Short takes, 12/01/06

Short takes is Freedom Fighter's way of cramming a lot into a small space..kind of like the young gentleman above. Here's a brief rundown of some of today's items of interest:

  • Charles Krauthammer in `This Is Realism? ' has officially jumped on FF's bandwagon, although you'll have to go to the last third of his column to see it. His solution for Iraq? Give Maliki an ultimatum: either come up with a political solution in two months or cede power to a new coalition that can, or the US will abandon the Green Zone, retire to its bases, redeploy to Kurdistan where we have real allies and let the civil war take its course.

I wouldn't even give him two months.

  • In Mark Steyn's Quartet of ladies shows where we're headed he paints a fascinating picture of a quartet of ladies - Palestinian suicide grandma Fatma An-Najar, the new Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, Katharine Jefferts Schori,Scarlett Johansson, and Secretary of State Condi Rice - who provide useful metaphors for how things are trending.

I don't totally buy Steyn's `demographics are destiny' argument, as you know..but he's not totally wrong and he does point out a disturbing trend. The chief place we disagree is that I feel things will come to a head much faster than the time needed for a demographic Muslim takeover...

  • In Coulter Gets Results!: Ann Coulter weighs in wonderfully on the six imams removed from that US Airways flight after spouting jihadi rhetoric in the terminal, spreading out in the front, middle and rear of the plane in classic jihadi hijacker fashion, acting suspiciously in the plane, and asking for seatbelt extensions they didn't need and putting them on the floor near their seats.

As Ann puts it: `What did we do to the Arabs? I believe Americans are the victims in that relationship. After the attacks of 9/11, profiling Muslims is more like profiling the Klan.'

  • While President Bush and Iraqi PM Maliki were mouthing platitudes in Amman, Iraq's president Talibani was in Teheran, talking withAhamdinejad and the mullahs and concluding a security agreement with Iran. No details yet on how that little scenario played out, but as I've said, I think we have a clue from today's events in Lebanon. As for Ahamadinejad he was all smiles: "I advise you to leave Iraq," he said, addressing the Americans. "Based on a timetable, transfer the responsibilities to Iraqi government. This will agree to your interests, too." And Iran's, of course.

I think you're right about disagreeing with Steyn-the islamists tend to overplay their hand and do things like 9/11, which open people's eyes to the monster that lurks in our society. Now, if they were smart, they would sow disinformation about Israel and the Palestinians, and play the victim game until we give into their demands, and until America became a de facto Islamic country due to muslims becoming the majority demographically. Keep in mind that most muslims in America, I believe, want to live in peace, but the jihadis also have strong support and they tend to dominate simply because they're more aggressive.

That being sad, don't underestimate the demographics. France is 10% Muslim, 50% Muslim among the youth, the Muslim populations are rapidly increasing in the other European countries, and it doesn't look like they're bound to stop any time soon. Basically, I think it's a race between the demographics and willingness among the indigenous population to stop the islamist thread, and in some places, the demographics are winning.

    hi nazar,
way to go having it both ways in that arguement with yourself.

this is what is going to happen more and more. never mind that the example this klein bozo gives as an example. he's living in a 9/10 world. the jooooos never flew any planes into any buildings circa 1939. this will happen repeatedly and expand until dhimmification is complete. and no one will do anything about it. this is where i disagree with yourself and ff. ff & GoV will keep posting on the internet. this will come to be referred to as the loonie fringe. but nothing will be done. if you think america has any fight left you are off in dream land. give us our PS3 and Xboxes we won't say a word. if you don't believe me just read ff latest posting regarding kofi annus. if anything should make america mad that would be it, but the silence is deafening. the 2008 prez elections will be the nail in this/our coffin.
the word you need to keep an eye out for is "lawfare". remember that word. that is what is coming. lawsuit after lawsuit after lawsuit, ad nauseum. what the jihadis will do is lawsuit us to our end. twisting and turning the words of our constitution to their means.
    lawfare.
    remember that word.

  3. I like that word Louie...good one!

Unlike you, I think there is plenty of fight left in America.

Bush allowed the country to go back to sleep, and his ridiculous policies have made people very wary of what needs to be done. But events will not permit this kind of vacation, any more than the Clinton years did.

What's more, I think 2008 will be a surprise to the more pessimistic among us. Wait and see.

One thing you might consider, even given a worst case scenario is the innately vicious nature of Hillary Clinton, in the unlikely event that she's elected and the country is attacked again.

    And it will be.
