More on the Israel/Syria Air Incident..Did the IDF Take Out Nuclear Material?
Apparently there was more to the Israeli incursion into Syria than just a recon on the Syrian missile buildup and a successful test of new jamming equiment on the vaunted Pantsyr 1E missile defense system the Russiasns supplied Syria and Iran with that I reported on the other day.
It seems the IDF also took out a large cargo of Iranian arms en route to Hezbollah..... and perhaps something even more deadly, as we'll see
According to CNN, the military operation may have also involved IDF ground forces who directed the airstrike which "left a big hole in the desert" in Syria.
CNN claims that sources in the U.S. government and military confirmed to CNN's Barbara Starr that the airstrike did happen, and that they are happy to have Israel show both Syria and Iran that they can get in and out and strike when necessary.
Israel, of course, is keeping mum on what was hit but is apparently also quite pleased with the results of the mission.
Now, a word about that `big hole in the desert'.
While some of my sources are claiming that the Israelis took out a major chemical weapons site, Carl in Jerusalem at Israel Matsav has a very plausible theory that the weapons Israel hit also may have included nuclear material sold to Syria by the North Koreans.
Apparently Israel has had the belief for some time that North Korea is in the process of selling the small amount of nuclear material they have left to Iran and Syria, and the Israelis had been carrying out recon flights over Syria to find out.
There's a precedence for this. As members of Joshua's Army know, North Korea has shipped missile hardware many times to Iran with the aid of Russia...who likely collects a handsome `commission' on the sales for allowing North Korea to ship its merchandise through Russia's territory, the only way it can get there.
As a matter of fact, Iran and Syria might even have been planning to provide some of this nuclear material,or perhaps bio-chemiocal weapons for use in Hezbollah's warheads. I wouldn't put it past them for a second.
This could account for the `hole in the desert' as well as explaining why neither Syria or Israel would want to disclose any details on what was hit...the Syrians because they wouldn't want to admit what they had, and Israel because they wouldn't want to promote a panic in the country..especially since it might endanger the `November surrender' to the Palestinians that Olmert has scheduled.
As Carl also notes, North Korea has strongly condemned the Israeli strike - probably because they're angry that Syria is now probably refusing to pay them for the destroyed material.
Whatever the IDF took out in Syria, it must have been heavy and a major threat..nothing less would have prodded Ehud Olmert into actually defending Israel.
Great stuff FF.
ReplyDeleteNow if Syria has Saddams WMD's, this could get dicey.....not that it isn't already.
I linked 'yer post brother.
Joe is right, however, I don;t think it is a matter of "if" Syria has Saddam'w WMD. I think it is highly unlikely that Syria does not have Saddam's WMD. There were large conveys of trucks that went into Syria that have never been accounted for. There is an interesting story here, if the media would follow it, however, they are to busy bashing Bush and Republicans to worry about things like national security.
ReplyDeleteNone of what I have writeen is meant to imply that I like Bush or Republicans. Frankly this president should have been impeached long ago.
Gracias Senor Gringo!
ReplyDeleteMy regards to the Queen of Tequilla...
Hi Poster,
Thanks for weighing in.
Please tell me exactly what legal grounds exist to impeach President Bush.
Remember, its high crimes and misdemeanors, like perjury and obstruction of justice. I incompetantcy, errors, or policies you might disagree with are NOT grounds for impeachment.
Regards,
ff
