The Heart Of The Matter

"Despair is a dividend paid to disaster before it is due" - Sir Winston Churchill

This is where things get real.

A number of my readers and other people whose opinion I respect deeply have let me know that the recent debacle in Washington has disheartened and disturbed them to the point of despair.

I hope none of you take what I'm about to say personally, but I think the obituaries are a mite premature...and even harmful.

Part of what fuels decadence (and eventual destruction and defeat) is the belief that everything is rotten beyond repair, so why even try anymore? If enough people feel that way, then they contribute to the defeat and it's over. So it's important to act with optimism and positive energy even when it seems hopeless.

One of the things that surprised me in reading Winston Churchill's history of World War II is how frequently he succumbed to despair during the run-up to the Second World War when he could see where things were headed, and afterward, when he finally took power and the Nazis were expected to invade at any moment.

Sir Winston referred to these periods of depression as 'the black dog'...but he made a point of never sharing these emotions with anyone, and indeed made a point of acting especially cheery and unperturbed when things seemed darkest. And there were plenty of such moments.

He understood instinctively one of William James' basic principles of psychology, that moods are infectious and affect others and that a positive attitude, even a partially feigned one, can have positive results.

And there are positive results to be had. We have a country to win, and one that's worth fighting for.

What we are seeing here is the final act of Gramscian Warfare, named after Communist strategist Antonio Gramsci, who theorized that the Soviets could best export their poisonous ideology to free societies not by military means but by attacking a country's culture and institutions from within. The Soviets first planted this virus in our country as early as the 1930's, and Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, David Axelrod and a great many of the others in and around the current administration are the ultimate products, the dancing and the disease all at the same time.

What's happening in Washington is beneficial because it brings things out in the open where they're readily apparent even to people who normally don't focus on such things in daily life. This is just the recovery phase of the Marxist virus first implanted here 70 years ago, and sometimes recovery has a certain amount of discomfort, especially if a major regurgitation of something poisonous is involved.

For years, there's been a certain constituency for a quasi-fascist welfare state in America in very broad terms because it was couched in appealing language like 'fairness' 'equal opportunity', 'diversity', 'progressive' and 'rights' to various entitlements never mentioned in our Constitution. The Smart People and tenured radicals in the universities supported it and the media and Hollywood promoted it, so the average American vaguely endorsed it because the alternatives were never promoted with anything like the same fervor. It seemed like the right way to think and sounded good, because the pitfalls to the socialist nirvana were never clearly explained to them and few of them had experienced it up close in person.

That's all changed now, and it will be even more apparent in the future. When your enemy is out in the open, he can be defeated. This is a threshold moment.

When Mark Steyn says that Obama and his minions have been thinking strategically, he's only half-right. Because they've also succumbed to hubris and dropped the mask, a major tactical error at this point in the game.

It's the classic conman's mistake, underestimating the mark and pushing for the kill too soon.

There's nothing Obama and the current regime can do that can't be overturned, and that includes everything in the ObamaCare bill, notwithstanding the language Harry Reid put in requiring a super-majority to dissolve the Independent Medical Advisory Board in charge of rationing care, AKA the Death Panels.*

It would have been much harder to dismantle with an expansion of Medicare or the so-called public option, something the more astute Leftards understand all too well.

And if ObamCare passes as it now stands, it will be a massive club to beat Prez Zero and his accomplices with at election time, especially as the high taxes, increased premiums, rationing and penalties kick in immediately and the 'benefits' don't begin until 2014. The average voter understands this instinctively, especially seniors, and we're all going to get a firsthand look at what Obama's neo-Marxist paradise looks and smells like. Only without the job security, of course.

Where Steyn and other usually astute observers are perhaps being influenced by is the current state of the Republican Party. However, that's already changing, in spite of the best efforts of the GOP establishment. The biggest segment of the electorate right now consists of independents and mad-as-hell tea party adherents, and they are already moving the party in their direction....just ask Charlie Crist.

So far, the only mainstream political figure to pick up on this new energy and channel it has been Sarah Palin, who has a huge advantage simply because she was first out of the box by a long shot. However, there will be others, and the Republican Party will have to accommodate them if it doesn't want to go the way of the Whigs.

However, to take advantage of this opportunity to remake the country requires that we work, and even more importantly, it requires faith.

I believe that America is exceptional, and I have no doubt that that was part of G-d's plan, just as the challenges we face now are part of His design. He does nothing by accident, and I think he has good things in store for America in the future.

However, it's up to us to choose that future.

This comes down to the old free will versus divine will puzzle. For my part, I've always felt like G-d is several steps ahead of the game, but allows us to move the pieces he sets on the board. We play in the cosmic chess game, but with a Master Player who can see where the game's going at all times.

I just got through celebrating a holiday that commemorates the miraculous victory of a bunch of untrained farmers and artisans over one of the most advanced professional armies of its time, the heirs to Alexander the Great. They could never have done it if they had allowed doubt to triumph.

The quasi-fascism Obama and his buddies are flirting with is a wake up call for our beloved Republic. In the end it will not kill us, but make us stronger.

And we will need that strength. If even tools like Tom Friedman are recognizing that we will have to defeat Islamic fascism to survive, the real war is not far off.

Remember....when it comes down to it, Americans still rise superbly to challenges. So rise up and don't succumb to despair, because this is a fight we can win. Rise up, and fight harder, because the alternative is you telling your grandchildren what it used to be like to live in a free country.

The choices are really that stark.

*Aside from the fact that this violates Senate Rules and was likely unconstitutional under Article I, if the rest of the nonsense is repealed there's nothing much for the 'advisory board' to ration.

And to the extent this section is legislation, it doesn't prevent a future Congress from ignoring it and amending the statute anyway - the 'last in time' rule would preclude a court assault on any act doing so.

