None Dare Call It A Hate Crime

There was a particularly horrible murder this week.

A promising young black athlete who was out jogging and minding his own business was essentially gunned down and murdered for sport with a .22 by two white teens from a moving vehicle simply for the thrill of it. The two killers admitted they were simply looking for a black person to kill because 'they were bored', on which more later.

The teens have been arrested and charged with murder, and a third teen who apparently drove the car has been charged as an accessory.

The Department of Justice is currently investigating charging the killers with a hate crime, and black activists are have issued statements demanding justice for the murdered black teen' Al Sharpton made a statement on MSNBC to the effect that this killing proves that "racism is alive and well in America, and that it's open season on black men."

A number of columns have also surfaced in the media echoing the same sentiments, with TA-Nehisi Coates in the Atlantic making the point that the verdict in the Zimmerman trial has "provided a license to kill black males."

As some of you may have guessed, almost everything you read in the preceding five paragraphs was untrue...except, unfortunately, the part about the murder.

Chris Lane, a 22-year-old Australian was staying in suburban Lawton, Oklahoma with his girl friends' family before resuming school at Oklahoma's East Central University, where he majored in finance and was the catcher on the team's baseball team.

He went out jogging one day, where his path intersected with that of James Edwards, 15, Chancey Luna, 16 and Michael Jones, 17.

According to Jones, who was driving and is reportedly cooperating with the authorities, Luna and Edwards randomly targeted Lane and Luna allegedly shot him in the back with a .22 revolver. Lane died in the street.

Jones claims that Luna and Edwards said they shot Lane 'because they were bored'.

Jones, the mixed race teen who was driving then took Edwards to the local courthouse, where he signed papers relating to his probation agreement on another unrelated offense.

The trio were caught when James Johnson, 52, called the police to tell them that the accused killers were hiding in the car park of the Immauel Baptist Church (sic) car park at about 5pm, two hours after they shot Lane.

Johnson claimed that the killers were gang members (he mentioned the Crips, a Los Angeles street gang) specifically) who had threatened his son, who was then at the church with his mother and sister.

"My son called me and said, "They're saying they're coming to kill me," so I called the police and they got here within about three minutes," Johnson said to the Australian Herald Sun.

Johnson also said he knew both boys, and described them as "troublemakers" and "bullies" who had "no parental supervision."

Stephens County District Attorney Jason Hicks told the court how one of the killers, James Edwards danced and laughed as he was taken into a police station to be charged. He described him as having "an attitude of total disregard for law enforcement."

In spite of being minors, Luna and Edwards will be tried for first degree murder as adults and have been denied parole. Oklahoma law allows for that when murder is involved and there are significant prior convictions for violent criminal behavior.

Jones is being charged with using a vehicle to facilitate the discharge of a weapon and accessory after the fact of murder in the first degree. His story is that he had no idea Luna and Edwards planned to kill anyone.

As someone who knows a bit about urban gangs, I doubt that we're dealing with full fledged Crips here, but wannabes. And because of that, I'd bet that Lane's killing wasn't the result of boredom but a 'jumping in', a gang initiation.

So how did this play out publicly?

I don't have to tell you that the Obama Department of Justice isn't pursuing any kind of hate crime investigation or charges. It's a matter of record that the DOJ has never once even bothered to investigate a single civil rights case where a white was the victim and a black was the perpetrator.

In fact, the White House was completely silent on this until Australia's former deputy Prime Minister, Tim Fischer urged Australian tourists publicly to boycott America.

Then, our State Department had spokesperson Marie Harf trot this inanity out:

"The United States is deeply saddened to hear the tragic news of the death of an Australian citizen in Oklahoma."

"This is clearly a tragic death, and we extend our condolences to the family and the loved ones. We understand that local authorities are focused on bringing those responsible to justice. Clearly, we would support that."

The columnist and activists who were screaming bloody murder during the Trayvon Martin affair are maintaining a deadly silence.

Jesse Jackson was cornered into making a brief tweet on the matter, and it's illuminating.

Praying for the family of Chris Lane. This senseless violence is frowned upon and the justice system must prevail.Time posted: 21 Aug 2013, 15:02:20

'This senseless violence is frowned upon'?

This the man who called Trayvon Martin  a "martyr" and said "martyrs have powers" and "He represents all of us", who called Florida the "Selma of our time" and an"apartheid state", who said that George Zimmerman needed to be prosecuted by the UN Human Rights Commission ( if they can get a moment free from demonizing Israel) ?

Frowned upon? Let's not get too harsh here , Reverend Jackson.

And almost all of the legacy media is avoiding mentioning the race of the victim or the perpetrators. This would be one thing if it was a universally applied policy, but as we all know, on those rare occasions when we're dealing with white on black crime, it isn't. The race issue IS the issue in those cases.

Ah, but one thing the media is definitely scripting...that this killing is just another reason for gun confiscation:

Piers Morgant tweeted: "When an innocent Australian student is shot dead in Oklahoma for 'fun' - America's gun crisis becomes the world's problem." Time posted: 21 Aug 2013, 03:46:29

Australia, of course, disarmed its citizens a few years ago with horrible results I've chronicled elsewhere.

If the killers had used an axe or a baseball bat to murder the unfortunate Mr. Lane, would Piers and his friends be campaigning for taking those away too?  And never mind that none of the killers had a legal right to own a gun.

Here's the real crux of the matter. Guns aren't the problem. What is the problem is what I'll call Thug Culture that certain portions of America are so enamored of. When more than three quarters of black births are out of wedlock and  role model quality fathers are AWOL, the problem is particular toxic there,  as the majority of people in the black community will tell you. They know this very well, since they have to deal with the effects first hand.

One of the people who came to James Edwards at his arraignment was his pregnant, underage girlfriend...just another segment of what's become a never ending circle.

That's a big part of the conversation on race we need to have, but rest assured that Eric Holder, President Obama and a whole slew of 'activists' media pundits and other assorted race pimps would never let it happen. It's not just their ideology, it's their livelihood and the source of their power..

UPDATE: Ah, well...it's surfaced that James Edwards apparently had a problem with white people in general, as revealed by his Twitter account. As a matter of fact, it looks like he was an avid player of 'the knock out game', where a black thug goes up to a white pedestrian, hits them without warning and tries to knock them unconscious with one punch.

Tell me again that this wasn't about race.

duncan, okla. has an interesting history with race relations.
about 10 years ago, a black on white gang rape resulted in being swept under the rug, so to speak, as one of the perps had an excellent chance for a full football scholarship to the univ. of oklahoma.
    that was then, ........
this event will gain no national traction, and as this young man was not of the duncan community, this may very well suffer the same fate.
