WM: What up, FF
FF: MSNBC just called Pennsylvania for Obama..with zero per cent of the precints reporting.. CNN just jumped on th ebandwagon with 1% of the precints reporting and only 25,000 votes cast.
WM: Sounds like wishful thinking to me.
FF: Yeah..McCain is currently ahead in Indiana and Virginia, behind in Florida and North Carolina.
WM: If Obama takes Florida, it's over.
<6:00 PM>
WM: Hey FF, I got some stuff on the senate races
FF: Fure away, Monkey
WM: Lindsey Graham held his seat for the GOP in South Carolina, no surprise. They're projecting GOP senators Mitch McConnel(KY) and Susan Collins (ME) as winning as well.
For thed Donkeys, three pickups so far, Shaheen in New Hampshire, Warner in Virginia, and Hagen in North Carolina.
FF: That last doesn't look good for McCain...
<6:22 PST>
FF: Monkey, some of these numbers seem weird to me. They're projecting Wisconsin and Michigan for Obama, but both places have only one per cent of the precincts reporting..and Mccain is ahead in both states.
WM: Are we still dealing with exit polls or actual numbers?
FF: Exit polls...and in PA there's no hard numbers yet to warrant a call, as far as I'm concerned. Remember Florida last time? I just got some numbers for Ohio, McCain is 19 points behind Obama with 6% of the vote counted.
<6:48PM PST>
Obama is projected as having won both Ohio and PA. Florida and North Carolina are too close to call. McCain is ahead in Indiana and Virginia.Tight races still in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan
<8:20 PM PST>
MSNBC has already projected Obama the winner, giving Florida and Virginia to Obama. So has CNN, although they show Florida up for grabs. FOX too. Unfortunately, it looks like Fat Jack Murtha won as well..pity.
Monkey, pour me another drink.
monkey boy sounds amazingly coherent.
ReplyDeletewhats it been?
two hours now.
amazing.
if this continues as some media outlets predict.
ReplyDeletethe puma thing was a farce and someone who will be just as big a loser as jmac will be hillary.
what is amazing to me is pennsylvania. the margin. i don't think hussein carried it in the primaries.
ReplyDeletelooks like all of hillary's followers were good little socialists tonight.
the best she can hope for now is madam justice.
While I clearly did not want Obama to win, I suspected this was going to happen. The bottom line he is going to be our President. I pray he succeeds. If he fails, Aemrica fails. I do not want America to fail. Just because he is going to be our President does NOT mean we should not criticize him when he embarks on bad poliies. Actually I suspect we will be criticizing him allot over the next few years.
ReplyDeleteThere may be some silver linings in a vary dark cloud. America's world wide image seems to have been severly harmed over the last few years. Obama seems to have been clearly favored by most of the world including traditional allies. If we are going to hold the line against a resurgent Russia, China, and Islamic terrorists, we MUST have the support of traditional allies. So far tthis has been severly lacking. McCain may have been viewed the same way as Bush was viewed and may have been as ineffective as Bush was in getting them to help us. As such, perhaps Obama may be better able to enroll the Europeans and others to assist us.
Hi Poster,
ReplyDeleteI must point out that Obama has been the head of a senate subcommittee with the direct responsibility of persuading the Europeans to send more combat troops to Afghanistan as part of the NATO mission. He's never convened it even once.
As a matter of fact, because of the Canadians and the Danes threatening to pull out unless countries like Germany sent combat troops to Afghanistan to bear their share of the load, the Europeans were starting to com earound to the idea..until Obama started making speeches about pulling US troops out of Iraq and sending them to Afghanistan, after which the Euros decided to wait and let the Americans do it.
Frankly, I doubt our traditional allies in Western Europe are going to be much use against Russia, seeing as how the Russians routinely blackmail them with energy and they have their own problems with their growing Muslim populations.
OTOH, I wouldn't be surprised to see th eUS distance itself from another traditional ally, Israel...especially if Netanyahu and Likud get elected and refuse to knuckle under to the White House and give up the West Bank and half of Jerusalem to the Arabs.
We'll have to see...

b.poster,
ReplyDeleteJust because he is going to be our President does NOT mean we should not criticize him when he embarks on bad poliies. Actually I suspect we will be criticizing him allot over the next few years.
let me explain why i disagree with those statements.
first, husseins best friend is a domestic terrorist, his spiritual mentor/pastor is a racist, and his financial backers (rezko) are crooks. what did any of that matter? huh? did it?
second, once husseins nat'l security force is put into place, if you do criticize hussein you will be arrested or we won't hear from you again.
Freedom Fighter,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reply to my post. You are right of course about Obama never convening the committe to attempt to persuade Europeans to send more troops to Afghanistan. With my silver linings idea I was really just grasping at straws. What the Canadians, the Danes, and others need to understand is the enemy being fought in Afghanistan is an existential threat to the the entire free world. The Taliban and their allies are as great a threat as Nazi Germany every was. In fact, they are probably a much greater threat. A loss in Afghanistan would not be just a defeat for America. It would be a defeat for the entire free world. It is unlikely that Aemrica or Western Europe would be able to survive a defeat in Afghanistan. The enemy would finish off America first and then it would go after the rest of the free world. The Canadians, the Danes, and others should recognize this and do their part to prevent this from happening regardless of what Germany or others do.
As for how Germany and Western Europe can handle Russia, I think Germany has massive coal reserves. They could develop these and utilize coal to oil technologies. In time, they could lessen their dependence on Russian oil and this would put them in a better position to stand up to Russia. If they won't do this, I suppose we will have to get used to a new Soviet Union, at least a de facto one. In this case, it would seem we fought the Cold War for nothing.