On the other hand, if it wasn't a rules change but a 'procedures change', as the Dems blithely told Jim DeMint, a future (Republican) presiding officer could easily concur that yes, the applicable wording was not rules change, and the usual rules still apply, thus allowing a repeal without a super-majority. Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander.

    The Watcher's Council's Christmas Hoedown!

Welcome to the latest edition of the Watcher's Council nominations, a some of the best writing from a group of most incisive blogs in the`sphere. Every week, the members nominate two posts each, one of their own and one from outside the group for consideration by the whole Council. The Council votes to pick the winners in each category and the results can be seen in this space on Friday morning.

Hey everybody, Christmas is just around the corner!

I make no excuses...this is simply my favorite time of year. Perhaps it's because I was a winter baby born in January but my energy level,my intuition, my creativity and yes, my enjoyment of life get amped up right around the Solstice of December 21st. I can feel myself getting rejuvenated by the colder temperatures and the winter skies.

Since I don't celebrate Christmas and never did even as a child, I have no poignant family memories associated with the holiday. But what I most love, aside from what the season does to me it what it does to other people.

For a brief time, many people seem to not sweat the small stuff, to go out of their way to treat even strangers with that extra bit of courtesy and warmth that reminds us we're all human. Mystical things happen.

Perhaps that's a sort of unconscious remembrance of a young couple with a child on the way who had problems finding a hotel room during the holiday rush and ended up having to bed down in a manger. But in the end, things seem to have worked out.

Wherever and whomever you are, take a breath, ditch your worries for awhile, enjoy life (trust me, they'll either have worked themselves out and be gone or be waiting for you patiently when you get back) and let the magic spread over you. It will do you good.

Have a Blessed and Merry Christmas.

    Lebanon Surrenders

Lebanon has now officially become a colony of Syria and Iran, and the March 14th 'Cedar Revolution' is officially over.

What marked Lebanon's final surrender was the visit by Lebanese PM Saad Hariri to pay tribute to Syrian President Bashar Assad, the man who likely gave the order to assassinate Hariri's father Rafik, who preceded him as Lebanon's prime minister.

While Syria's army no longer officially occupies Lebanon, that's because it's unnecessary. Iranian and Syrian proxy Hezbollah is now a major part of Lebanon's unity government holding key ministries with a veto power over anything the Lebanese government does, Hezbollah ally Michel Suleiman holds the presidency and Hezbollah has maintained its military power. In fact, as the Lebanese government recently declared, Hezbollah is now an official part of Lebanon's armed forces and will be allowed to keep its weaponry in defiance of UN Resolution 1701, which was always a joke anyway.

Among other things, this is a defeat for America and a major victory for the Syria/Iran axis.

Just like their counter parts in Iran, the pro-democracy freedom loving elements were left to twist in the wind.

It started when George W. Bush allowed Condaleeza Rice to take control of his foreign policy during Bush's second term. It was Condi Rice who constantly favored 'engagement' with Syria while Basher Assad made Syria a transit point for arms and fighters headed into Iraq to kill Americans. It was Condi Rice who virtually jammed UNSCR 1701, UNFIL and the travesty of a ceasefire down Israel's throat at a point when the war could actually have resulted in the defeat of Hezbollah..although to be fair, she had the help of Ehud Olmert and Tzipi Livni, the weakest leaders in Israel's history. It was Condi Rice who insisted on inviting Syria to the the gang rape of Israel in Annapolis, which signaled clearly to the March 14th movement that they had better come to terms with Assad while they could, and who saw to it that millions in US aid were pumped into Lebanon even after Lebanon's President Suleiman signed a defense pact with Iran.

The Obama Administration accelerated this trend mightily, starting with the president's speeches in Turkey and Cairo and his distancing his administration from Israel. Obama's almost obsessive desire to present an 'unclenched fist' to Iran and Syria and for diplomacy for the sake of diplomacy was taken as a sign of weakness throughout the Middle East and it to Hariri and his allies that any semblance of democracy in Lebanon was dead they had better deal while it was still possible.

So instead of the UN tribunal trying Syria's Bashar Assad and his thugs for the murder of his father and countless other Lebanese politicians and journalists, we had the spectacle of Saad Harriri running to Damascus and kissing the ring of his father’s murderer.

The strategy is pretty tranparent. The mullahs now control a bloc consisting of Lebanon, Iran,Syria, Gaza and the Sudan, and they will undoubtedly try to 'Lebanonize' Iraq after the next elections by getting someone from the Iran backed Shi'ite elected now thatthe Alliance has pushed aside Maliki .

Jimmy Carter Apologizes To Jews !!##!?!

    http://www.struat.com/election/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/jimmycarterolder.jpg

    Admittedly,this was a jaw dropper:

Former US President Jimmy Carter on Monday asked for the Jewish community's forgiveness for any negative stigma he may have caused Israel over the years.

    Carter, who is not a popular character in Israel, enraged the American Jewish community's in the past with various statements made in his book "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid."{...}

"We must recognize Israel’s achievements under difficult circumstances, even as we strive in a positive way to help Israel continue to improve its relations with its Arab populations, but we must not permit criticisms for improvement to stigmatize Israel.

"As I would have noted at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, but which is appropriate at any time of the year, I offer an Al Het for any words or deeds of mine that may have done so," he said.

"Al Het" refers to the Yom Kippur prayer asking God forgiveness for sins committed.

Head of the Anti-Defamation League Abraham Foxman welcomed Carter's apology, saying it marked the beginning of reconciliation.

Did the Saudis bounce a check on Carter? On as he gets a little closer to the Ultimate Judge, is he starting to remember what's actually in the Bible he purports to believe in?

Tell you what, Jimmah....your Jew hatred was a sin against G-d who will forgive you, but also against man, and if you claim to know something about Yom Kippur and Atonement, you know this is just the beginning. Teshuvah, repentance for a sin committed against man requires more than just a sorry.

