Ah, how typical. Not only is this a memorial honoring an American victory, but it's a Judeo-Christian prayer. And we can't have that now, can we?
Republican lawmakers and conservative activists are expressing outrage after the Obama administration announced its objection to adding President Franklin Roosevelt's D-Day prayer to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The objection was noted during a congressional hearing on Rep. Bill Johnson's, R-Ohio, bill -- the "World War II Memorial Prayer Act of 2011."
"It is unconscionable that the Obama administration would stand in the way of honoring our nation's distinguished World War II veterans," Johnson said. "President Roosevelt's prayer gave solace, comfort and strength to our nation and our brave warriors as we fought against tyranny and oppression."
Of course, the president has made it quite clear in the past that D-Day is not exactly a big deal where he's concerned.
The bill has bi-partisan support and will almost certainly pass the House. Let the Democrats in the Senate kill it, with an election coming up - or make the president veto it.
I urge you to read the prayer President Roosevelt read to the nation on that decisive day in our history. It's quite obvious why the present occupant of the White House would rather we ignore what it expresses.
From the time of its founding until recent decades, America patterned its social, economic, and foreign policies upon the Judeo-Chrisian concepts found in the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Scriptures. As America did this, God blessed the nation immensely and it became an exceptional nation.
ReplyDeleteIn recent decades America and its leaders have departed from these concepts. As the nation has departed from these founding principles, it has begun to lose God's blessings. In recdent years the departure from these founding principles has rapidly accelarated. The result of this is America is no longer an exceptional nation. If America wishes to become exceptional again, its leaders and its citizens will need to return these founding Judeo-Chrisian principles.
Thanks for linking to FDR's prayer. More Americns need to be aware of this. If we are to restore America, I think the first step will be education.
