Talking To Leftards

A good friend writes me that he is sick and tired of lefties posting derogatory comments on his FaceBook wall, and has begun to hit back and let the offenders know that he will no longer tolerate things like derogatory “teabagger” comments or the like, even if they come from friends. He's drawing a line in the sand on that one.

This is a common problem for those on the right of the political spectrum, because leftards have an annoying habit of living in a bubble and believing that everybody thinks like they do.

Now, with many of them, a good dust up can be big fun either online or up close and personal, and regular members of Joshua's Army know that I don't exactly run away from a good fight.

Yes, sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do, but even then you have to pick your spots. You always need to keep in mind WC Field's wisdom:

"Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of energy, and it only annoys the pig."

Only take the labor on when it's a juicy target, you're in the mood and there are possible swing votes listening in.

But what do you do when the leftard in question is someone you're friendly with who is otherwise quite congenial?

Remember, pigs are actually smart animals and like pigs, your leftard buddies can be trained in certain limited areas.

For example, I have leftard friends with whom I have a standing agreement..we never talk politics. Being leftards, they forget, but a simple raised eyebrow from me, a little touch ( just a touch) of the lash on the latest leftard abomination and a "are you sure you really want to talk about this?" tends to remind them and civility reigns.

Some of them are so well trained that they have been known to shush fellow leftards unfamiliar with our little agreement or with me.

Like the TV ads for those old kiddie magic tricks used to say 'Try It On Your Friends!'

  1. Isn't it interesting that your Leftards are scared of your intellectual weight when it comes to debate, but it doesn't seem to occur to them that this same intellectual weight might mean you're right.

  2. Hi Books,
I dunno about 'intellectual weight'..you're probably a lot more gifted in that department than I am.

It's more that, as you know, Leftards don't really like actual debate because debate is about facts, not 'feelings'. It makes them uncomfortable and forces them to face certain facts they'd rather avoid.

I simply remind them of that little factoid, and things are fine.