You have to make restitution and an honest attempt to undo some of the harm you've done.

For starters, instead of quietly admitting you were wrong to the likes of the ADL. write one of those famous editorials in the New York Times or the Washington Post and announce it to the world. Admit you plagiarized large portions of "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid", that it had huge and almost defamatory factual errors that you stubbornly refused to admit, even when long time associates of the Carter Peace Center resigned in disgust. Be honest and have the humility to admit that Apartheid and Israel don't belong in the same sentence, let alone as the thesis of an entire book.

Hit the talk shows and confess.

Talk honestly about your many dealings with Hamas, and how you met in Damascus with your buddy Khalid Mashaal, head of the Hamas politburo for the express purpose of advising Mashaal on how high a ransom to ask for the release of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Admit that you were shamefully inhumane not to insist that Hamas allow the Red Cross to visit Shalit.

Admit how you covered for Yasir Arafat, even though you knew he murdered Americans and had two of our diplomats kidnapped and tortured to death.

    http://www.moonbattery.com/archives/carter_arafat.jpg

Go to Israel and apologize personally to the people of Israel for demonizing them the whole world over.

That's what repentance looks like, according to G-d's own standards, Mr. Carter. And you know as well as I do that nothing is going to change for you spiritually until it happens.

Jesus said about someone very like you that they were neither hot nor cold, so he would spew them out of his mouth and reject them. Right now, according to that standard, you're barely luke warm.

Do the right thing, for your own sake if nothing else.

    -selah -

UPDATE: Ahhh...we now have a a reason for the 'apology', thanks to Elder of Ziyon (via Soccer Dad. Apparently Cwayzie Unkie Jimmie's putrid grandson Jason is planning a run forthe Georgia State Senate after the local Democrat's ambassadorship appointment to Singapore comes through from Obama, and Jason is going to need some Jewish votes to win.

Jimmy Carter is a sordid piece of Jew-hating garbage...and Abe Foxman and the ADL, the Jewish equivalent of the NAACP aren't much better for providing cover for him. Wonder if a donation changed hands?

Payoffs To The States - How Harry Reid Got His 60 Votes With Your Money

    http://secchiarolifarm.com/sitebuilder/images/hog_eating-342x290.jpg

Chris Frates over at the Politico outlines some of the bribes Harry Reid used to push ObamaCare through:

Ben Nelson’s “Cornhusker Kickback,” as the GOP is calling it, got all the attention Saturday, but other senators lined up for deals as Majority Leader Harry Reid corralled the last few votes for a health reform package.

Nelson’s might be the most blatant – a deal carved out for a single state, a permanent exemption from the state share of Medicaid expansion for Nebraska, meaning federal taxpayers have to kick in an additional $45 million in the first decade.

But another Democratic holdout, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), took credit for $10 billion in new funding for community health centers, while denying it was a “sweetheart deal.” He was clearly more enthusiastic about a bill he said he couldn’t support just three days ago.

Nelson and Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) carved out an exemption for non-profit insurers in their states from a hefty excise tax. Similar insurers in the other 48 states will pay the tax.

Vermont and Massachusetts were given additional Medicaid funding, another plus for Sanders and Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) Three states – Pennsylvania, New York and Florida – all won protections for their Medicare Advantage beneficiaries at a time when the program is facing cuts nationwide.

All of this came on top of a $300 million increase for Medicaid in Louisiana, designed to win the vote of Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu.

{...}It was Nelson who proved that he who plays hardest to get, gets the most.

Republican Senator Mike Enzi of Wyoming had the right of it, accusing the Democrats of favoring Medicare Advantage beneficiaries in Pennsylvania, New York and Florida at the expense of seniors in other parts of the country:

“The Democrats are playing ‘Let’s make a deal’ with trillions of your hard-earned tax dollars. You and all the American people should know that the majority leader is buying his votes with your money,” said Enzi (R-Wyo.) “The Reid bill gives sweetheart deals to a few states and the rest of the country will foot the bill.

I forget which Senator it was (Bob Corker?Saxby Chambliss?) who said that ObamaCare is essentially the about the coasts colonizing the heartland. He was exactly right.

Merry Xmas! A Comprehensive List of Tax Hikes in Reid-Obama Health Bill

The good folks at Americans For Tax Reform have supplied us with a list of how bad things are so far - and remember, tax rates will be rising anyway due to the expiration of the Bush tax cuts. Here are a few samples of what's in store if this garbage bill passes:

Employer Mandate Tax (Page 348/Sec. 1513/$28 bil/Jan 2014): If an employer does not offer health coverage, and at least one employee qualifies for a health tax credit, the employer must pay an additional non-deductible tax of $750 for all full-time employees. Applies to all employers with 50 or more employees.

If the employer requires a waiting period to enroll in coverage of 30-60 days, there is a $400 tax per employee ($600 if the period is 60 days or longer).

( That's a great to get employers to do new hires and cut unemployment, no?)

Excise Tax on Comprehensive Health Insurance Plans (Page 1979/Sec. 9001/$149.1 bil/Jan 2011): Starting in 2013, new 40 percent excise tax on “Cadillac” health insurance plans ($8500 single/$23,000 family). Higher threshold ($9850 single/$26,000 family) for early retirees and high-risk professions. CPI +1 percentage point indexed. Longshoremen have been exempted (page 362 of the manager’s amendment)

(Translation? Much higher premiums on any current health plans you own or receive courtesy of your employer. Count on losing a much bigger chunk of your paycheck.)

Employer Reporting of Insurance on W-2
(Page 1996/Sec. 9002/Min$/Jan 2011): Preamble to taxing health benefits on individual tax returns.

