Yes, you read that right -the current occupant of the White House wants to give $1.4 billion of our tax dollars as a national security/'stimulus package'...for Mexico!
It's called the Merida Initiative, it's hidden away in the 2008 Supplemental Budget an dthe Bush Administration has been working on it in secret with Mexican Presidente Calderon for over a year.
The idea, apparently is that Mexico needs help keeping out illegal aliens from its southern border with Central America..war on the drug cartels and that sort of thing. Michelle Malkin has the story:
"We can’t finish our own border fence, properly supply our immigration agents and border patrol with all the equipment and resources they need, or get our house in order. Yet, the Bush administration wants to fork over $1.4 billion to Mexico and Central America–with much of it going into the hands of corrupt law enforcement officials and government bureaucrats who have worked tirelessly to undermine our immigration laws. The funding is tucked into the 2008 supplemental budget.
Naturally, the State Department has taken a lead role. They’ve held meetings in secret and cut out members of Congress from discussion. You’ll love the explanation for the secrecy: Mexico is “sensitive,” you see. Also, according to one expert, “Mexico is very protective of its sovereignty and very worried about any incursion of U.S. security forces or private contractors—like Blackwater—coming in to train Mexicans.” Yeah, they’re worried about incursions and sovereignty."
This is amazing, especially as Mexico already receives about $50 billion a year in 'economic stimulus' from the US siphoned out of our economy in the form of repatriations from expatriate Mexicans, legal and otherwise, which is Mexico's second largest source of revenue after oil, believe it or not.
The idea of throwing $1.4 billion at the same corrupt forces that are in cahoots with the drug lords to a large extent while we haven't yet put our own border in order as far as illegal aliens go is ludicrous.
It's exactly this sort of hypocrisy and contempt for the wishes of his fellow citizens that is really behind the loathing most Americans feel for the current occupant of the White House. He brought it on himself and unfortunately, it is entirely justified.
There's still time, Mr. President. Step into the light.
before i found J/P, i proposed the US buying mexico would solve the current problems. with the crooks currently occupying the US congress (yess FF i am aware that calling all 535 members of congress crooks is not fair to the 1 or 2 that are not crooks, but i'm feeling indiscriminate and insensitive ) they could find a way to present it to the american people as a zero sum action.
ReplyDeletebesides:
the fence would be shorter.
tequila would be cheaper.
all those border patrol cops could be turned loose on the druggies.
we wouldn't need passports to go to playa de cama.
we're paying for their health care as it is, if they're citizens, it would be easier to track them down and make them pay their share.
now i'm sure that there are reasons to rain on my parade, but i think it is worth considering.
it could be the louisiana purchase of the 21st century. it could be bush's folly.....oh, wait, it already is.........
