Nancy Pelosi Gives Up The Gavel - And Leaves $5.34 Trillion in New Debt Behind
The 111th Congress will go down in history as one of the worst, most corrupt and most irresponsible congresses in history.
Their fearless leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) served as speaker of the House for 1,461 days. During her tenure, the national debt increased by a total of $5.343 trillion ($5,343,452,800,321.37) or $3.66 billion per day ($3.657,394,113.84), according to official debt numbers published by the U.S. Treasury.
Here's a telling quote from Pelosi upon assuming the Speakership in 2007:
"After years of historic deficits, this 110th Congress will commit itself to a higher standard: Pay as you go, no new deficit spending,” she said in her inaugural address from the speaker’s podium. “Our new America will provide unlimited opportunity for future generations, not burden them with mountains of debt."
A number of her fellow Democrats see her as a hero. They just voted overwhelmingly to make he House Minority Leader and there's no question but that if they regain their House majority they'd make her Speaker again.
