Another One Bites The Dust - VA Dem Senator Jim Webb Won't Seek Re-election

They're dropping like flies...

Senator Jim Webb is scheduled to announce his retirement from the senate after his finishes his current term in 2012.

This is a major blow to the Democrats, who have no one comparable to put in the slot.Webb had fairly conservative views for a Democrat, a must since Lefties don't play well in the Old Dominion.

Webb was likely going to face a re-match with former GOP Senator George Allen, who actually had decent numbers going up against Webb,

The Senator also is on record as being disenchanted with public reaction to ObamaCare, which he voted for. In a recent interview Webb admitted that he'd told President Obama in the fall of 2009 that his push for ObamaCare would end in "disaster."

"The healthcare issue really took away a lot of the credibility of the new leadership--Obama particularly--the Reid-Pelosi-Obama trio," he said.

Virginia elected Bob McDonnell as governor by an 18 point margin less than a year into Obama's term and several months before Obamacare was rammed through. The political environment is pretty toxic in Virginia for a liberal Democrat now.

Definitely a seat in play and a likely pickup for the GOP.
