Obama Throws Hagel Under The Bus; 'Bergdahl Swap Was Hagel's Call'
I wonder whether is has ever occurred to President Obama's fans, sycophants and apologists what a low and frankly despicable character their hero has.
Just a week ago last Friday, President Obama was in the Rose Garden telling the nation about what a humane, wonderful thing he had done, grinning delightedly as Robert Bergdahl's Arabic interjection. He was chest pounding about about how he'd see to it that no man got left behind, something that might be news to the families of some recently deceased veterans on the VA 'ignore' list.
He had his national security adviser Susan Rice do the Sunday shows talking about how Bowe Bergdahl had 'served with honor and distinction' and what a fine thing it was to swap a few Gitmo detainees to bring him home.
Then the nation found out that the five detainees were extremely dangerous senior Taliban commanders, that the Pentagon itself had investigated and concluded back in 2010 that Bergdahl was a deserter, that American soldiers had died because of his desertion, and that he had renounced his U.S. citizenship. And what was supposed to be a nice little distraction from Benghazi and the VA scandal imploded overnight as America realized exactly what this president had done.
Now that President Obama's gambit has failed, what does he do? Open up a can of 'not me' and blame someone else!
Yes, now the White is saying this was all Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel's doing and his decision.
Hagel was totally blindsided. Just the other day he had told the BBC and other outlets that this was a "unanimous decision" that was a consensus between him as the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of State, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Director of National Intelligence, and the Attorney General' which means President Obama was certainly in on it, or at least aware of it.
But now, the president has apparently decided to leave Secretary Hagel hanging as the fall guy..especially dicey since it's Hagel who wil be facing testifying before the House Armed Services Committee. And they're already angry because the White House further poisoned the water by letting congress now that 80 to 90 people within the administration knew all about the swap in advance. Yet th epresiodent cheerfully broke the law and saw fit not to inform a single member of congress:
'It strikes me as unfortunate that they could have 80 to 90 people in the administration aware of what was happening and not be able to trust a single Republican or Democrat in the House or the Senate,' Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), said
''There was a sense of anger that members of Congress didn’t know about this,' Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) said to reporters after the briefing, ABC notes. 'Obviously, if there is secure information — members of Congress knew about the capture of Osama bin Laden — and yet 80 to 90 staff in the White House knew about this.'
What kind of leader - what kind of man- takes full credit for something and then cynically undercuts his subordinates like this when reality takes over, blames them for the mess and leaves them to take the abuse and the punishment when it turns out to be an epic failure?
And remember, we're still engaged in hostilities with the Taliban. Not only did we release five top commanders, but the Taliban has seen how well this tactic works and is planning more kidnappings of servicemen, bureaucrats, civilian contractors and medical personnel who aren't deserters. The president of the United States, the commander-in-chief just painted a target on every American within Taliban reach..and blames it on someone else?
How cowardly and lacking in moral fiber do you have to be to pull something like this off just days after you were sounding the trumpets about how wonderful you are?
President Obama has been pulling this act since he was elected, and it's not just old, it's disgusting. How much longer are we going to put up with his lies, his cowardice and his incompetence? Maybe, in the end, it's really our fault after all.
