Watcher's Council Nominations, 05/09/07

Every week, the Watcher's Council members nominate two posts each, one from the Council members and one from outside for consideration by the whole Council. The complete list of this week's Council nominations can be found at the site of our fearless leader, Watcher of Weasels

OK, here's this week's Council lineup:

1. J O S H U A P U N D I T: Zawahiri posts an important new video - and reveals al-Qaeda's jihad strategy This week, I focused on an important item that wooshed by with fairly little notice by the media - Shayk Ayman Zawahiri's latest video, which I found contained vitally important information on the future directions of the jihad against the West.

While the few stories on this in the media made their headlines on Zawahiri's call for 300,000 US dead in Iraq, that was a minor part of his remarks which offer a superb glimpse of both the people and more importantly the mindset and the strategy we're facing. This is a serious message to the West, and I analyzed it here.

2. Done With Mirrors: After Iraq: Kurdish Option Callimachus again writes on Iraq this week, and seems to have come over to my long expressed point of view , that we should redeploy our troops and bases into Kurdistan, ally with them and help them establish a strong and independent Kurdish state.

Pity we didn't do it half a trillion dollars and 3,000 lives ago....but it didn't sit well with our president's Saudi pals, so...

3. Soccer Dad: The quietest hero A moving post by Soccer Dad on the heroism of British diplomat and spy Frank Foley, who unlike others in both his government and ours saw what was happening to the Jews in Germany and decided to do something about it.

Proof again that we all have a choice on how to confront evil, especially when it doesn't appear to threaten us directly, but the `other'.

4. The Glittering Eye: Have You Had Your Melamine Today? This week, The Glittering Eye's Dave Schuler continues writing on an important issue who's ultimate implications have pretty much been overlooked by most of us..the problem of food products and additives from China.

This first surfaced in the pet food recall, which Dave covered extensively, but can be extended to a whole range of products, including those for human consumption.

While I'm at it - Dave, my friend, sincere condolences on your loss. I've been there and know exactly how you feel.

5. Right Wing Nut House:SUFFERING BY COMPARISON This week, Rick writes about the Republican debates, and bemoans what he calls the `lack of political talent' in the GOP.

I don't quite agree with him, as I think there are at least three Republican candidates capable of doing a fine job as president, given what we are likely facing in the next four years. It's important to look at it in that context, rather than on individual issues..and I think, ultimately, the American electorate will.

6. Rhymes With Right - The Fort Dix Six Greg writes this week about the story of the moment, six Muslim terrorists arrested while plotting to attack our troops at Fort Dix. To me, the important parts of the story were that three of them were illegal aliens and that they were home grown jihadis, radicalized here in America.

7. The Colossus of Rhodey: Not only is she a babe ... Hube likes the anti-commie attitude of Cuban born singer-actress Maria Conchita Alonso.

8. I know what you're against, but what are you for? : Bookworm Room Ms. Bookworm writes about atheism and its implications. As she puts it,she doesn't believe in G-d but doesn't believe in atheism either, because it leads to statist totalitarianism.

For me personally, to put it another way, I have much more trust in G-d than I do in mankind. And I think it's highly important not to put the onus on G-d for the acts of men, who have free will.

9. Eternity Road; Authenticity, the West and Islam Francis reflects on the nature of Islam, and concludes that it is incompatible with Western freedom.

To a certain extent he's correct, but he also misses one major, important point.

There are a great many Muslims who are not jihad minded, who are decent, good people and who in fact moved to America to get away from that mindset. And they are being silenced...which is what the PBS story he mentions is really about.

It is politically correct elements on the Left here in America and politicians like our last two presidents who have allowed jihad to be promulgated here. And it's they, not most of America's Muslima who have allowed a wholesale takeover of mosques and madrassahs here in America by the Saudis, the funding of what amount to political pressure groups by the Saudis here in the US and the radicalization of Muslims here in America by those mosques and madrassahs.

10. Cheat Seeking Missiles: "The Greatest Scientific Scandal Of Our Time" Laer focuses this week on the remarks of scientist Zbigniew Jaworowski, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc. published in the March 2007 journal EIR Science...who has some fairly acid things to say about the global warming controversy.

11. Big Lizards: “Does America Elect Defeatists?” Dafydd Ab Hugh examines this question and feels we do not...and thus predicts a Republican victory in `08.

12. The Education Wonks: Taking God Out Of One Public School Classroom EdWonk examines the effects of taking G-d out of the classroom, and a pending court case on the matter.

That's this week's lineup..enjoy!
