The Latest Invitee To The White House - A Rapper Who Talks Cop Killing
"Tell the Law my Uzi weighs a ton - I walk like a warrior from them I won't run." - Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr., aka "Common"
Michelle Obama is sponsoring a poetry night in the White House tomorrow night, and one of the featured guests is an old buddy of the Obama's from Chicago and Jeremiah's Wright's Trinity Church, the 'poet' who wrote the above, along with a lot of other gems, one of which calls for ex-president George W. Bush to be burned " cos’ for peace he no push no button."
Other works by this 'poet' glorify promiscuity, violence, drug use and lawless posturing with a distinctly racist tint, as is typical for the genre.
Just the other day, President Obama was doing some chest pounding over the heroic exploits of the Navy SEAL's who took down Osama bin-Laden, and he made a point of saying that Osama bin-Laden had been 'brought to justice.' The men and women who work and risk their lives every day as police officers are, at the very least comrades-in-arms ot the SEALs in that their mission is the same - to work at keeping society safe.
Inviting 'Common' to the White House telegraphs that to President Obama, the remarks he made about the SEALs were nothing but catchy sound bites.
Even more insulting is the message this sends to black Americans. As I write this, 70% of black births are out of wedlock, and the rates on AIDS, murder, involvement with the criminal justice system alcoholism and drug use are off the charts in the black community. Has the president or his wife seen the stats on how many black youths are victimized by the kind of behavior this kind of garbage glorifies?
That the President and his wife would invite to the White House an 'artist' whose works glorify the behavior that leads to those statistics is clueless and deeply insulting. And while I haven't vetted the rest of the primarily black performers, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that 'Common' was not the only questionable poet invited.
Don't get me wrong. This is America, and 'Common' has a perfect right to his political views and his art. But it's a disgrace to the country and to the White House and to black America that someone like this should receive the cachet and endorsement of a White House invitation.
i especially enjoyed reading this beatdown.
ReplyDeletethere are only a couple of things that are unfortunate.
one being that the majority of americans won't agree with you.
another being of course the majority of americans won't see/read your portrayal of this loser.
as eloquent as this essay was, it is, in the end, a beatdown.
Eh! Somebody had to say something. And I think more Americans would agree with me than you think.
ReplyDeleteSimple, patronizing racism and the bigotry of low expectations is what's being practiced at the White House.

ReplyDeletewhat i don't understand is why laura bush backed down from her poetry meeting when threatened by, as the link provided stated, Bush canceled the event after left-of-center poets protested and threatened to disrupt the event.
People like Mrs. Bush are consumed with what I call 'niceness'. They'd rather just not have a fuss, no matter what.
ReplyDeleteMe, I would have invited , Mark Steyn, Rob Long from the NRO and Toby Keith to recite some poetry, real poetry not the sort of pap the White House invitees will shovel out...just to drive the Lefties crazy.
And I would have made sure that anyone who was silly enough to disrupt the proceedings was arrested and did some jail time.

Rob
