There hasn't been much to report on the Iran situation lately. The latest word is that Iran and European Union have postponed talks - again.
In other words, the stall continues. With principals like the EU's Javier Solana and the wily Ali Larijani, Iran's senior nuclear negotiator involved, we can look forward to continued non-results at best,or outright appeasement at worst.
The Bush Administration, notably Secretary of State Condi Rice still continue to delude themselves that the Security Council will keep its word and abide by the UN resolution calling for the discussion of sanctions if Iran had not complied by ending enrichment as of August 31st.
It should be obvious by now that the EU, the Russians and the Chinese have no intention of doing so.
President Bush made a speech on September 5th and said these words:
"Last October, Iran's President declared in a speech that some people ask -- in his words -- "whether a world without the United States and Zionism can be achieved I say that this goal is achievable." Less than three months ago, Iran's President declared to America and other Western powers: "open your eyes and see the fate of pharaoh if you do not abandon the path of falsehood your doomed destiny will be annihilation." Less than two months ago, he warned: "The anger of Muslims may reach an explosion point soon. If such a day comes [America and the West] should know that the waves of the blast will not remain within the boundaries of our region." He also delivered this message to the American people: "If you would like to have good relations with the Iranian nation in the future bow down before the greatness of the Iranian nation and surrender. If you don't accept [to do this], the Iranian nation will force you to surrender and bow down."
America will not bow down to tyrants.
The Iranian regime and its terrorist proxies have demonstrated their willingness to kill Americans -- and now the Iranian regime is pursuing nuclear weapons. The world is working together to prevent Iran's regime from acquiring the tools of mass murder. The international community has made a reasonable proposal to Iran's leaders, and given them the opportunity to set their nation on a better course. So far, Iran's leaders have rejected this offer. Their choice is increasingly isolating the great Iranian nation from the international community, and denying the Iranian people an opportunity for greater economic prosperity. It's time for Iran's leader to make a different choice. And we've made our choice. We'll continue to work closely with our allies to find a diplomatic solution. The world's free nations will not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon. {....}
I'm not going to allow this to happen -- and no future American President can allow it either."
The ball's in your court, Mr. President. Do the right thing.
this is my point about shrub.
ReplyDeletein 1802 the emir, or whatever he was called, of libya told the then president of the USA, that if the young nation wanted to do business in the mediterranean region, the young nation would be required to pay a stipend to the emir.
if not, war would be waged on the merchant vessels of the USA.
the emir only said this once.
the genteel gentleman from virgina residing in the white house at the time dispatched american marines to the region to blow the hell out of anything that was not flying the stars & stripes.
these marines were the last americans to give the order "borders away".
Mr. Jefferson must have been very absent minded, because he didn't tell the congress about his actions until the fleet was sufficiently far enough away to not be recalled.
my point is this has gone on far too long.
the coalition that is building is a group of tyrants.
this should have been over the week after we invaded iraq.
in WWII days everyone wanted the US to take action.
the coalition that is building will not want any action to be taken by anyone, knowing of course that the target is the USA.
this has gone on for far too long, and the longer it goes on the more credibility, deserved or not, the MSM will give the dumbass from teheran.
shrub is going down the path of his father. riding a crest of support in '90 only to ignore his duty and be turned out to pasture.
there is obviously some greek tragedy/mythology that i am missing.
end this.
now.
and get on with planning the elimination of boy assad and the saudi royal family.
Bush has been talking a good game for an awful long time now.
ReplyDeletePrediction...This stall will be allowed to continue until after midterm elections.
