House Slates ObamaCare Repeal Vote For January 12th

The new Republican-led Congress has set January 12th as the date to vote on legislation repealing ObamaCare.

"Obamacare is a job-killer for businesses small and large, and the top priority for House Republicans is going to be to cut spending and grow the economy and jobs," Brad Dayspring, spokesman for incoming House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), said in a statement.

This is likely going to be symbolic in nature, since the Senate Democrats, led by Harry Reid have already sent a letter to incoming Speaker John Boehner warning him that they would block any repeal. And even if they didn't President Obama would certainly break out his veto pen. But as a first step, it's still important.

It once again puts Democrats on record as supporting this deeply flawed and unpopular legislation, and it essentially sets out a goal for the future.

And it is a lead in to attacking the bill bit by bit by tightening the purse strings on the funding that would need to be allocated to the Department of Health and Human Services and other agencies to fund the legislation's implementation.

That's when the showdown will begin.
