Richard Cohen soils himself
You know, if there's one thing Judeophobes absolutely love, it's a self-hating, attention craving smarmy Jew who can be relied on to provide cover for their malignant psychosis and racism.
And as always, one of them will leap at the chance to soil himself in public...so up to the plate steps the Washington Post's Richard Cohen with his latest nonsense, Hunker Down With History
Here are the highlights:
"The greatest mistake Israel could make at the moment is to forget that Israel itself is a mistake. It is an honest mistake, a well-intentioned mistake, a mistake for which no one is culpable, but the idea of creating a nation of European Jews in an area of Arab Muslims (and some Christians) has produced a century of warfare and terrorism of the sort we are seeing now."
Listen up and listen good, Richard. Jews have lived in Israel continuously for thousands of years. ISRAEL IS THEIR ANCESTRAL HOMELAND. They have every right to live there or anywhere else they choose to in peace and freedom. Who are you to call that a `mistake'? What gives you the right to make that judgement for other people? Your WAPO byline?
One of my friends in Jerusalem can trace her families' continuous residence there back to the 16th century and beyond. And she's by no means unique. Even the latest wave of `European immigrants', who started coming to Israel in the 1880's when it was a depopulated Ottoman wasteland were living there when the best part of your father's father was nothing but a stain on a mattress and you were not even a question mark.
How long has your family been living in America, Richard? Is that a mistake too?
And as for that bit about `European Jews'..been to Israel lately? A substantial part of the population are Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews or their descendents who's roots are in the Arab world and Iran. They came to Israel after being ethnically cleansed from the Arab world after 1948. What about the Jews who were born in Israel, the sabras? Are they just squatters? And what about the Ethiopian Jews? They European transplants, Richard? How about the Druze and the Arabs who live in Israel? Europeans? I know it just kills the Leftist script about `European colonialists displacing a native population' but the reality is that Israel is more of an exercise inthe diversity you and other self-described `progressives' love than any other country in the region.
And then there's that war and terrorism you speak of. Do you seriously think that if Israel never existed that 9/11 wouldn't have happened...that things would be just peachy between the jihadis and America? Are you really that ignorant? Or are you suddenly channeling bin-Laden?
Israel is just a front in the Global jihad, Richard...and the jihad would have started regardless of whether Israel existed or not. And it will continue whether Israel exists or not. Don't expect the Islamists to cut you or your leftist pals any slack or go away with their bloodlust sated just because you're willing to give them Israel.
"This is why the Israeli-Arab war, now transformed into the Israeli-Muslim war (Iran is not an Arab state), persists and widens. It is why the conflict mutates and festers. {....} The underlying, subterranean hatred of the Jewish state in the Islamic world just keeps bubbling to the surface. The leaders of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and some other Arab countries may condemn Hezbollah, but I doubt the proverbial man in their street shares that view.
There is no point in condemning Hezbollah. Zealots are not amenable to reason. And there's not much point, either, in condemning Hamas. {..} There is, though, a point in cautioning Israel to exercise restraint -- not for the sake of its enemies but for itself. Whatever happens, Israel must not use its military might to win back what it has already chosen to lose: the buffer zone in southern Lebanon and the Gaza Strip itself. {...} Much of the Islamic world...see Israel not as a mistake but as a crime. Until they change their view, the longest war of the 20th century will persist deep into the 21st. It is best for Israel to hunker down. "
I've got a shock for you, Richard. I know, to people of your ilk it's a convenient belief that if those nasty Jews in Israel magically disappeared your own putrid posterior would be safer..but it wouldn't. The hatred you speak of isn't for `the Jewish state', it's for Jews period, and is cultural and religious in origin. Read the Qu'ran and Hadiths sometime. You might also think about the fate of your late colleague, Daniel Pearl for some insight into that. Or look at how Muslims treated Jews living in their lands before Israel existed.
And what's that cute bit about `no point in condemning Hezbollah'and Hamas? By that logic, nobody should have had so much as a hissy fit over the Nazis..hey, they were just zealots too, weren't they?
And just why, in your opinion, should Israel `exercise restraint', hmmm? If, according to you, there's no point in reasoning or negotiating with Hamas and Hezbollah anyway as long as Israel exists, and they have all this widespread support from the `Arab street' , what does Israel have to gain by `restraint' or concesscios? The approbation of moral delinquents like you for being victims and not making too much noise about it?
People like you have always said that peace would magically erupt if Israel just gives up more land and makes more of the Middle East Judenrein, if they just give more concessions, if they just ignore the constatnt hatred and violence directed against them..in short if they just `hunker down' to use your phrase. Only now, as history proves what a lie that was, you change your story and say it will never work.
Israel is in Gaza and Lebanon for one reason - because they were attacked by sovereign governments as acts of war, both of them democratically elected. In your view,I guess Israel should just `hunker down' whatever that means, bury its dead, try not to offend those Muslims who want it destroyed and try not to cause too much inconvenience to good, self described `liberals' like yourself.
Lets try an experiment, shall we? Let's suppose your Jew hating neighbor came over and took a punch at you, or tried to burn your house down and there were no police to intervene or lawyers to run shrieking to. How good a victim would you be? How well would you `hunker down'? Would you say your right to live in your home was a `mistake'?
Somehow, I don't think so.
I love the smell of burning hypocrisy in the morning....
I have found Cohen to be an excellent columnist, even when I think he is wrong. But this column is a disgrace. Perhaps Richard, if you are reading this ( it is referenced in the Post online edition) it is time for you to do something about your alienation problem- I'll bet you didn't know you had one. And take Tony Judt with you. Spend a month on a kibbutz or taking classes at Hebrew University. Then perhaps we can talk about historic mistakes
ReplyDeleteHi Larry,
ReplyDeleteThanks for weighing in.
We can agree to disagree about Cohen's `general excellence'; this column was merely the posturing of a self-hating Jew looking for attention and kudos from his `anti-Zionist' pals on the Left.
As for him and his pal Tony Judt, I think Israel can do very well without their presence and I wouldn't want to inflict it on them. frankly, it'sd bad enough that we have to put up with it here.
I wonder if these two self-described `liberals' would have written back in the 1960's that Blacks in the Jim Crow South should `hunker down' and keep their place so as not to anger the segregationists..because the Reconstruction and the empowerment of Black voters was a `mistake'!
"Jews have lived in Israel continuously for thousands of years. ISRAEL IS THEIR ANCESTRAL HOMELAND. They have every right to live there or anywhere else they choose to in peace and freedom."
ReplyDeleteI'd love it if Iranian President Mr. A could read that too, so he could stop with his "Why are you punishing US for YOUR Holocaust?" shtick. Jews didn't decide to move to this region after the Holocaust as a way to make themselves feel better by frustrating the dreams of Arab and Islamic politicians. We've always been here. Well said.
