The USS Stennis underway...
I certainly hope so.
The MSM has finally caught up with the news that our navy and special forces assisted Ethiopia in Somalia against the Iran-Hezbollah Islamic Courts jihadis. You, the members of Joshua's Army knew about it well in advance, of course.
This was one of the first proactive uses of US forces in alliance with an anti-Jihadi enemy that we've seen in some time.
The latest interesting development along these lines is news that the USS John C. Stennis strike group will join the USS Dwight Eisenhower aircraft carrier group and USS Boxer strike force and move into the Persian Gulf as a deterent and counterweight to Iran and Syria.
This is the second buildup of US naval, air and marine strength in the Gulf in four months. Deployment of the Stennis group puts a total of 16,000 US sailors including navy SEALS at the ready, added the marines in the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer as well as another nuclear carrier and 7 escort warships, 10 air squadrons, 2 submarines and helicopters to support amphibious landings.
It's seems to me in light of this that President George W. Bush has rejected the Baker-Hamilton Iraq Study Group’s recommendation to negotiate/bribe Iran and Syria in exchange for their help with a US exit from Iraq. Maybe its just that he feels he has nothing left to lose, but it looks as if President Bush may actually have decided that the Iraq war is winnable that confronting Iran is the key to victory.
Better late than never, hmmm?
Another sign of this was the report that the commander of US forces in Iraq Gen. John Casey was on his way out. Casey has been described as `the perfect military intellectual' and according to the January 2nd 2007 New York Times, he was being relieved because he is seen as favoring a policy of withdrawal for US forces over victory.
Stay tuned....
