Watcher's Council Nominations, 04/01/08

Every week, the Watcher's Council members nominate two posts each, one from the Council members and one from outside for consideration by the whole Council. The complete list of this week's Council nominations can be found at the site of our fearless leader, the infamous Watcher of Weasels

Do take the time and check out the non-Council links..they are always rewarding.

Council News
: This week marks the debut of an exciting new addition to the Watcher's Council, Hillbilly White Trash .Be sure and check him out.

Here's this week's lineup...enjoy!

  1. Black Liberation Theology
Joshuapundit - Since the dinosaur media was finally forced to acknowledge the issue of Jeremiah Wright and the UCC Trinity Church, the phrase `black liberation theology' has surfaced. But what exactly is meant by the phrase 'black liberation theology'? Where did it come from? And what does it reveal about who Barack Obama is?

  2. Or Not
Done With Mirrors - This week, Callimachus postulates that every war consists of two struggles, the battlefield and the home front, and uses the spinning of various Iraq war pundits of the recent successful offensive against the Mahdi Army as a prime example.

I believe you know my views on this subject. The infamous Tet offensive and the media coverage surrounding it comes to mind.

  3. CD22 Runoff -- Shelly Sekula Gibbs Vs. Pete Olson
Rhymes With Right - Greg looks at the GOP primary this week and reflects on the nature of carpetbagger politics.

  4. Interpreting the Events In Basra
The Glittering Eye - Dave Schuler also writes this week about the Iraqi offensive against Moqtada al-Sadr and the Mahdi Army and sees it as part of a dangerous civil war.

  5. The Repeated Historical Falsehood -The Colossus of Rhodey - Hube examines the return of Jeremiah Wright to the Trinity Pulpit and permanent victim status.

  6. The Messiah-Shtick - Bookworm Room - Ms. Bookworm has an interesting take on Obama and what Mao and the boys would have called 'the cult of personality',and notes the similarity to the behavior of the Obama-ites to the crowds at Nazi and communist rallies.

  7. Sticks and Stones- Soccer Dad - Soccer Dad notes that the New York Times has finally noted that the Palestinians routinely insult Jews - or more accurately, as Soccer Dad notes, promote the most hideous and racist incitement to murder in their schools, media and mosques.

It doesn't stop with Jews or Israel either, but that's another topic.

  8. Another UN Obscenity (Updated) Wolf Howling - As GW writes, the UN Human Rights Council is nothing more than "a mouthpiece for Wahhabi Islamists who seek to use the freedoms of the West to destroy it," as he focuses on a recent resolution criminalizing any criticism of radical Islam as a human rights violation.

Of course, a UN committee supposedly dealing with human rights that has countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran and Libya as prominent members is a contradiction in terms anyway.

  9. 'Tis The Season For Parents and Kids To Be Scammed The Education Wonks - EdWonks is speaking here about something known in the trade as 'puff sheets' - phony who's who books, national honor rolls and annuals geared towards separating gullible parents from the green stuff in their wallets.

  10. Answering Yasmine Cheat Seeking Missiles - This week,Laer writes about his dialogue with a recent (and unfortunately none-too-bright) Muslim revert...a fine example of comparative theology.

( a note: Islam refers to those who recite the shehada and submit to it as 'reverts' rather than converts, since to Islam we are all born Muslims, even Moses and Jesus and thus return or 'revert' to the true faith from being kuffars, non-believers. It is the mission of Islam to return us all to Islamic rule by any means necessary - dawa, or persuasion, taqiya, or dissembling and jihad, or holy war and conquest are the most common tools.)

  11. Can We Just Walk Away From Iraq? Right Wing Nut House - Rick likewise examines the situation in Iraq in view of the Basra situation. Like Dave in the Glittering Eye,he finds it worrisome.

  12. The Moral Blindness of the Left Hillbilly White Trash - In his debut piece as a Council member, Lemuel Calhoon has a fine screed on lying politicians, with particular emphasis on Mrs. Clinton.
