Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert Asks Netanyahu To Call For A Day of 'Prayer and Fasting' To Protect Israel
Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert is a long time friend of Israel and the Jewish people. Here he relates while speaking at the South Carolina Tea Party Convention how he asked Israeli PM Benyamin Netanyahu to call for a national day of prayer and fasting to protect Israel.
Gohmert told the audience that he told Netanyahu that the United States was pushing Israel “into a corner,” (referring to the Obama Administration's pressure for concessions to Abbas and the Palestinians) and warned Israel was going to see “a couple of crises this year.”
Gohmert said he told Netanyahu that he should call for nationwide prayers.
“And I know you’ve got secularists, and I called off a couple, that you have to deal with here and tell them this is not for you, it is only for people who believe, but I’m declaring a national day of prayer and fasting in this crisis for G-d’s direction and protection, and for all of those who believe,” he explained. “And I said, I promise you God will answer that prayer, the secularists will hear, the world will see, and even people in the United States will see, and Israel will be blessed because of you doing that.”
I agree with him, and I hope Netanyahu follows his advice.
I agree wholeheartedly with rep Gohmert, however, I think it needs to go a step further. Not only is a day prayer and fasting needed for Israel, we need a day of prayer and fasting for America as well. Rep Gohmert did the right thing by encouraging Mr. Netanyahu to do call for this. He should also encourage Mr. Obama to call for the same thing for America. Will either of these men heed Mr. Gohmert's G_dly wise council? I don't know but he is correct to encourage this for Israel and should do the same for America.
ReplyDeleteThis appeal should also be made directly by the rep to his constituents as well to pray and fast for America, Hopefully Israel has leaders who will do the same as well.
From the time of its founding until recent decades, America was heavily influenced in all of it's policy making decisions by the Judeo-Christian principles found in the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Scriptures. Because of this America became and exceptional and extraordinarily blessed nation.
In recent decades the nation has drifted away from the principles to the point where America can no longer realistically be called a Christian nation. As the nation has done this, it has ceased being an exceptional nation and it's very survival hangs by a thread. If America is to survive and G_d willing become an exceptional nation again, it will need a return to these founding principles. As such, prayer and fasting is every bit as important for America as it is for Israel and it is very important for both nations.