    Medicine Cabinet Tax
(Page 1997/Sec. 9003/$5 bil/Jan 2011): No longer allowable to use health savings account (HSA), flexible spending account (FSA), or health reimbursement (HRA) pre-tax dollars to purchase non-prescription, over-the-counter medicines (except insulin)

HSA Withdrawal Tax Hike (Page 1998/Sec. 9004/$1.3 bil/Jan 2011): Increases additional tax on non-medical early withdrawals from an HSA from 10 to 20 percent, disadvantaging them relative to IRAs and other tax-advantaged accounts, which remain at 10 percent.

Excise Tax on Charitable Hospitals (page 2001/Sec. 9007/Min$/immediate): $50,000 per hospital if they fail to meet new "community health assessment needs," "financial assistance," and "billing and collection" rules set by HHS (updated on page 364 of manager’s amendment).

Tax on Innovator Drug Companies (Page 2010/Sec. 9008/ $22.2 bil/Jan 2010): $2.3 billion annual tax on the industry imposed relative to share of sales made that year.

Tax on Medical Device Manufacturers (Page 2020/Sec. 9009/$19.2 bil/Jan 2010): $2 billion annual tax on the industry imposed relative to shares of sales made that year. Exempts items retailing for <$100. Rises to $3 billion annually in 2017 (updated by page 364 of manager’s amendment).
(Look for prices on pharmaceuticals and medical devices to go up. The Democrats in Congress still fail to realize that businesses don't pay taxes..they simply pass them on to their customers.) Tax on Health Insurers (Page 2026/Sec. 9010/$59.6 bil/Jan 2011): $10 billion annual tax on the industry imposed relative to health insurance premiums collected that year. Phases in gradually until 2017. Fully-imposed on firms with $50 million in profits (updated on page 365 of manager’s amendment)

( Like I said, businesses don't pay taxes.Another factor designed to raise your premiums.)

There are also major 'individual mandate' excise taxes as well a hefty hike in the Medicare Payroll Tax, plus a lot of other goodies.

Bottom line? Obama plans to let this dysfunctional bit of theft go through...because once it's in place, he can always 'improve' it later and get the government controlled health care he always wanted anyway.

The renowned bank heist artist Willie Sutton once famously said he robbed banks because 'that's where the money is.' If he were around today with that philosophy, I guarantee you he'd have a prominent place in the Obama Administration.

    Hillary In 2016????????

Toby Harnden is the British Telegraph's American correspondent and he's normally fairly astute, but here I have to wonder what he's been smoking when he says that the smart money is on Hillary Clinton for 2016:

Having elected Barack Obama amid near national euphoria, America is experiencing something akin to buyer's remorse.

Obama's popularity is the lowest of any American president at the end of his first year in office since polling began. Yet as his approval ratings have nose-dived, those of his Secretary of State have curved elegantly upwards.

    A recent poll by the Clarus Research Group found that Hillary Clinton had a 75 per cent approval rating compared to 51 per cent for the man who defeated her in their epic battle for the Democratic nomination. {...}

[Mrs. Clinton]now finds herself ideally placed to succeed Mr Obama or, in the increasingly plausible scenario that he becomes a one-term president, the Republican who ousts him in 2012.

During the past year, Mrs Clinton has done just what she did when she entered the Senate in 2001 - knuckled down to the hard grind of policy while building relationships with wary sceptics.

The woman who was one of the most polarising figures in American politics now has a glowing 65 per cent approval rating among Independents and healthy 57 per cent among Republicans.

Even sworn enemies on the Right marvelled at her toughness in refusing to concede to Obama until the bitter end in the summer of 2008 and now view her as more hawkish than the president.

Mrs Clinton, moreover, has lived in Arkansas and won over conservatives in upstate New York as well as trouncing Obama in states like West Virginia and Pennsylvania - establishing a connection with Middle America that has eluded the president.

This is the sort of thing that happens when foreigners attempt to judge America and Americans by their own norms, and Brits are usually more susceptible to this fallacy than most.

'Clarus Research'? Perhaps if I see something from Rasmussen I might treat it with more credibility. That 51% rating for Prez Zero is a dead giveaway, when Rasmussen and NBC have him at 46% and 47% approval ratings, respectively.

Even assuming Mrs. Clinton's approval ratings are anything near what Harnden claims, that's largely because she's been out of the public eye, since Barack Obama put most of the crucial departments of her office under czars, special envoys and advisers and she's been essentially relegated to being a messenger girl. Far from dealing with what Harnden calls 'the hard grind of policy' she's been placed totally out of the loop.Put her back in the public eye again and her negatives would resurface like an outbreak of the plague, especially since she's associated with the Obama Administration's poisonous policies even though she's had very little input in formulating them.

And that brings us to another problem with Harnden's analysis that deals with something he appears to not be aware of.

Mrs. Clinton did not 'lose' the 2008 Democrat nomination. In fact, she won the primaries in the large US states quite handily. What actually happened is that the 'super-delegates', made of Democrat party pols and influential figures peddlers not attached to any state delegations awarded the nomination to Barack Obama to avoid angering Obama's supporters on the Far Left and more importantly, alienating one of the few reliable constituencies the Democrats have left - the Black vote.

That's why it's doubtful that she would be able to challenge Obama in 2012( assuming he runs again) or be able to run successfully in 2016. Because to do that, she'd have to somehow divorce herself from the Obama Administration's policies, which would mean criticizing him - and losing a fair amount of her base.

As for her supposed connection with Middle America, perhaps Toby Harnden needs to speak to some of its denizens and get a clue as to how they view Mrs. Clinton. It's not pretty.

If she manages to get the nomination and run in 2012, all the things Middle America has always disliked about her are going to surface with a vengeance. And after four years of Obama, another Left wing ideologue running as a Democrat an dtainted by an association with Obama is going to have a real job making the sale if she's pitted against any kind of reasonable candidate.

