Strength Beats Fear - Merkel Wins Major Victory In Germany
The German elections are over, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel has won an historic victory, symbolic of the gradual defeat of socialism across Europe.
The results for her center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its Bavarian sister party, the Christian Social Union (CSU)are lower than in 2005. But what's radically changed Germany's political landscape are the vastly increased totals for the pro free-enterprise business-friendly Free Democratic Party (FDP).
She will now be able to form a center right coalition government that leans further right than the previous one.
The biggest losers were Germany's left center Social Democrats, who had their worst results since the 1950's and will now be out of government.Led by its candidate Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the SPD attempted to track Left in a bid to stop the run off of votes to the more radical Left and Green parties. It proved to be a spectacularly unsuccessful tactic.
The undertone of all this was al-Qaeda's threat to unleash a major attack on Germany if Merkel were re-elected.
It remains to be seen whether they will attempt to make that threat good.
It doesn't seem logical for Al Qaeda to attack Germany right now. While the US receives token support from Germany in the form of non combat forces in Afghanistan, the bulk of German resources go to support Al Qaeda and other Islamic terrorist organizations in their fight against America. Furthermore, as it stands right now, Al Qaeda and other Islamic terrorist entities are clearly winning their war against America right now.
ReplyDeleteThis DOES NOT necassirly mean America will lose. After all there were times during WWII that America and its allies were losing badly but they were able to turn things around and win. We can do the same thing but right now we are clearly losing. To attack Germany right now would introduce an unstable element into a situation where Al Qaeda and its allies have the upper hand.
More than likely if Germany is attacked by Al Qaeda in a German version of 911 or worse they will throw even more support to Al Qaeda and other Islamic terrorists but this is not known. Perhaps they will be more willing to assist us. Since America does not seem very willing right now to fight this enemy with all its might, perhaps Germany might even take the lead in defeating the evil of Islamic Terrorism and the nations who support it!! We just don't know.
The point is it makes little sense for Al Qaeda to introduce an unstable element into a situation where they clearly have the upper hand. It would make far more sense to continue what they are doing which is to continue making steady inroads into their control over Europe and even America. Their agents are active in all levels of the American and Western European governments. Also, the American military is being steadily worn down. As such, I think the notion of an impending attack on Germany is a bunch of bunk.
Then again people who are filled with the kind of hate that Islamic terrorists are filled with may not think rationally. Also, they are extremely arrogant. The combination of hatred and arrogance will cause this enemy to make inevitable mistakes. If we are alert, we will have opportunities to capitalize on these mistakes.
