Update On The SouthCarolina Bombers
Well, it appears that the two `non-citizens of Middle Eastern descent' apprehended over the weekend for carrying suspicious materials near the Goose Creek Naval facility were carrying more than just left over `fireworks', as their defender at CAIR alleged. I figured that one out after local law enforcement revealed that there had been a `controlled demolition of materials' August 4th, the night these two were arrested.
Youseff Megahed, 21, and Ahmed Mohamed, 24, have now been charged with possession of an incendiary device after pipe bombs and other materials were found in the trunk of their car, a felony offense. Mohamed's bond was set at $500,000 while Megahed’s was set at $300,000. Obviously, both are significant flight risks.
Apparently Megahed is a permanent legal resident of the US originally from Egypt. While he's described as a full-time student, he's been enrolled at the University of South Florida (The old stomping grounds of Sami El Arian, Islamic Jihad's man in the US)since 2004 without declaring a major and is registered for a paltry three hours of classes for the fall 2007 term.
Mohamed is a civil engineering grad student at USF from Kuwait and has been enrolled there since January of this year...with his legal status in the US `undetermined'. Anyone want to bet he's overstayed his visa?
The FBI has since backtracked on it's earlier claim that there was no link to terrorism. According to FBI spokesman Richard Kolko,a terrorism task force is now `reviewing the evidence.'
“At this point, it is too early in the investigation to say there is any link to terrorism,” Kolko said.
Goose Creek, South Carolina is home to the Naval Weapons Station, which houses the U.S. Naval Consolidated Brig, a military prison where enemy combatants have been held.
