'Arab Democracy'- Banned Muslim Brotherhood Leader Qaradiwi Returns to Egypt
Ah, the wonders of Arab Democracy! After being banned from entering Egypt for 30 years, the new Egyptian junta allowed Muslim Brotherhood leader , Muslim Brotherhood leader Yusuf al-Qaradawi to return to Egypt Friday to lead prayers in Tahrir Square in Cairo.
Yusuf al-Qaradawi is the spiritual leader of the movement, who's been living in Qatar and has a popular talk show,ash-Shariah wal-Hayat ("Shariah and Life") on al-Jazeera which has an estimated audience of 20-30 million..
He's been banned from traveling to the US and much of Europe for very good reasons. He favors a world-wide Islamist caliphate under sharia law, including the beating of 'disobediant' women, female genital mutilation , death for homosexuals and apostates.
Qaradiwi is also a classic Islamist Jew hater who has called for genocide against Israel and a second Holocaust. In one of his sermons, he asked God "to kill the Jewish Zionists, every last one of them."
In another sermon on al-Jazeera ( what, you thought they were a news station?) he said "Throughout history, Allah has imposed upon the [Jews] people who would punish them for their corruption. The last punishment was carried out by [Adolf] Hitler. G-d willing, this time it will be the believers."
His return in good standing to Egypt after 30 years has some similarity to the return of the Ayatollah Khomeini to Iran, and will doubtless energize the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood forces there.
In his sermon to the massive crowds in Tahrir Square, Qaradiwi urged the army officers temporarily ruling Egypt to hand power to a civil government that would establish an Islamist state, and to depose former Mubarak cronies in the government.
“Don’t let anyone steal this revolution from you – those hypocrites who will put on a new face that suits them,” he said. “The revolution isn’t over. It has just started to build Egypt… guard your revolution.”
He called for the Egyptian people go out and conquer 'Al Aqsa' ( AKA Jerusalem to most of us) for Egypt to open the Egyptian-Gaza Strip border to "our brothers," Hamas. And to abrogate the Israel-Egypt peace treaty. The sermon was broadcast on Egyptian state television.
He also called for the Egyptian workers to end their strikes, something the military junta was probably happy with. Their rationale for inviting Qaradiwi back into the country was to have him calm things down and contribute to the junta's tacit acceptance - for now, at least- by the Muslim Brotherhood.
There was a stunning piece in the Oregonian the other day...They call it "Fact Checking." More like opinion checking. Anyway, they were saying that Glenn Beck had it all wrong about the Muslin Brotherhood. I didn't get to hear what Beck said having cut cable TV, but the gist of it was Beck explained what they were and why they are dangerous in Egypt. The fact checkers excused it away saying the people he quoted don't speak for the organization and that there are varying opinions, etc. They posted "False" for their "Fact Check", displaying it in a little meter. These useful idiots are really dangerous...Isn't the Muslim Brotherhood the parent company of Hamas? Or did I miss something...
ReplyDeleteYes they are. And that's not all. Read this, it may answer a few questions.
