Ex-President George W. Bush just provided us with an example of how an actual commander-in-chief acts. Just in case you've forgotten:
Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, visited wounded soldiers and their families near the site of the worst mass shooting on an Army post in the United States.
The Bushes made their private visit to Fort Hood's Darnall Army Medical Center on Friday night. Bush spokesman David Sherzer said in an e-mail that the couple thanked Fort Hood's military leaders and hospital staff for the "amazing care they are providing."
One can only compare this with President Obama's bizarre non-response:
(Oh, and for the record, the man President Obama referred to as a 'Medal of Honor winner' was actually awarded the civilian Presidential Medal of Freedom - by Barack Obama.)
Needless to say,President Obama has gotten a great deal of criticism for his response, even from sources on the Left that normally feel the tingle whenever he speaks no matter what he says.
I don't think it's entirely fair to blame him.
Obama knows absolutely nothing about the military or how it functions. Not only that, but he spent almost his entire life in the bosom of Leftist Academia, where the American military is not merely misunderstood, but despised.Even the Dunhams who raised him had that leftist perspective, as did Obama's early mentor, the avowed communist Frank Marshall Davis.
Well it helps, it's not necessary to have actually served in some capacity in the military to be its civilian commander-in -chief, nor is it a guarantee of success. But at the very least one needs a basic understanding and respect for what it does and how it functions.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt never served in uniform, but as a former Secretary of the Navy, he had that basic respect and understanding, and was a largely successful war president.
President Obama's entire background, beliefs, teachings and associations work against him here. Unfortunately, that's simply how he is.
It's as if by some bizarre fluke Ted Nugent was somehow named head of PETA or Louis Farrakhan the head of AIPAC.
Found this story on a recent 'Daily Telegraph' comments page (sadly didn't get the name of the contributor). Very apposite, I thought!
ReplyDelete“BARACK OBAMA was invited to address a major gathering of the American Indian Nation two weeks ago in upstate New York.
He spoke for almost an hour about his plans for increasing every Native American’s present standard of living.
He referred to his time as a U.S. Senator and how he had voted for every Native American issue that came to the floor of the Senate.
Although Obama was vague about the details of his plans, he seemed most enthusiastic and spoke eloquently about his ideas for helping his ‘red sisters and brothers.’
At the conclusion of his speech, the Tribes presented Obama with a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name, ‘Walking Eagle.’ The proud President then departed in his motorcade to a fundraiser, waving to the crowds.
A news reporter later asked the group of chiefs how they came to select the new name they had given to the President.
They explained that ‘Walking Eagle’ is the name given to a bird so full of shit it can no longer fly.
And that is true native American wisdom“.
