How sharia works - Saudi kidnap and rape victim sentenced to 90 lashes

Some of you who took Weekend Monkey's `You're the Qadi!' quiz might have been skeptical about how accurate the answers were, even though these were actual cases tried by real Qadis (Islamic judges in sharia courts) and the Qu'rannic sources were given.

Here's yet another example of how sharia works.

We have here a case in Saudi Arabia where a 19-year-old Saudi woman who was kidnapped, beaten and gang raped by seven men. They then took nude photos of her with cell phone cameras and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

She was lured into this situation by one of the men who blackmailed her into meeting with him by threatening to tell her family they were having a relationship outside wedlock, which is illegal in Saudi Arabia...unless you're a rich sheik cavorting with one of your Filipina maids.

Five of the rapists were eventually arrested when the victim was hospitalized for her injuries and given jail terms ranging from 10 months to five years even though the government prosecutor had asked for the death penalty....because the Saudi justice ministry intervened and said rape could not be proved because there were no witnesses and the men had recanted confessions they made during `questioning'.

After that, the Qadis, basing their decision on sharia, decided to sentence the woman and her original blackmailer for being alone together in his car.

Her sentence? 90 lashes for the "crime" of being alone with a man not related to her.

Believe it or not.
