Watcher's Council Nominations,3/12/08

Every week, the Watcher's Council members nominate two posts each, one from the Council members and one from outside for consideration by the whole Council. The complete list of this week's Council nominations can be found at the site of our fearless leader, the infamous Watcher of Weasels

Do take the time and check out the non-Council links..they are always rewarding.

Here's this week's lineup...and it's a great crop as always:

Torture : Joshuapundit - President Bush vetoed a bill that passed by a very slim majority in Congress that would have outlawed waterboarding and other so-called 'harsh interrogation techniques' the Angry Left persists in calling torture.

While I agree with the president in this instance, but probably not for the reason you'd think. And I also think a good place to start in considering whether or not this is a good idea is to look at what torture actually is and what it isn't, as well as to take a good look at possibly far more effective techniques that we're mostly not using at all. To find out more, inquire within...

Change & The Cessation of British History: Wolf Howling - GW writes about a typical ploy by the Left, disregarding the views of the people or even their own pledged word 'for the greater good'. In this case, he's talking about Britain's Labour party, who are doing an end run around their own electorate to surrender British sovereignty to the EU.

The Pittsburgh Airport Incident :Rhymes With Right - Greg and his wife were subjected to some fairly brutal treatment at the hands of a TSA operative. Not much to say here, except that while many of these people try to do their jobs correctly a number of them are the same sort of people who staff the DMV and the post office..and they're by no means professional security personnel or really professional anything else. Here's hoping Greg and his spouse are able to get some redress, or at least an apology for this.

Remember when flying used to be fun?

Whaaat? An Anti-Jihad Comicbook? NOOO!! :The Colossus of Rhodey - Hube aptly points out that unlike the last war, a lot of comic artists aren't doing their bit this time around.

AP Does It Again :Done With Mirrors - Callimachus shows us yet another instance of the AP cooking facts and manipulating language to push a political agenda masquerading as journalism.

A Long Ten Minutes :Soccer Dad - one of the things that frequently doesn't get realized about Israel is that it's a very small and egalitarian country, where people tend to know one another and call each other by their first names, and the fact that they're surrounded by genocidal maniacs undoubtedly intensifies that tendency. Here, Soccer Dad illustrates that quality as he recounts a personal story coming from the barbaric murder of eight Israelis boys in Jerusalem's Mercaz Harav Yeshiva by a Palestinian terrorist.

Biology Will Have Its Way *UPDATE* :Bookworm Room - Ms. Bookworm
writes about the degradation of American popular culture and its disproportionate effect on young women.

Californichusetts :Big Lizards - Daffyd writes about how the California legislature is planning on happily disenfranchising disenfranchising the voters of the state in order tobriong about gay marriage.

Exposing Washington's Wasteful Ways: Where's PigFoot? :The Education Wonks - EdWonk gives us another well-delivered smackdown of Congressman John Murtha. Gosh!

Bush Wields a Necessary Veto :Cheat Seeking Missiles - Laer has a nice piece this week on the Bush veto of the bill I mentioned above.

The Cook County Fiscal Mess :The Glittering Eye - Dave looks at his local government and reflects on how the socialists and kleptocrats that control it are spending it into bankruptcy to buy votes.

Obama-Rezko and Media Ignorance of "The Chicago Way": Right Wing Nut House - Rick has a nice piece about something I wrote about a while ago..the Chosen One's rather checkered history as a typical Chicago pol.

Enjoy!
