Islamist Organization Now Training TSA
According to a press release by the Islamist group The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), the organization has been hired by the Department of Homeland Security to train TSA officers at LAX Airport, and recently completed a two-month course taken by 2,200 officers.
According to the release, the two-month training course is on "the diversity of Muslims around the world from cultural dress to language and tenets," and "taught the TSOs how to properly handle a Quran and discussed the different ways Muslim women and men choose to cover or dress."
Aside from their ideology and their ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, the MPAC is an interesting choice for this particular project. They have a long record of opposing US counterterrorism efforts, especially at airports. The MPAC's stated position is that "our nations citizens—particularly Muslim, South Asian and Arab Americans—have experienced repeated erosion of their civil liberties in our nation's airports, and in their houses of worship through intrusive and questionable law enforcement techniques."
After last year's Christmas Day bombing attempt by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, MPAC Communications Director Edina Lekovic harshly criticized calls for the use of profiling at airports to identify terrorists: "It doesn't work. It's unconstitutional, and it's discriminatory."
The pressure from Lekovic and the MPAC was successful, and the TSA caved in, canceling a policy that would have allowed additional screening of passengers coming from countries identified as havens for Islamist terrorists.
But that's who's training the TSA personnel at LAX.
Talk about the fox in the henhouse...
