Council Results for 5/17
Every week, the Watcher's Council nominate two posts each, one from the Council members and one from outside for consideration by the whole Council. The complete list of this week’s Council nominations is here.
1.Dr. Sanity: A TRULY UNHOLY ALLIANCE
In which the Doctor examines the alliance and alignment between Islamic fascists and the Angry Left, and uses the letter from Iran's Ahamadinejad to President Bush as an example. But don't dare question their patriotism!! People interested in an expanded examination of this should read David Horowitz's excellent book `Unholy Alliance' on this very subject. Good job, Dr.
2. J O S H U A P U N D I T: Daniel Wultz is coming home
This article has several levels. On the one hand, it's a eulogy for one of our fellow Americans who was murdered by Islamic terrorists in Israel. On another level, it is an unfortunately typical example of how the Main Stream Media handles this kind of story. And finally, it is, hopefully, a wakeup call to those who think that terrorism in Israel has nothing to do with us here in America. Z"l, Daniel.
3.Done With Mirrors: Public Virtue- Callimachus does an intersting analysis of the different political threads of republicanism that date from the founding of our republic, and contrasts the attention given to the idea of public virtue and public service then and now.
Callimachus actually touches on the reason for the difference in his last sentence when he says that in his opinion, the Founding Fathers would choose a reading of Plutarch's `Lives' as one of the best things Americans could do for their education. I concur, Callimachus..thing is though, the public schools have pretty much stopped providing any sort of moral education or instilling any notion of service to a higher purpose (which is what `Lives' was intended as) and now mostly teach self-esteem, victimhood, and secular humanism with no reference to any kind of moral code. That will have to change if we intend to keep our republic, IMO.
IT'S THE EDUCATION, STUPID! (uhhh, sorry New World Matt!)
4. The Education Wonks: War Orphan Tuition Waivers EdWonk examines several statewide programs that grant tuition waivers to war orphans. Damn good idea.
5. The Strata-Sphere:We Are Not At War!AJ takes on the latest in appeasement rhetoric by the Left.
6. What is it? I'm stupid : New World Man Matt's tired of the phrase `it's the ____ stupid!'
7. Gates of Vienna: May 15th: The Feast Day of Saint Dymphna Dymphna tells us the charming story of her Saint's Name Day. And offers a heartwarming prayer to Saint Dymphna that will put a smile on your face.
8. ShrinkWrapped: Conservative Fatigue SyndromeTrust The Shrinkster to go below the surface and get to the meat. Here he examines `Conservative Fatigue Syndrome', a name he gives to the feeling of being worn down and tired by defending difficult positions against the constant firebombs hurled by the Left and their fifth-column allies in the media.
He also examines the implications of this as applied to our national will in what some people still persist in calling the War On Terror...and the Shrinkster, myself and anyone astute enough to look at who we're fighting against persist in labelling correctly.Shades of 1939, indeed. Good post, Shrinks.
9. Rhymes With Right: Andrew Sullivan, HomosexualistGreg slaps Andrew Sullivan upside da head for comparing fundamentalist Christians with the Taliban...and, along with others in the main Stream Media. for peddling the term `Christianist'. Odd that the same people in the media willing say absolutely anything about Christians are so-ooo sensitive when it comes to anything negative about Islam...so much for courage in the fourth estate.
10. Right Wing Nut House : TAKE OFF THE 9/11 TINFOIL HATS Rick is sick and tired of the 9/11 `conspiracy' theories. Hey, it was the Evil Joooos..ask any Muslim.
11. The Glittering Eye: The popularity of the war in Iraq
Dave compares the popularity of the War in Iraq with that of the War in Vietnam.
12. The Sundries Shack: Newsweek Deceives, Right from the Beginning.Jimmie Bise takes on 'Newsweak's' shoddy, dishonest coverage of the NSA story.
