After the UN passed those toothless `sanctions' on Iran, the US announced that it would lobby the EU, China, Japan and other nations to adopt more stringent restrictions in dealing with Iran.
Guess who is trying to undercut us but our old pals, the Russians!
Not content with neutering the UN sanctions, Russia is now trying to lobby against the US attempting to get friendly nations to adopt more effective deterents against Iran's nukes. Russia’s U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said today that any unilateral sanctions against Iran are `ineffective', and urged a collective approach.
"It is our very strong belief that as long as we act collectively, we'd better stay this way. If, in addition and outside of those collective measures, we start doing various unilateral things, we don't think that is going to be helpful," Churkin told reporters.
Meanwhile, the mullahs are doing their own lobbying. Iran's chief negotiator on its nuclear program, Ali Larijani, along with a high-ranking delegation, is headed for China to confer with the Chinese President Hu Jintao and deliver a message from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to him.
Sounds like oil for missiles to me, brokered through the Russians.
Its about time that the US moved in and took the oil, which would still be in the ground without US technology in the first place.
