Memo to Olmert: Get a clue!

Some people never learn.

Today, Israeli PM Ehud Olmert outraged most of his fellow Israelis by declaring that that the war in Lebanon will create new momentum for further West Bank pullouts.

One would think that recent events in Gaza and on Israel's northern border would have convinced Olmert that his `disengagement' plan was a recipe for failure.

One of the classic definitions of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.

The religious community in Israel, many of who's homes are located in areas of Israel Olmert wants to cede to the Arabs make up a dispropotionate percentage of the combat IDF. Does Olmert think that they're stupid? Did he consider the effect on their morale? After his divisive and genuinely stupid remark, does he expect them to look gladly on the prospect of fighting and winning just so Olmert can disposses them of their homes and livelyhoods? Especially seeing how well that worked in Gaza?

Did he think about how his remarks would strenghthen Hamas and Hezbollah's ability to hang on for what they now must perceive as an eventual Israeli surrender..no matter how the war goes?

Olmert has recieved an amazing amount of support and concensus up to now, typical for the way Israelis pull together in a crisis. He now has the unique distinction of being the first Israeli prime minister in history to intentionally divide the nation while it's fighting for its life.

I can barely conceive of his unbelievable arrogance. Perhaps he got tired of sleeping on the couch.

At the very least, he owes his nation an apology.

The only thing Israel needs to `disengage' from is Olmert. With new elections as soon as the war is over.
