Rolling Stones To Israel haters:'Up Yours'
In spite of a concerted campaign by 'anti-Zionists', the Rolling Stones have announced they have no intention of cancelling their planned concert in Jerusalem on Israel’s Independence Day, Monday, April 15.
“We’ve been slammed and smacked and twittered a lot by the anti-Israeli side,” said Mick Jagger, the band’s leader and most recognizable member since 1963. “All I can say is: anything worth doing is worth overdoing. So we decided to add a concert on Tuesday.”
Needless to say, tickets to both concerts, Monday night in Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem and Tuesday night in Bloomfield Stadium, Tel Aviv, have been sold out even as Jagger was speaking.
“This is a huge mistake for the Stones,” declared BDS proponent Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb. “They stand to lose a lot of money as a result of showing solidarity with Zionism, because their most devoted fans also support boycotting Israel.”
“I don’t really count myself as a very sophisticated businessperson,” Jagger responded when asked if the Israel concerts are a bad move business wise. “I’m a creative artist. All I know from business I’ve picked up along the way.”
Mick Jagger, as usual, is putting on whomever was interviewing him here. He came from a well educated middle class background and did quite well in school, enough to get a scholarship grant to attend the London School of Economics at a time when a very small percentage of Brits attended university.
It's also worth mentioning that a number of the Stone's musical contemporaries (Roger Waters, Brian Eno, Carlos Santana, Elvis Costello, Jon Bon Jovi, and Stevie Wonder, among others*) have cancelled concerts in Israel out of fear of counter boycotts or ideology. Some of them have been borderline anti-semitic, like Waters and Annie Lennox.
Unless you're suffering from Israel Derangement Syndrome, it takes courage to face up to these people and tell them exactly where they can stick their Jew hatred. And having enough of a rep even after all these years doesn't hurt.
Thankfully, the Stones have both. And they still rock!
*As a footnote, I no longer listen to, let alone buy music by any of the above artists...
UPDATE: Ah, this is too funny! The entire episode appears to have been a masterful Purim joke by the Jewish Press, which sucked in a huge section of the Israeli press as well as other news media! I bet even Mick and Keef are laughing at this one.
It was good because it was so believable...Mick sounded exactly like Mick Jagger would sound, and the crazed Lefty BDS Rabbi ( who is an actual real life BDS lunatic) also had an authentic tone.
It also may have the added cachet of making itself come true..rumor has it that the Stones are considering adding Israel to their tour.
"...they can stick their Jew hatred." It's got nothing to do with hatred of the Jewish people. It has EVERYTHING to do with hating the borderline-fascist Israeli government. That's what you apologists never understand. Or simply refuse to understand. Deal with it!
ReplyDeleteProtecting the lives of your citizens with defensible borders is "fascist"? Wow!
DeleteApologists? fuck you. oops sorry you miseducated liberal.
DeleteThe Stones are awesome! Sorry anonymous, but you are wrong. Israel has the right to exist and defend itself. Boycotting Israel is just a form of antisemitism. Nothing to be gained from it. I applaud any entertainers who will stand up to the Liberal/Islamofascist cowards. Disappointed with Carlos and Roger. I don't expect much from the others. They would sell more music if they left their politics at their front door.
Delete*chuckle* It has everything to do with Jew hatred,(and in some cases self-hatred) as you know very well Anon.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing the Israeli government has done that's even remotely fascist, as anyone even remotely familiar with Israel and willing to be honest knows very well. The real fascists are located outside Israel's borders, and would commit genocide on every Jew in Israel if they could. Since you obviously support people like Hamas, Iran, Hezbollah, and Holocaust denier and Arafatformer #2 Mahmoud Abbas' corrupt little Judenrein reichlet, that says something about you and how you feel about Jews, doesn't it?
YOU deal with that.
it astounds me, how people who advocate facist policies and promote a facist agenda, choose to refer to others as facist, when they want to use a derogatory term.
ReplyDeleteit's funny to me that ff has to debate the likes of anon. that just presents a literary picture. i have a visual picture of anon.
i bet ff won't post this comment.
“This is a huge mistake for the Stones,” declared BDS proponent Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb. “They stand to lose a lot of money..."
ReplyDeleteI am not sure whether Rabbi Gottlieb understands the incredible success of the Stones and their ability to still draw crowds anywhere, no matter what their politics might be. Mick ain't losing any money here. It's a fool's comment.