We may very well have our first female president in 2012,but if I were a betting man there's a certain very fast filly from the Far North I'd put my money on to win.

That particular thoroughbred has already shown us she runs very well against the odds, and if she's in the race I think she takes it going away.

"Mumbai-Style Attack Is Coming To London"

In an official statement, Scotland Yard warned businesses in London to expect a Mumbai-style attack on the city.

In a briefing in the City of London 12 days ago, a senior detective from SO15, the Metropolitan police counter-terrorism command, said: “Mumbai is coming to London.”

The detective said companies should anticipate a shooting and hostage-taking raid “involving a small number of gunmen with handguns and improvised explosive devices”.

    The warning — the bluntest issued by police — has underlined an assessment that a terrorist cell may be preparing an attack on London early next year. {...}

Officials now report an increase in “intelligence chatter” — communications captured by electronic eavesdropping agencies. One senior security adviser said the police warnings had intensified and become much more specific in the past fortnight.

“Before, there has been speculation. Now we are getting what appears to be a definite plot to carry out a firearms attack on London,” he said.

Back when the Mumbai attacks occurred just over a year ago, a number of observers ( including myself) speculated that it was the forerunner of a new type of jihad attack targeting urban environments in relatively open cities.

From a jihadi viewpoint, London is an ideal environment for this kind of attack. The civilian population is largely disarmed and defenseless, the available police are already stretched thin because of the large urban environment and would be outgunned by automatic weapons and the SAS who normally deal with terrorism in London would be hard pressed to deal with multiple attacks planned and carried out by a trained team. The city is a target rich environment with large hotels, stores and Jewish schools, synagogues and community centers to target, and those targets could easily be pre-programmed into GPS units as they were in Mumbai.

And finally, just as in Mumbai, London has a large Muslim population, a number of whom can be expected to be jihad sympathizers prepared to gather intel, provide safe houses for the jihadis and perhaps even participate in the attacks themselves.

If it happens, the point of origination will likely prove to be a jihad friendly country like Pakistan, perhaps utilizing British Muslims radicalized and recruited at home who went back to Pakistan to be trained and equipped.

Considering Britain's attitude toward a country on the front lines of jihad like Israel, the British government's consistent support of organizations like Hamas and their general willingness to bend over backwards for Islamists, the fact that their own security services now predict a murderous attack they admittedly would have trouble stopping is ironic.

As author Melanie Phillips pointed out in her superb book "Londonistan", the British authorities had a tacit agreement with the Islamists that they would look the other way at minor incidents and proselytizing for jihad at places like the Finsbury Park Mosque in exchange for relative immunity from large scale terrorist attacks.

In retrospect, Britain's appeasement of jihad and Islamism appears not to have worked out so well.

While I would advise this of peace loving British subjects in general, I would particularly advise Jewish institutions in London and other large British cities to step up their security considerably, even if it means obtaining arms clandestinely and learning how to use them. A few private security guards poorly armed at best are simply not adequate insurance anymore, and some jobs it's simply better not to hire out.

$10 Girl In A $5 Town; Ben Nelson Whores Out For ObamaCare

    http://lastfreevoice.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/prostitutionnd.jpg

Harry Reid finally managed to find his 60 votes. He did it by finally buying out Democrat Ben Nelson, in one of the most blatant examples of political prostitution ever seen in Washington.

Turns out that Louisiana's Mary Landreiu priced her services kind of cheaply at that. She must be green with envy at a higher priced hooker like Ben Nelson.

Here's what Ben Nelson sold himself for.

Essentially, American taxpayers will pay Nebraska’s Medicare bills forever. He also got special federally funded exemptions physician owned hospitals in Nebraska — and Nebraska only. Nelson essentially sold his vote and caved on federal funding for abortions in order to get the money.

Since Obama Care’s “reforms” are going to skyrocket medicare costs and insurance premiums and put an immense financial burden on already stressed state budgets, Nelson’s bribe is going to be worth billions of dollars over time. But not to the people of Nebraska, and I have a feeling most of them realize it.

Remember that Nebraskans still pay federal income taxes, and they will still be responsible for their part of the ultimate price tag. And that includes nearly $400 billion in new taxes over the next decade and by nearly $500 billion in spending reductions, primarily cuts to Medicare as seniors face rationed care.

The revised Senate bill would require every American for the first time to obtain insurance or face a penalty of as much as $750 a year or 2 percent of their income, whichever is greater, with a cap for families set at $2,250. Want to bet that your new insurance premiums will be geared to those numbers? And remember, since you're required to to buy insurance from somebody, there's no incentive for competition in pricing or services. In fact, there's every incentive for insurance companies to collude on pricing - which is exactly what happened in California after the state made auto insurance mandatory.

Any 'savings' will not trickle down but merely go to the state government to plug other holes in the dam.

And guess what - those higher taxes and penalties go into effect immediately, which means 2010. So next year, everyone - including the residents of Nebraska - are going to be taxed at a higher rate and forced to purchase mandatory insurance. But the so-called benefits of the program don't actually kick in until 2014. That allows the Democrats to get through the 2010 elections and get Barack Obama re-elected before people start noticing how long it takes them to actually see a doctor or get a needed operation performed.

At least that's the plan - because they think you're stupid.

The Senate bill supposedly will cost a mere $871 billion over the next decade, supposedly reducing federal budget deficits by $132 billion during the same period. These numbers have fluctuated wildly...originally, the Baucus Bill was projected to cost $829 billion while allegedly cutting the deficit by by $81 billion over a decade, and let's not even talk about the House bill once it hits reconciliation and all the House bribes get added in.

Let's reduce this to a more human scale.

I've got a deal for you - I want you to refinance your mortgage now in 2009 dollars and spend $8,710 in fees and costs. In exchange you'll save $1,320 over ten years in 2019 dollars..if my figures are correct and nothing changes.

