In the aftermath of the McCain defeat, some of his operatives have apparently decided that a convenient target to pin the blame on is Governor Sarah Palin. So they've been yakking it up with the dinosaur media ( most notably the New York Times, Newsweek and Fox news commentator Carl Cameron. They are spreading stories on background about how difficult Sarah Palin was, how stupid she was, what a 'diva' she was....and naturally, the Left is eating it up.
This sort of obscene collaboration with the Left in an effort to find a convenient scapegoat for the campaign's own failures is despicable, and would not be happening if Palin was part of the Old Boy's network.
AccordinglyRed State has a project entitled 'Operation Leper' designed to target these folks.
RedState is pleased to announce it is engaging in a special project: Operation Leper.
We're tracking down all the people from the McCain campaign now whispering smears against Governor Palin to Carl Cameron and others. Michelle Malkin has the details.
We intend to constantly remind the base about these people, monitor who they are working for, and, when 2012 rolls around, see which candidates hire them. Naturally then, you'll see us go to war against those candidates.
It is our expressed intention to make these few people political lepers.
Their initial list includes Mark McKinnon, Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace, ex of CBS.
Even if Governor Palin were an idiot - and she's not, as anyone who's met her will testify - the same people flapping their lips were the ones who were in charge of vetting her..so what does that say about how smart they were, if what they're saying had any truth to it?
Sarah Palin is the most exciting and natural conservative politician to appear since Ronald Reagan. She was like a jolt of electricity to an otherwise moribund McCain campaign and perhaps the only thing he did right. She inspired the ticket, raised scads of money and brought crowds of people out to the rallies in a way McCain was utterly incapable of without her, one reason they frequently did joint appearances.
Without her, McCain would have been lucky to break 40% of the vote.
Through everything that was thrown at her, she maintained her energy and optimism, no matter what kind of garbage was thrown at her and her family by the media and the elites from both parties.
To smear her anonymously at this point is disgraceful, and it's disappointing that McCain doesn't see fit to put a stop to it.But perhaps it's his way of once again disassociating himself from the GOP's conservative base and becoming a media darling again.
Sarah Palin will no doubt rise above this, just as she's risen above everything else, and I have no doubt we'll see her again in the national arena. That's more than I can say for the gutless hacks attempting to destroy her.
ADDENDUM: Melinda Henneberger over at Slate sends this garbage up beautifully:
Sounds like those McCain aides are fast-tracking their guy's return to pariah—I mean, maverick—status by alienating every last conservative who voted for him with their mean, sexist, and derriere-covering hooey about Sarah Palin. I'm sorry, but I do not for one second believe that she did not know Africa was a continent. If she threw those poor foot soldiers for democracy into a panic by appearing at her hotel-room door "essentially ... wrapped in a bathrobe''—grow up, people; it's not the first time a candidate has finished dressing on the run. And from what I saw of the crack McCain-Palin organization, somebody needed to engage in the dreaded "throwing of paperwork and things of that nature.'' I see this as the jump-start of her rehab with women voters: diva, shopaholic, temptress, hmmm. Keep up the women-hating insults, McCainiacs, and it'll be Palin in '12.
Nicely done,Ms. Henneberger...
this started out as an e-mail, until i saw ff essay.
ReplyDeletei haven't felt much like blogging .........lately.
an observation while sitting on the grassy knoll:
after reading numerous articles around the web and recalling some of ff essays and then finally reading this i finally came around, but not sure what to.
i read where maybe some spies had been planted in the mccain camp. wow, that's a new tactic. i'm sure it never has happened before.
my personal opinion of jmac was that he was an ambulance chaser. i'm sure the msm, that i don't watch, will be reporting on this ad nauseum, but what i can't figure out is why did jmac pick sarah palin. did he pick her because he knew he could control a novice on the big stage. if he picked romney he may not have been able to control him. if jmac was dogging it as he was, would romney or jhuckabee have bailed and blew the whole thing wide open. did he mis-judge the reception that she got? why would he have picked a star in the making if he was planning on dogging it in the big race? was it his way of throwing a wrench into the republican race 4 years from know?
i'll pick an unknown and let her mix it up next time so a strong candidate can't emerge.
one other thing i don't understand are the open primary states.
next time you know the dimocrats will be voting for the weak candidate, or the one they want to run against, and cross over and vote. OK is a closed primary state so i dont' know why there would be such a thing as "open" for a presidential primary. imo, that is how jmac got the nomination in the first place.
well, it's getting sort of dark here on the grassy knoll, so i better close for now.
i like ff wonder if the cesspool that is the lower 48 & the media here has soured sarah's appetite for service..........or just pissed her off big time.
i hope it's the latter.
Yes, you are right -- the trashing of Sarah Palin is atrocious. As you said, I believe she can rise above the crap but yes, we do need to hold those who are trashing her accountable.
ReplyDeletehi Y'all,
ReplyDeleteLouie, McCain picked Sarah Palin because he HAD to, plain and simple. He needed someone to solidify the base, becaus ehe certqainly wasn't, and his campaign was in the doldrums.
And by picking a woman, he also hoped to garner PUMA votes after Senator Clinton was humiliated by Obama at the convention.
Ultimately, the PUMAs decided that Left wing cred and the right to kill babies was more important to them than the idea of bringing a capable intelligent woman into the White House.
Virtually every post I've written on Governor Palin has attracted a slew of vicious and obscene comments I've deleted, mostly utilizing a certain four letter word for a woman's vagina.
The Left is petrified of her and wanted to make an example out of her in case any other woman had ideas of straying off the Leftist reservation.
I think Sarah Barracuda will be back in 2012.
Oh, and PS, I don't think McCain was deliberately trying to lose..it just seemed that way.
ReplyDeleteOT
ReplyDeletebut the subject of 2012 has come up in this essay.
who's hussein gonna dump biden for as a running mate?
hillary??????????
As for Sarah Palin, if the liberal media love you, you know you're doing something wrong!
ReplyDeleteWill there even be a Presidential election in 2012?
Is the Republican party trying to commit suicide? Sarah Palin probably added 5 to 10 points to McCain's vote totals by motivating the base to get out and vote and to contribute money to his campaign. The response of the Republican party leadership, John McCain, and his staffers should have been, "Sarah Palin was one of the few bright spots to our campaign and she added at least +5 to our vote total." With this in mind the question to ask is, "where can we find more people like Ms. Palin?"
ReplyDeleteInstead of doing the logical thing what do the Republicans do? They go out and try to destroy the one thing that worked for them in this last election cycle!! These people are either a.)trying to commit suicide, b.)bumbling idiots, or c.)so blinded by some type of ideology that they can't think straight. I think the answer is c.
Btw, it seems unlikey this attempt to destroy Ms. Palin came from a few disgruntled former campaign staffers. It probably initiated within the Republican party leadership. Maybe Mr. McCain may have been in on the plan. He may be trying to get back in the good graces of the media. He, as well as the Republcian party leadership, always has had it in for social conservatives. Why should we expect McCain or the Republican party leadership to change now? I wouldn't expect Mr. McCain to change. He is likely to old but I would hope the Republican party leadership would learn some something from this latest massive beating they have taken at the polls.
Also, other 2012 GOP hopefuls may have a vested interest in trying to destroy Ms. Palin. It is very important that we find out who these people are. Aemrica needs more leaders like Sarah Palin. If the Repbulican party is to survive, the Republican leadership will need to find a way to work constructively with Social Conservatives rather than trying to destroy them.
