Key al Qaeda trial collapses in Yemen...sharia-licious
A major al Qaeda trial has collapsed in Yemen.....because the
judge said`Yemen's Islamic Sharia law permits jihad against occupiers'!
Hey, believe or not, I think the Qadi is being entirely truthful, logical and consistent. That is EXACTLY what the Qu'ran and sharia say.
According to the AP report, the trial of 19 al Qaeda members was supposed to show the US and the West how serious Yemen was in fighting Islamic terrorism. But the jihadis, accused of plotting to assassinate Westerners and blow up a hotel frequented by Americans, were all acquitted for lack of proof, the presiding judge ruled yesterday.
Prosecutors had failed to provide "adequate evidence that the defendants were plotting attacks against foreigners or planning to assassinate Americans in Yemen," the verdict said.
Several of the defendants admitted to having been in Iraq to fight U.S. troops there and had Iraqi stamps on their passports, "But this does not violate our law," the judge said.
"Islamic Sharia law permits jihad against occupiers," he said.
In back of this is Yemini politics, and the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh's bid to win the radical Islamic vote ahead of elections in September.
Saleh is an old ally of the jihadis. They sided with his government in the 1994 civil war and the successful battle against secessionists from the secular south.
Those who have been following the trial described it as a farce.
But again, why would we expect anything different? According to the jihadis, they are merely carrying out Allah's will..so what the hey?
Let's just take this as another blatant sign of what we're dealing with.
A commendation and a hi-five to Joshua's Army soldier Rosey for bringing this to our attention...
So there was no proof, and even if there was, Islamic law permits for killing infidels, which there was no proof of anyway...Did I get it straight...?
ReplyDeleteActually its against Yemeni law to "form an armed gang with the intent of attacks within Yemen." That charge carries a ten year sentence and its what the 19 were charged with.
ReplyDeleteGoing to fight the Americans in Iraq is not against Yemeni law as the judge noted.

Interesting perspective, Jane.
ReplyDeleteTwo things....
First, sharia law doesn't ONLY permit attacking non-Muslims who are occupiers, as we both know. Jihad is permitted whenever it can advance dar-Islam, even in the `occupiers' land...because sharia considers all of dar Harb to be rightfully Muslim land!
Second, it should be realized that for us Americans, attacking our soldiers no matter what the circumstances is usually considered an act of war.
If the Yemeni government is taking the stance that this is permitted and legal activity, then they are engaging in hostilities with the US and should be treated accordingly.
I do realize that Muslims see these matters differently..and Yemen will probably get away with this blatant disregard of law for now, given our present government and the situation there.
I tend to agree with you but Yemen provides *some* assistance in the WOT so the regime gets some latitude from the US admin. There's a clear pattern of regime appeasement of the extremsits. Yemen's propaganda that it is reforming has been shown to be all smoke and mirrors. But there's quite a few democracy advocates and authentic reformers. Naturally they are getting hammered by the govt. Jane
ReplyDeleteVery true.