    Any takers out there?

If there are, I have some friends in Nigeria with an amazing business proposition for you - But Your Trust Is Required.

Actually, the real numbers don't matter. Those figures are absolutely certain to be bogus because the Democrats made sure that provisions requiring a photo ID and proof of citizenship to access coverage were stripped out of the bill. Language supposedly prohibiting this kind of abuse is in the Baucus bill - at least it is now - but with no means of enforcement, so it's cosmetic.

And since our southern border is still a sieve and likely to remain so under this administration, any projections on savings that don't take into consideration the system abuse by non-citizens are seriously out of whack. And we haven't even mentioned the cost of fraud.

Here's another funny - once cloture is voted on, it will only take 51 votes pass this bill and send it to the House. Don't be surprised if Nelson votes against it then, with Harry Reid's express permission, when Nelson has nothing to lose.Just so he can go back home and tell his constituents that he really actually voted against ObamaCare.

Like I said, they think you're stupid.

UPDATE: Uhhh, the CBO is now correcting itself and saying that amount that ObamaCare will supposedly cut the deficit was just a wee bit optimistic..

Look for further walkbacks in the 'savings' as time goes on.

Some questions are awfully hard to answer, aren't they?

    Obama Does Copenhagen..And Flops

Prez Zero showed up in Copenhagen in the middle of a blizzard to try and salvage the Global warming revival, and by all accounts it was a huge fail.

He was reduced to empty platitudes and lecturing the Chinese about getting with the program, which is comical in itself. Since when does somebody rant at someone they owe $800 billion to?

Needless to say, the Chinese, in between laughing behind their hands at Zero are adamant about opting out.

Additional comedy gold - TOTUS was apparently sick and couldn't make the trip, so Obama is reading from notes here, Normally, with his stereo TOTUS, his head swivels mechanically from side to side, which is funny enough. This time, there's an additional movement down to the podium that makes the president look for all the world lie one of those drinking birds you buy in novelty shops. Give yourself a good chuckle going into the weekend and watch this the first time for a couple of minutes with the sound off...I dare you not to laugh.

Even funnier was his threat to take that $100 billion Hillary Clinton promised third world despots to cope with climate change off the table if China and India didn't bend over.

Obama has quadrupled our national debt, with no end it sight. We're $12 trillion in debt, with a $1.4 trillion dollar deficit. And Obama thinks he's going to borrow more from the Chinese to bribe these people with?

Remember..carbon knows no borders. Even if the junk science this whole movement was founded on is correct, the 'carbon' the EU and US bankrupt themselves not producing will more than be made up by developing countries who want to grow their economy...so the net effect on 'reductions' is z-e-r-o.

It's simply a wealth transfer to the third world and a sovereignty transfer to a bunch of faceless UN bureaucrats.

    And that's no laughing matter.

Iranian Forces Seize Iraqi Oil Well

Iranian forces took control of a southern Iraqi oil well on a disputed section of the Iran/Iraq border today.

The site, known as Well 4 lies in the Fauqa Oil Field, part of a number of of fields Iraq unsuccessfully put up for auction to oil companies for drilling rights back in June. It's also roughly 500 yards from an Iranian border fort, although it clearly falls on the Iraqi side of a border:

"There has been no violence related to this incident and we trust this will be resolved through peaceful diplomacy between the governments of Iraq and Iran," a US military spokesman told AFP at Contingency Operating Base Adder, just outside the southern Iraqi city of Nasiriyah.

"The oil field is in disputed territory in between Iranian and Iraqi border forts," he said, adding that such incidents occur quite frequently.

This is mere muscle flexing by Iran. The real push will come during the elections, when the Iranian backed majority Shi'ite bloc who have already dumped Maliki push for one of their own to take over just as we're pulling out.

Iran intends to Lebanonize Iraq and make it a colony. That's their ultimate goal.

The Senate ObamaCare Bill - Watching heads Explode Part II

    [exploding_head.jpg]

As I mentioned last night, heads are absolutely exploding on the Left over the Senate Obamacare fiasco.

Prez Zero is now taking well deserved flak from both sides:

Howard Dean and Obama shill David Axelrod went toe to toe this morning, with Dean issuing a third straight day of attacks and Axelrod calling in to messNBC to diss Dean and say that the Angry Left would be 'insane to sink this bill'.

Nor, as I pointed out, is Dean the only one with harsh words about ObamaCare as it now stands.

Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow, and of course Keeeff Obermouth are going berserk. I bet the rug under Obermouth's desk was soiled after that rant.

The Left blogs are likewise foaming at the mouth. here's a fairly representative sample from Markos 'screw those Iraq mercenaries' Moulitsas over at Daily Kos wrote "Time to kill this monstrosity coming out of the Senate....You pass a s——-y program now that further bankrupts our nation, and we won't be talking about 'fixing' it in a few years, but whether it should even exist."

As Obama-ite Peggy Noonan put it, talking to Axelrod on MessNBC today: “On the issue of health care, you are losing the left, you are losing the right, you are losing the center. That looks to me like a political disaster.”

Actually, the fragging Prez Zero is getting from his own side is more than well deserved.

while we haven't seen th ewhole bill yet - Harry Reid refuses to let it come out publicly for air - the core elements are well known.

There's a lot about mandating that everybody is covered, including those who get here illegally. To spread the pain around and supposedly lower costs, everyone will be required to participate and buy insurance from private carriers if they're US citizens. If they refuse, they will get hit hard with large tax penalties by the Feds.

There are no provisions for shopping across state lines for insurance, so there are few limits to what insurance carriers may charge for this mandated coverage..and the individual consumer can expect a major hosing as premiums rise unless you're one of the Deserving Poor that qualify for Federal subsidies.

