian political activity in Jerusalem is illegal. That was the basis used to shut down Orient House, which was being used as a campaign HQ for Fatah..as well as a terrorist depot.
The real story, of course is that Hamas is leading in the polls and Fatah is divided and squabbling among themselves.
Abbas told another whopper when he said that if East Jerusalem is not included "all the factions agree that there will be no elections."
Hamas and Islamic Jihad are pushing hard for the elections to take place, knowing their strength on the ground. The Fatah apparatchniks are afraid of losing those fat government jobs and funding if Hamas does as well as the polls indicate.
The Freedom Fighter predicts that the `elections' will take place, if nothing else than to keep that foreign donor money coming in. But the results will be predetermined by a sitdown between Hamas, Fatah, and the various other factions.
