Forum: Is President Obama's New 'My Brother's Keeper' Initiative Directed Towards Young Men Of 'Color' Racist?

Every week on Monday morning , the Council and our invited guests weigh in at the Watcher's Forum, short takes on a major issue of the day, the culture, or daily living. This week's question: Is President Obama's New 'My Brother's Keeper' Initiative Directed Towards Young Men Of 'Color' Racist?

AskMarion: Yes, as with everything this administration does this program, 'My Brother's Keeper', is a political move, another move toward divide and conquer as well as being racist!  ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ should be focused on helping all young men of all colors that need it, not just young Black and Latino men.  Barack Obama is supposed to be president of the entire United States, but in almost every situation or program this administration manages to turn it into a debate on racism or inequality.  We only have to look at decision after decision made by Holder’s DOJ on behalf of or in conjunction with the White House to see the slant of this administration. ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ is the kind of program presidents start and sponsor after they leave the White House.

And if you listen to the power behind the thrown, Valerie Jarrett, on her appearance on the Factor with Bill O’Reilly (see video below) it is pretty obvious that this is just another political diversion for the administration with underlying tones to further their long-term agenda..  If they were really interested in promoting this program, Jarrett would have jumped at O’Reilly’s invitation for Michelle Obama to appear on the Factor to spread the word.

But if we really dig deep, this program is nothing new and may actually be another attempt at building and promoting an ‘Obama Youth’ Program that has been a focus of Michelle Obama and Valerie Jarrett’s from the beginning.  It is the perfect way to bring along the next generation of Progressives who will think along this administration’s lines and continue their work.  Remember, Michelle Obama talked about building an Obama Youth program back in 2008 and New York’s Mayor Bloomberg and George Soros Committed $60-Million to a Program for Minority Youths (sounds good on surface but it’s really brainwashing new robots) just as the Communist Party USA endorsed Obama in 2011.  Enlisting the youth of a nation by winning their hearts and minds through youth organizations is a popular method used by all dictators and those who wish to grab power.  One must only take a good look at Hitler’s Germany. Creating division through racism, sexism, or against any group, including between the haves and have-nots is a tool that has been used throughout the ages.

So with this administration’s track record... at best, color me very skeptical!

As for Bill O’Reilly’s participation in all this, Bill (someone I often disagree with) is a great advocate for children and programs for youth and in my opinion he became involved out of sincere concern for young people, plus he got a much wanted interview, but he is being used by the administration. Perhaps he needs to have for a reality check phone call with his friend Glenn Beck?!?

The Glittering Eye: I don't think so. I think that young black men have distinctive problems that, sadly, aren't being addressed as they should. As evidence consider the unconscionably high unemployment rate among young black males. Any organization that seeks to help young black men is to the good in my view.

I could have other reservations about the initiative. We'll just have to see how it develops.

JoshuaPundit: Of course it's racist. It specifically excludes white and Asians by design. There are plenty of poor and disadvantaged members of those groups and the president could very easily have included them. He chose not to, simply for the politics. Why else were Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis' parents there?

I also found the president's remarks transforming his privileged and monied background into something far different to be ludicrous.

This was a response to criticism of President Obama from certain members of the black community that he wasn't 'doing enough' for them. The initiative is designed to give the white men who sit on the boards of certain foundations an oportunity to gain favor with this president for the corporations they represent by kicking in a great deal of money (a chunk of which will go into President Obama's PAC/slush fund) and providing some affirmative action jobs to mostly unqualified young blacks and Hispanics.

The president, oddly enough has embraced the racism he claims is aimed towards blacks, since he's essentially saying that young men of color' are incapable of success without special pleading and set asides based on their race. That is ridiculous on its face, as a number of black and Hispanic Americans have proven. The real problem that needs to be addressed is not race, but the dysfunctional aspects of black culture...but doing that would alienate the president's Hollywood friends and cut into the parties he enjoys. Besides, it's both convenient and lucrative to blame someone else.

The Razor: Honestly after 5 years of Obama’s shtick I don’t know what it and what’s not racist anymore. He’s got the same color skin as many African-Americans but I don’t think many American blacks attended private schools in Hawaii or grew up in Indonesia. Ditto becoming constitutional law professors at Ivy League Schools. I’d hazard a guess that your average southern redneck has a better understanding of black culture and the challenges facing African-American men today than he does, but the mere fact that I’m willing to challenge any policy that comes out of that man’s inner circle makes me racist in the eyes of some. Is it 2017 yet?

The Independent Sentinel: The Brother's Keeper program is another affirmative action program. It is a form of segregation and it does an end-run around the Supreme Court decision which struck down affirmative action. The idea could be a good one if it included poor whites. Why only blacks and Hispanics?

Racism is the belief that "all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races."

The Brother's Keeper program doesn't do that but what it does do is single races out for special treatment and benefits not afforded another race. It is not racist, it is unequal treatment of races.

Why couldn't Mr. Obama set this program up for all poor youths? The answer is simple. Everything he does is politically motivated. He wants to cater to his minority base. One black leader said, He (Mr. Obama) is finally doing something for blacks.

It's politics - bad politics. It divides the races. It separates us.