And where will the cash for subsidies come from? The Democrats plan to cut nearly $500 billion from Medicare to fund them. Can you say rationed care? How 'bout death panels? This is a $6 trillion bridge to nowhere,

Oh, there are a few more wrinkles...the bill trashes the Hyde amendment by allowing federal funding for abortions. And of course, Obama's corrupt sweetheart deal with Big Pharma remains intact.

And believe it or not, Prez Zero and his minions are pushing to get the bill passed before Christmas, no matter how bad it is - because they've spent all this energy on it and Obama wants a WIN dammit, because his numbers are tanking, Obama atrributes that to the ObamaCare debacle and he wants to put this behind him and move on to yet another irresponsible attempt to wreck the country.

I understand why the Left is so angry about all this, I really do. Because unlike the rest of us, they bought Zero's crap with an almost sexual fervor. They believed.

And now they're faced with the knowledge that they were all conned, screwed and left bleeding in an alley with their wallets missing. And without even being kissed.

Global Warming Conference Hit By Blizzard

To add to the chaos of the so-called Climate Conference, the site of this idiocy just got hit with a huge blizzard as the delegates are pontificating over global warming!

World leaders flying into Copenhagen today to discuss a solution to global warming will first face freezing weather as a blizzard dumped 10 centimeters (4 inches) of snow on the Danish capital overnight.

    “Temperatures will stay low at least the next three days,” Henning Gisseloe, an official at Denmark’s Meteorological Institute, said today by telephone, forecasting more snow in coming days. “There’s a good chance of a white Christmas.” {...}

Denmark has a maritime climate and milder winters than its Scandinavian neighbors. It hasn’t had a white Christmas for 14 years, under the DMI’s definition, and only had seven last century. Temperatures today fell as low as minus 4 Celsius (25 Fahrenheit).

Obama is scheduled to address the delegates tomorrow.

However, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is there already, and trying to rescue things by offering what amounts to a bribe of $100 billion of your tax money to developing countries (or more likely, certain Swiss bank accounts owned by the leaders of those developing countries) in order to get them to come to the conference and sign on some kind of dotted line.

Riddle me this, compadres - If we and the EU sign on to this nonsense and bankrupt our economies in the name of this junk science but countries like India,Mexico, China, and Brazil don't and expand their economies to fill the production gap, does the carbon magically stay within their borders? Or does it spread around the globe? So even if the warmies are correct, what exactly have we gained, except a wealth transfer, a new benighted international bureaucracy and a lot less freedom?

Someone else who's there in Copenhagen is GOP Senator James Inhofe, who has a certain expertise on the fallacy of the global warming religion. He came to let the assembled delegates and hanger ons know that no matter what came out of Clinton's mouth, the chances of it passing the Senate were zero.

Tiger Woods And Elin Nordegren ... D-I-V-O-R-C-E

    http://www.the-planets.com/star-biography/Elin-Nordegren-Biography-4.jpg

ABC news is reporting that Tiger Wood's wife, Elin Nordegren, is seeking a divorce.

She's apparently shopping around for a divorce lawyer.

I had the feeling she was weighing the public humiliation Woods put her through versus the effect on their two kids and what her staying with him would convey to them, and I think she may have ultimately decided that living a lie simply wasn't possible.

The formal announcement will probably come after the holidays, after she's sorted out her options. She's reportedly headed back to Sweden with the kids for awhile, so the Woods family is probably not spending Christmas together.

Ironically, Woods was just named the Athlete of the Decade by The Associated Press, which really bothers me.I'm just old enough to remember when athletes were positive role models for kids and actually stood for something.

In Tiger Woods' case, it appears he's not even a role model for his own kids, let alone anyone else's.

It's a funny thing about that.

During my days in the music biz, I was a single gentleman and lived a somewhat promiscuous life, so I understand the temptations..and they must have been a hundred times as great for someone like Tiger Woods as for someone at my level.

But that's largely adolescent behavior, no matter how old you are or how successful you are, and sooner or later, you are faced with a decision to grow up and become a man.

And ultimately, that means making a commitment to one woman and if you are so blessed, to the family you create together. The true measure of a real man, I think, is to be able have someone love and desire you over time even when they've seen you at your best and most attractive and your worst and least glamorous and the early bloom of youth has faded a bit.

When you find someone like that, most of the other temptations fade away, because if you have any sense at all you realize what you have to lose.

Author/Psychologist Nancy Friday hit on the edges of this in a book she wrote on male sexual fantasies which I believe was subtitled 'the triumph of love over rage.'

In my opinion, compulsive and prolonged sexual promiscuity by either men or women is an underlying and very subtle indication of hostility and lack of respect towards the opposite sex, because it involves turning a human being into a commodity. At least that's how I see it.

Iran Tests Advanced Solid Fuel Missile

While the oxygen of the news cycle is being sucked up by the Copenhagen farce and teh ObamaCare debate, our enemies are not sleeping:

Wednesday's test was for the latest version of Iran's longest-range missile, the Sajjil-2, with a range of about 1,200 miles (2,000 kilometers). That range places Israel, Iran's sworn enemy, well within reach, as well as U.S. bases in the Gulf region and parts of southeastern Europe.

The two-stage Sajjil-2 and is powered entirely by solid-fuel while the older, long-range Shahab-3 missile uses a combination of solid and liquid fuel in its most advanced form.

A solid fuel base is the sign of a more advanced rocket with better accuracy, a longer range and a bigger payload. They also can be fueled in advance, unlike rockets using liquid fuel, which need a lead time to be launched once th edecision s made to use them.

Aside from bringing Israel, Europe and US bases in places like Iraq and the Persian Gulf within range, the missiles could also target the Saudi,Kuwaiti and UAE oil fields.

It's well past time these cockroaches were dealt with. They're getting dangerous.

