Muslim Congressman: 'Model U.S. Schools After Muslim Madrassahs

"America will never tap into educational innovation and ingenuity without looking at the model that we have in our Madrassas, in our schools where innovation is encouraged. Where the foundation is the Koran," Rep. Andre Carson (D-Indiana) said at the ICNA-MAS convention at the end of May.

Yes, the Muslim world is certainly noted for its innovations and achievements in science, the arts and the free exchange of ideas, isn't it?

What most if not all madrassah learning actually consists of is indoctrination and rote learning of the Qu'ran, the Sunnah and the Hadiths, usually in Arabic. 'Innovation and ingenuity' are not traits that are encouraged.

However, given whom Rep. Carson is and what his political viewpoint is, I can certainly understand why he would want all schools modeled on madrassahs.

I'm wondering about that innovation thingy he talks about. I certainly haven't seen where any scientific break throughs have come from Islamic countries in recent years or decades. Of course America lags behind in innovation as well.

In your third paragraph, you point out what they are learning in Islamic schools. Actually American schools are not much different. Instead of the Qu'ran, the Hadiths, or the Sunnah American students learn about "man caused global warming", "peace studies", "rights of indigenous peoples", "gay-lesbian-transgender rights" and other things that are not going to help us to be competitive in the 21st century.
