Rumsfeld Calls Out Obama: "Bald Misstatement"

During part of Obama's pathetic speech last night, he repeated something he's said a number of times, claiming that commanders in Afghanistan made requests for reinforcements that the Bush Administration repeatedly ignored because they were focused on Iraq.

Don Rumsfeld has broken his long silence to essentially say that Obama is lying through his teeth:

In a rare break in his public silence since leaving the Pentagon, Rumsfeld rejected the claim as a "bald misstatement" and "disservice" that cannot go unanswered.

"Such a bald misstatement, at least as it pertains to the period I served as secretary of defense, deserves a response," Rumsfeld said in a written statement. "I am not aware of a single request of that nature between 2001 and 2006."

The president leveled the charge in his speech Tuesday night outlining his plan to send 30,000 more U.S. troops into Afghanistan. {...}

Rumsfeld said in his statement the White House should make public any such requests if they exist to back up the allegation.

"The president's assertion does a disservice to the truth and, in particular, to the thousands of men and women in uniform who have fought, served and sacrificed in Afghanistan," Rumsfeld said.

He urged Congress to review the claim in the upcoming debate to "determine exactly what requests were made, who made them, and where and why in the chain of command they were denied."

White House spokesmouth Robert Gibbs responded with his customary level of class and intelligence, explaining that Prez Zero was actually referring to requests that came in during 2008, and then took another gratuitous shot at Rumsfeld:

"I will let Secretary Rumsfeld explain ... whether he thinks that the effort in Afghanistan was sufficiently resourced during his tenure as secretary of defense," he said.

Just one leetle problem.If the Wizard of O was talking about requests for troops that were denied in 2008, the man responsible would not be Donald Rumsfeld, who left in 2006...but Obama's own personal choice for SecDef, Robert Gates!

Whoopsie.

Knowing that, I have a feeling that the Democrat dominated Congress is not going to be in any hurry to do what Rummy suggested and look into what requests were made, who made them, and where in the chain of command any of them were denied.
Might spoil the narrative, y'know, make Obama look bad. And.We.Can't.Have.That.

Point, match and game to Donald Rumsfeld. Prez Zero just got caught in yet another self-serving lie. But then,what's one more?
