Russians: 'We Want Joint Command Of US Missile Defense Shield'

I'll say this for the Russians - they definitely know whom they're dealing with in the White House.

The Russians have a new demand for Obama as part of the START treaty. They want 'red button' rights - joint command on how, when and if it is used - to the proposed new US-backed missile defense system for Europe!

Sergey Ivanov, Russia's deputy prime minister, made the demand during his last visit to the United States where he met with top officials including Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State.

"We insist on only one thing," he said of the nascent US-backed missile defence shield. "That we are an equal part of it."

"In practical terms, that means that our office will sit for example in Brussels and agree on a red-button push to launch an interceptor missile, regardless of whether the missile is launched from Poland, Russia or the UK." ( emphasis mine)

Caving in to that demand would, of course, render any missile defense system useless. What would happen if Russia's friends in Iran decided to launch a missile against London or Paris and the Russians said 'Nyet'? What would happen if Russia decided the Poles or Czechs weren't being servile enough and decided to make an example of them?

The Russians are already successfully gaming Obama and his clueless Undersecretary of State Ellen Tauscher for export of our most advanced US missile technology, something that will very likely come back to haunt us after President Obama is safely out of office just as Clinton's shipping advanced military technology via Loral to China did.

Will the Obama Administration give in to this new demand? Stay tuned.

Russian military technology already far exceeds any thing the United States currently has available or likely will have available for the foreseeable future. Given that America lacks the financial capablity to engage in the type of research and development that would be necessary to close this gap, Russian dominance cannot be realistically be challenged for some time.

Given that America's most advanced technology lags far behind Russian technology, they won't learn any thing new per say but it might give them insight into how we fight. Essentially this would make Russia's already lopsided advantage even more lopsided!! A horrific idea all the way around!!

The missle defense system as it is currently being proposed never posed any kind of a threat to Russia. It isn't designed with Russia in mind.

Given that the system can't challenge Russia, why were they opposed to this in the first place? Why are they so interested in having control over it? The only logical answer to this is they wish to oppose America and probably the "West." Now when the world's most powerful nation, which is Russia, opposes you that is a VERY SERIOUS problem.

"after President Obama is safely out of office..." Right now the prospects of the country surviving long enough for him to leave office are probably 10% at best. I pray the country beats the odds and manages to survive.

Finally, if you want to be the best, study the best. Russia is by far and away the best right now. Instead of kowtowing to Russia our leaders should be studying them and trying to learn from them and emulate them when and where possible. It does not means we will necessarily want to do every thing they do. Some of it is not applicable to us.

What's the point of the system if Russia has control over it? It would be completely useless. Would Russia give in to a simillar demand if made by the US or someone else. No they wouldn't. This is how Russia became the most powerful nation on earth. Americans could learn alot from these Russians.

  5. Obama and the Russians make a perfectly match set. The Russians have to have a schlong that would make a donkey jealous to come up with something like that, and Obama's got an asshole the size of a grapefruit, so I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he doesn't go along with it.