Here is the deal. Israel is the ONLY democracy in the Middle East. Israel is the ONLY country in which women have rights. There are arabs as well as Christians inside the country. Any violence is caused by hamas and other terrorist groups. Israel provides important technology in which YOU use. And they also have the best hospitals that they treat EVERYONE in, including palestinians. They come up with cures for diseases. SO educate yourself before you make anti-semitic, anti-zionist comments
ReplyDeleteDamn - I never thought I'd say this, but they just gained ME as a major fan. I couldn't believe what I was reading. Thank God that some men still have big hairy gorgeous balls. :-)
ReplyDelete"“This is a huge mistake for the Stones,” declared BDS proponent Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb."
ReplyDeleteF*CK YOU, fake "rabbi and whore of jihad, may your jihadi friends use a very dull blade on you when they realize what a LOSER you are and decide to cut their losses.
That's cute: when you run out of logic, resort to vulgar profanity!
ReplyDeleteThen you can attempt to explain why a tiny country surrounded by billions of deadly enemies can survive. It is a slap in the face of Islam, which is comprised of many Ishmaelite tribes. They will raise their hand against every man and every man's hand will be raised against them. They are the product of Abraham's fleshly attempt to fulfill God's promise on his own.
But God promised Israel the land they are in, and it will never be taken from them, no matter how bad things may appear for them. In the very darkest hour, when it appears that they will be wiped out, Messiah Jesus will come to their rescue
Would they let Lynn Gottlieb become a Mullah?
ReplyDeleteThe rolling Stones are great musicians. Kol Hakavod for doing these concerts and ignoring the real fascists!
Rabbi Gottlieb is a supporter of the ISM.... not Israel.
ReplyDeleteThe BDS crazies and the Nazis have EXACTLY the same agenda, remember all the old pictures saying "Don't buy from Jews" (but in German)! Do you know the palestinisns send much of their products with Israeli transports to EU as that is the only economical way? That the BDS'ers stop their sales, well - they do not care about palestinians, they just hate Jews.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I didn't think the Stones had the Stones to side with common sense as opposed to image.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually quite impressive and I will now have to revise my formerly tainted opinion of Mick Jagger.
Well done.
I was never a fan of the Stones, or even of popular music - but hey, to paraphrase Andrew Breitbart, "there are only two paths, one is liberty and the other is tyranny." The Stones are standing up for freedom and liberty.
ReplyDeleteI've lived in Israel and believe me, it is NOT a fascist state - the only discrimination I noticed in 3 years was against Jewish males age 18 and above, who have to serve in the military (but then that is caused by having rotten neighbors, the Muslims).
The day has come when standing against apartheid, tyranny and 65 years of military occupation can no longer be silenced, even by labeling it anti-Semitic. The world has awaken to Israels crimes against humanity. I just wish the Stones would to.
ReplyDeleteOne thing wrong with all this. Total nonsense as they would not perform in Israel for any amount of money. Not many people would do so either.
ReplyDeleteHey Anon 7:24 AM! I'm originally from South Africa so I know what apartheid is really like. And I've been to Israel, and labeling it 'apartheid' is pure, anti-semitic garbage. They have Arab doctors, judges, lawyers, policemen, even Arabs who serve in the IDF. The schools are not segregated, neither is the public transport, the housing, the hospitals, or any other aspect of Israeli life. And they have more freedom, more economic opportunity and more protection by the rules of law than in any Arab country, which is why they overwhelmingly stay and don't leave to get away from all that 'oppression'.
ReplyDeleteIn short, you're simply wrong. I must wonder what you'd consider the Palestinian areas of Gaza and the parts of the West Bank they control, where not a single Jew is allowed to live. That's what you'd call apartheid, unless you simply hate Jews.
I personally have no problem calling you an anti-semite, even if you happen to be Jewish by birth, even if you are pleasant to other self-hating Jews in your daily life.
There's no other explanation for such a studious disregard of facts in favor of your obvious bigotry.
Right on, T. West, Esq. I am so glad the truth is getting out. Happy Purim! The latter-day Hamans in the Middle East and the blogosphere will die and the Jewish people will survive.
ReplyDeleteI translated the article to my Swedish blog, http://thegolanispy.wordpress.com/2013/03/01/vill-du-se-rolling-stones-den-15-april/
ReplyDeleteI am sure many enough in this country will be irritated :) remembering when I was much in Israel, I saw many more foreign artists announced than in Sweden.
Massive respect for the Stones, especially compared to all these braindead celebrities who support hamas and say Israel should not defend itself from terrorists.
