New Mexico Democrat Senator Jeff Bingaman To Announce Retirement

New Mexico Democrat Jeff Bingaman will announce to day that he will not seek re-election in 2012.

Bingaman is the fourth Democratic (or Democratic caucus member) Senator to announce that he will not run for re-election in 2012, joining Senators Jim Webb (Va.), Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Kent Conrad (N.D.).

Two GOP Senators have announced their retirement, Senators Jon Kyl (Ariz.) and Kay Bailey Hutchison (Texas) but unlike the Democrat retirees they are in solid Red states where it's unlikely the seats will change parties. Both Webb and Conrad are likely to be replaced by Republicans.

Bingaman could very well be as well. My personal choice would be former COngresswoman Heather Wilson, and Congressman Steve Pearce would also be a strong candidate.

The country is in serious trouble. The current administration is borrowing and printing money and giving it to his pals and voters. The situation is so dire that at this point even if we did everything right we will face a collapse. The only real benefit to doing the fiscally correct thing at this point is the collapse will happen but the recovery will follow. Whereas doing more of Obama's tax and spend will give us a loooong depression. So what lawmaker in his rignt mind want to ride this bucking bronco into the history book??? Any intelligent Democrat in congress is leaving this sinking ship. By leaving now they will be above the fray when the very worst happens. Most congressmen make millions after they leave congress (most make millions in congress too) so why not leave???