I agree that the US and Israel may distance themselves from one another. If Lukid and Netanyahu win, Israeli policy will be less in line with that of what I would expect Aemrica's to be under President Obama. Israel can easily handle any "American pressure." The country they need to worry about, at least in the near term, is Russia. Israel gets about 80% of its oil from Russia. Russia actively supports most of Israel's enemies and Russia is a major player in the so called Middle East peace process.
Israel's dependence on Russian oil gives Russia tremendous leverage over Israel's economy. This is leverage Aemrica could not even come close to matching. Aemrica's only leverage is foreign aid, which Israel does not really need. Cutting this off would hurt Aemrica more than it would Israel. Also, America has no viable military option that could be used against Israel even if President Obama were stupid enough to try it.
In summary, Russia has tremendous leverage over Israel. America has much less than Russia does. Israel can easily handle American pressure. With that said should the Israeli government choose to divide Jerusalem, give up the West Bank, and the Golan Heights this would likely be VERY unpopular with the Israeli people. In order to make it more palatable, they may invoke the "american pressure" excuse.
Perhaps the reason Obama never convened the subcommittee is because of President Bush. As you know, Bush is absolutely despised among our traditional allies. I think it is debateable as to why this is so. It probably has allot to do with the relentless vilification of Presient Bush that has taken place within the media. Certainly Bush's performance even without the media vilification has much to do with the situation.
ReplyDeleteNevertheless this is the situation. Bush is hated. NOBODY wants to be seen as doing any thing that might be seen to be helping him. As long as Bush is in office, getting any help may be next to impossible. Really one of three things can be done with regards to Afghanistan. 1.)NATO countries can contribute combat forces. If every NATO member committed troops, they would each need to commit about 20,000 troops to get the force level to what the commanders say they need. 2.) America can implement a draft and use this to get the forces the commanders say they need for Afghanistan. 3.) Troops can be withdrawn from Iraq. If this is done, we will need some kind of assurance from the Iraqis that the country will not be used as a base for terrorists to attack America or its interests. The Iraqis are already skittish. They are afraid to sign any kind of agreement with us because they see us itching to leave and they are afraid we would fail to honor any agreement then they are left holding the bag and facing Iran and Syria. Its probably not going to be realistic to withdraw significant troops from Iraq for another year or so.
I think option 1 is the optimal solution, however, option 2 is certainly acceptable. If our allies won't help us, then we have to go it alone. What is clear is we CANNOY lose in Afghanistan. It is unlikely that America would be able to survive a defeat of that magnitude.
Nobody trusts President Bush right now. Even if he called for a draft, he would have virtually no chance of getting it implemented. President Obama may be in a better position to enroll the American people in the effort. If this is the President's call, I'll support him.
I hope and pray President Obama succeeds. It seems unlikely that Aemrica cannot afford another failed presidency. While I will support him, I will not hesitate to criticize those policies which are wrong headed. If he insists on wrong headed policies, then he will be vehemently opposed.
I fully expect to be opposing President Obama allot. I pray he proves me wrong.
Far left policies have never been successful any where they have been tried. America has been flirting with the far left for some time. The Aemrican people have finally decided to give the far left complete control over the Government. I don't expect the far-left Democrat Congressional majorities to hold after the 2010 elections. I don't think their policies will solve the country's problems and will likely make them worse. The voting public will likely end their love affair with the far left and vote them out of office in masse.
If there is another silver lining here, this will be a great opportunity for a third party to arise. This can be a party that will be true to the vision of great me like Ronald Reagan and our founding fathers. The voters will likely be fed up with all things Democratic but I don't see them being very willing to turn over the reigns to the Republicans either. This will likely be a golden opportunity for a third party. If we are prepared, we can capitalize on the opportunity.

ReplyDeleteI can't say I disagree about Obama's association with unrepentant terrorists, racists, and crooks. This makes me uncomfortable and it makes much of the electorate uncomfortable. It appears that at most Obama is only going to get 55% of the vote and probably less As I've pointed out here and elsewhere many times, given the poor performance of Republicans in general and Bush in particular Obama should have gotten at least 65% of the vote and probably as much as 75% of the vote.
Frankly, while I pray I'm wrong, I fully expect Obama's policies to fail miserably. The Democrat majorities in the House and Senate will likely be over after the next election cycle, given how badly their policies are likely to fail. When this happens the media will be less able to defend Obama and they will likely be much less willing. This will meke it much eaiser to publish the details of Obama's criminal associations. I think it is highly probable that Mr. Obama will be impeached when the new House and Senate leadership take office in 2011. It may happen as early as 2010. the Demcorats may initiate impeachment in an attempt to save their electoral hides.
Now, if Obama should start attempting to arrest people who criticize him, his tenure will be even shorter than I thought it would be. Such a move would not end well for him or his party.
My impression of Obama is he is very arrogantnot as arrogant as Vladimir Putin or Mahmoud Amadinejad but very arrogant nonetheless. Arrogant people make stupid mistakes. Arresting people who criticize him would very stupid indeed. If he is that crazy, the country will be rid of him very soon. Arresting people who disagree with him would be political suicide.
FF,
You write "....and they have their own problems with their growing Muslim populations." This is quite true. Their countries are slowly but surely be taking over by Islamic terrorists and their supporters. Also, Russia has almost reestablished a de facto Soviet Union. They are within a milimeter or so of accomplishing that. Iran is about to have nuclear war weapons capable of hitting all of Europe. While this has been happening, the Europeans have been engaged in an unhealthy anti-Aemrican obssession. While they have been engaged in this unhealthy anti-American obsession, they forgot about the real threats to their economies and their national security.