In a related item, the House just passed the Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act by 412-12. Voting against were Tammy Baldwin(D-WI), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), John Conyers,(D-MI), John Duncan (R-TN), Jeff Flake (R- AZ), Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), Dennis Kucinich( D-OH), Stephen Lynch (D-MA), Jim McDermott (D-WA), Gwen Moore (D-WI), Ron Paul ( R-TX) and Pete Stark ( D-CA).

Birds of a feather E.B. Johnson (D-TX), Caroline Cheeks Kilpatrick (D-MI),Barbera Lee (D-CA) and Maxine Waters (D-CA)voted 'present'.

All of these Democrats are basically on the Far Left and have a peculiar attitude when it comes to Israel in common. The three Republicans are basically Ron Paul types.

The bill frankly, is nothing much. It merely allows Barack Obama to implement unilateral American sanctions of refined petroleum products on Iran if he feels it's necessary. But at least it's something.

The bill still has to go through the Senate, which has a lot of other things on its mind at present and then Obama has to sign it....after which he has to make a decision whether to do anything with it.

Meanwhile, the Mullah's centrifuges keep turning.

    Watching Heads Explode...

I have to admit, watching the Angry Left go way crazy over the happenings (or should I say, non-happenings) in the Senate on ObamaCare has been wildly amusing, to say the least. Here are a few hilarious yet representative samples, so you don't have to soil yourself by actually going there. The links are just for reference purposes...and I left the spelling, typos, and yes, the quaint profanities intact.

Screw the White House – they’re screwing us!

Dr. D and JH are absolutely correct – Kill the Bill!

If Obama, his staff and the senate get their way with this piece of shit bill more Americans will die for lack of affordable health insurance and/or affordable health care.

FYI – Remember when Biden said Obama was going to be tested? Well here it is. We have to show Obama we’re not chumps – Calling it HCR doesn’t make it HCR no matter how he and his administration try to spin it….

At least Lieberman did us the favor of ripping off the masks of these assholes.

If they can’t do the right thing for the American people by stopping a little weasel like Lieberman, then they don’t deserve to have power and do deserve to lose big time next year.

Lieberman did us a favor by taking away every little scrap of cover that House and Senate Dems and Obama would have had to call what they’re passing “reform” without the American people laughing at them.

So, thanks, Joe. You’re a dick, but we have to thank you for making it all the easier for us to challenge failed Democrats in the House and Senate as we work to get more progressive Democrats (i.e. real Democrats) elected.

Jane is right that this is all Rahm. But, it is Obama, too. He’s the one who chose Rahm to be hsi chief of staff. It’s apparent that Obama doesn’t have the balls or intelligence to find a way to help ordniary Americans. He is playing the game of rethugicans vs. demochickens, and hoping that by some miracle, demochickens will be elected the next term. This is politics as usual. Corporaations get all they want, and ordinary Americans can either accept it or move to Canada.
We have to do something to turn this around. Jane is right to take aim at Rahm. We will have to take aim at everybody who has played along – inclusing all demochikens who have killed any hope that ordinary Americans have had. This is not the hope that I can believe in – it is inexorable moving toward oligarchy, commonly known as fascism.

The WH thinks they can spin this disaster of a bill as a major step forward. The WH is delusional. What the WH fails to understand is that the people were fired up & ready to fight for change … we had such hope when we elected Obama.

This is not the change I was fired up for. Whats worse for the Dems, is that the WH really thinks the base and all the people who fought to elect Obama will accept this & eventually come around once Obama gives another beautiful speech. Enough with the speeches. How about some action????

I got fooled by Obama, once; I wont get fooled again. And, Im not happy to say it. So, will I vote Republican IN 2010? NO. NEVER. I just wont vote IN 2010. And, I think the Republicans will make big gains in 2010. And, then, Obama can spend the rest of his term catering more & more to Lieberman and the others like him.

This is not the change I believe in.

HELL NO!! there is no case for passing this piece of crap. This is a GIGANTIC payday for insurance companies and drug companies and does nothing to control costs. The 30 million it will insure??? does that count healthy people who will be FORCED To buy a crappy policy from private insurers?

The few good things in this bill could be passed separately. THIS IS NOT HEALTHCARE REFORM its not even insurance reform.

The Obama administration has shat upon all progressives who worked hard and donated money to get him elected. They freely get up there and criticize Howard Dean, but THANK Joe Leiberman…WTF?? I could not be more discourage by wasting my efforts to get this weakling elected.

I will be among the millions of Democrats sitting out the 2010 elections, because this and the bank bailout simply prove to me once and for all the people who really run this country are the banks and huge corporations, it does not matter who is president, or who is in congress.

Awwww...did you all fall out of love with your Idol? Did Prez Zero let you down? There there, Leftards...Obama let everybody down. Just like I told you he would.

There are three common threads on these sites....hatred ( and I mean violent, spittle soaked HATRED) for Rahm Emanuel and Joe Lieberman, disgust and disillusionment with Prez Zero and vows not to send any more money or votes the Democrat's way.

There's even talk of a third party, or at least of getting rid of all the Blue Dogs and moderate Dems in favor of 'real Democrats.'

The funny thing is, these people get one thing right. The current emasculated Senate Bill does massage the big insurance companies quite a bit while essentially keeping Prez Zero's corrupt deal with Big Pharma intact. So there's certainly no reason to pass it.

What Obama is doing is frantically working on cobbling something together to make himself look good, just so he can say he 'passed health care reform' in 2012 and move on to other matters. In the end,it will be like all his other 'accomplishments'...all sizzle and no steak. Or, as the Left was fond of repeating about his predecessor, all hat and no cattle.

Kill the bill indeed. it's nice to see the country so united. And best wishes to these fine Progressives in their efforts on moving the Democrats even further to the Left than they already are. Their ideas deserve to be evaluated and voted on by the Electorate.
