North Korea launched their long range missile today that passed over Japan and landed in the mid-Pacific.And the Obama Administration didn't do a thing to stop them , just as SecDef Robert Gates said they wouldn't:
"Our primary concern is to confirm safety and gather information," Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso told a news conference at his Tokyo office Sunday.
The launch was a bold act of defiance against Aso, President Barack Obama, Hu Jintao of China and other leaders who pressed Pyongyang in the days leading up to liftoff to call off a launch they said would threaten peace and stability in Northeast Asia.
The U.S., South Korea, Japan and others suspect the launch is a guise for testing the regime's long-range missile technology — one step toward eventually mounting a nuclear weapon on a missile capable of reaching Alaska and beyond.
They earlier vowed to take North Korea to the U.N. Security Council for a launch they said violates a 2006 resolution barring the regime from ballistic missile activity.
South Korea's presidential Blue House called the launch a "reckless" move that poses a "serious threat" to stability on the Korean peninsula.
"We cannot contain our disappointment and regret over North Korea's reckless act," presidential spokesman Lee Dong-kwan told reporters Sunday. He said the launch of the long-range rocket "poses a serious threat to security on the Korean peninsula and the world."
As I mentioned when SecDef Gates let the world know that we couldn't or wouldn't deal with this, the Obama Administration's farcical inaction sent a message not only to North Korea, but to Iran and Israel.
The Mullahs of Iran now know that if the US is unwilling or unable to interfere with the North Koreans' ICBM test or take any effective action against their illegal nuclear program, the current occupant of the White House is certainly not going to interfere with Iran doing the same thing.
And the Israelis, if they're paying attention, should realize that the US either couldn't or wouldn't do anything to stop North Korea, they're not going to stop an Iranian missile strike on Israel either. And that any guarantees the Israelis get on that score are pretty much worthless.
As for the people of the United States, the message is equally grim. While our enemies are increasing their ability to hit America, the Obama Administrstion is cutting military funding, particularly when it comes to missile defense.
For those of you who don't quite grasp how serious this is, I refer you to a piece by my friend Hube at Colossus of Rhodey as he outlines the dangers of an EMP attack..which doesn't even require a direct hit.
i don't see what all the hubub is about.
ReplyDeleteonce elmer gantry with a tan converts us to the socialist sphere of influence, we will be with the chinese and rooskies, share their UN position, and throw japan under the bus.

I think the best solution here is for Japan and South Korea to develop nuclear arsenals. Surely they have the technology to do so. This puts them in a better position to defend their countries.
ReplyDeletePresmuably they are going to be much more motivated to defend their homelands than Americans or American leaders would be. This is why they need to build nuclear arsenals to countrer the North Korean threat. Also, if they do this, the American military presence is no longer needed. We would be able to withdraw our troops. This would eliminate a large bone of contention between us and important allies.
If South Korea and Japan were to build nuclear weapons, we would get allies that would be able to operate totally independent of us who could act as an important buffer against North Korea and possibly China and we could use our own troops for matters more important than the defense of these countries, like securing our borders.
