The Case of the Missing General - update

The case of the Iranian missing General has taken on a new dimension. Apparently, General Asqari was a defector spied on Iran since 2003, when he was recruited on an overseas business trip.

General Ali Reza Asgari, who was Iran's the former deputy defence minister, is undergoing debriefing at a NATO base in Germany after escaping via Damascus after it became clear that his cover was about to be blown. Iran’s notorious secret service, the Vavak, suspected that he was a high-level mole.

Asgari is reported to have brought documents with him proving Iran’s links to terrorists in the Middle East.

Interestingly enough, the Iranians are probably right that Israel's Mossad was involved. According to Israeli paper Yedioth Aharonot, the Mossad orchestrated Asqari's escape and defection through the Mossad station in Istanbul.

They were probably running him as an agent as well, perhaps through a `false flag' operation in which Asqari thought he was working for somebody else but was actually working for Israel...who, as usual, was likely running this particular operation with the knowledge and cooperation of our CIA.

Needless to say, Asgari’s escape has set off major alarm bells in the Iranian regime. “Asgari is a gold mine for western intelligence,” said an Israeli defence source. “We have been following him for years, especially since the late 1980s when he was commander of the Revolutionary Guard in Lebanon.”
