Secretary John Bryson's spokespeople let the media know that he was taking a two week leave of abscence after being involved in three automobile accidents in Southern California over the weekend, two of them hit and run felonies:
Bryson, whose spokeswoman said he suffered a seizure, said in a memo released by the Commerce Department that he will “focus all of my attention on resolving the health issues that arose over the weekend.”
“Secretary Bryson informed the White House tonight that he will be taking a medical leave of absence from his position as Commerce secretary as he undergoes tests and evaluations,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said in a statement.
This is looking more and more like the scenario I discussed yesterday.
To reiterate briefly, Secretary Bryson was tooling around the San Gabriel Valley, an area in Northeast Los Angeles when he rear ended a Buick that was waiting for a train to cross. He then pulled in front of the car, got out, said, "I guess we better exchange information" but instead returned tohis Lexus hit the car again when he reversed into it and fled the scene.
The three men in the Buick followed him and called 911.
A few minutes later, Bryson hit another car, a Honda Accord. After the third accident, he was found unconscious behind the wheel and was treated for having suffered a seizure.
Now, knowing a bit about seizures, there's something in this story that doesn't ring quite true.
People who experience seizures normally have their driver's licenses rescinded almost immediately. In fact, it's illegal for medical professionals in Californianot to report such incidents.
It's not at all normal for someone to talk lucidly to others during a seizure, let alone be capable of driving a car. In other words, Bryson's behavior after the third accident, where he was found unconscious, would be much more normal for someone whom had a seizure than his behavior during the first and second accidents...which is a lot more consistent with how someone would behave if they were a wealthy public figure involved in an accident who tried to flee the scene, was followed and caught and then fled again.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find that Bryson has a history of seizures was driving on a rescinded license and fled the scene to avoid being arrested. The stress from that could very well have brought on a seizure after the third accident.
What's happened here is that the Obama Administration has advised him to get out of Dodge and away from the media spotlight. Meanwhile Bryson's representatives ( he's quite wealthy) will contact the victims, pay for any medical bills, auto repairs and requested hush money and see to it that the charges are quietly dropped.
Secretary Bryson can then either come quietly back to work one the media attention moves on or resign for 'health reasons'.
It all fits.
Actually he could have had a slight seizure for the first accident. Not all seizures are the same some are minor enough that recovery is immediate and you even know you are having a seizure at the time. He may well have had more seizure activity with the second and third accidents and then passed out or had hit his head during the seizure and had delayed reaction to passing out. Seizures are indeed brought on my stressful situations, and it absolutely illegal for a doctor to allow a known epileptic to get a drivers license. Most states have very extensive laws about when and under what circumstances someone with a seizure disorder can drive.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest has a seizure disorder since he was in high school.
