John Huntsman Sr. Calls On Romney To Release Taxes...As Huntsman Jr. Accepts Speaking Slot At Dem Convention
You might remember John Huntsman Jr. Once Governor of Utah, he then went to work for the Obama Administration as Ambassador to China, and later made a farcical run for the GOP nomination that lasted about as long as a popsicle on a hot radiator, in spite of him being very well funded.
As you might recall, he wasn't especially gracious about losing either, and refused to endorse any of the other GOP candidates.
Well, the Obama campaign has found a use for him.
They plan to use a number of 'Republicans' to speak at their convention in Charlotte, North Carolina about the evils of Mitt Romney, and guess what? John Huntsman Jr. is reported to have been tapped for a prime speaking spot.
Wait, it gets better.
The Soros media and the Obama campaign found a way to use this to bring Governor Mitt Romney's taxes back into the limelight again. And it's fairly kinky the way it was done.
First, they had the Soros gally slaves over at Daily Kos speculate that the secret source Dem Senate Majority leader Harry Reid claimed told him Mitt Romeny had paid no taxes over the last ten years was actually Jon Huntsman Sr., Ambassador Huntsman's father. Then they had a Reid Staffer named Jose Parra go on lefty talk radio in Los Angeles and reveal some teaser details about the supposed 'source'...and then retract everything.
And finally, they had Talking Points Memos' own man at the Washington Post, Journolista Greg Sargent contact John Huntsman Sr. directly and ask him whether he was Reid's source.
While Huntsman Sr. denied it, he made a statement for Greg Sargent calling for Romney to release all his tax returns that almost mirrors Harry Reid's original statement - right down to channeling the shame Mitt Romney's father must feel over his son's behavior:
“I feel very badly that Mitt won’t release his taxes and won’t be fair with the American people,” Huntsman told me. In a reference to Romney’s father, who pioneered the release of returns as a presidential candidate, Huntsman said: “I loved George. He always said, pay your taxes for at least 10 or 12 years.”
(In an update, Sargent clarified the elder Huntsman actually meant to say 'release' rather than 'pay'.)
So, a triple play...from Kos to one of Reid's staffers to Greg Sargent. Nice.
Anyone who thinks this wasn't set up in advance needs to have their head examined. It's exactly like 2008, only this time with the power of the White House behind it.
The only thing we don't know is what John Huntsman Jr. ultimately gets out of it. Another ambassadorship or a cushy cabinet post if Obama wins, perhaps?
