Oh, Canada...

There is a nobility to the task of being an honor guard at a memorial to the fallen.It is a way to remember the sacrifice of those whom came before, of those who were willing to die so that future generations could live.

 

One of those men was Cpl. Nathan Cirillo. He was one of three soldiers guarding Canada's War memorial in Ottawa when he was shot down by a craven jihadi, a Canadian named Michael Zehaf-Bibeau who converted to Islam.

 

After murdering Cpl. Cirillo, he ran into the Canadian Parliament where he was eventually gunned down.

And for those who favor gun confiscation, members of Parliament said they owed their lives to Kevin Vickers, who fatally shot Zehaf-Bibeau just outside the caucus rooms where lawmakers were barricading themselves.

This is the second recent attack on Canada's soldiers by local Muslims. Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent. a 28-year veteran was struck and killed and a second soldier injured by a Canadian jihadi, Martin “Ahmad” Rouleau in Quebec who ran into them with his car just two days ago.

 

The Islamic State has called on Muslims to launch attacks in Western countries that have joined the U.S.-led coalition to combat them.

The stories of both Zehaf-Bibeau and Rouleau bear striking similarities. Both were converts to Islam and known to Canada's counter terrorism forces. Both were a product of radical Imams in Saudi-funded mosques and both had their passports revoked after it became known they had been in contact with ISIS, yet they were still allowed to roam free.

Canada, the U.S., and other countries are going to have to take a serious look at what they've been allowing to occur in their countries. These will not be the last attacks.

 

Canada's PM Stephen Harper, as usual, rose to the occasion. Speaking to the nation on television, he said simply that the attacks were an attempt to intimidate Canada. "Let there be no mistake", he said. "We will not be intimidated. Canada will never be intimidated."

Unfortunately, own President Barack Obama lacked that insight, referring to the attacks as 'senseless violence.'

There was nothing senseless about it. Terrorism doesn't come out of nowhere, nor is it mindless. It is a tactic designed to achieve certain goals, no more no less. Only someone willfully blind or deliberately dissembling would think otherwise.

I doubt PM Harper is in either of those two categories, and I think Canada's eyes have been opened.

There is one other small silver lining here. As Cpl. Cirillo lay dying, not only did his two comrades stand by him, but Margaret Lerhe, a nurse on her way to work at the Elizabeth Bruyere Hospital and Barbara Winters, a lawyer and a former member of the Canadian Forces Naval Reserve heard the gunshots and ran towards them instead of away from them and joined the two soldiers to work as a team in desperately trying to keep Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, who was still conscious alive.

Aside from trying to staunch the bleeding with compresses, they comforted him, telling him how proud they were of him, how brave he was and how loved.

In the end he died in their arms, but not before taking that final bit of comfort with him as he left this earth.

If a warrior has to die, could there be a better way to make the passage?

 

Toronto Star Retracts Bogus Claim That Most Of Gaza Dead Are Women And Children

 

The Toronto Star finally published a retraction to as bogus claim in one of its articles that the majority of dead in Gaza were women and children.

The article in question was written by Canadian 'Palestine' shill  Dr. Izzeldine Abuelaish on July 30th who wrote, ”At the moment of writing this article, some 1,359 Palestinians have lost their lives in the current conflict with Israel, mostly women and children, and some 7,677 have been severely wounded.”

Watchdog group Honest Reporting Canada called out this nonsense and also questioned Abuelaish’s credibility, after which The Star added the following notice to the column on its website:

“Clarification: Aug. 5, 2015: This article was edited from a previous version that said the Palestinians killed in Gaza were ‘mostly’ women and children. In fact, as now stated, it was ‘many’ women and children killed. According to the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, as of July 31, 2014, a reported 345 children and 186 women were among 1,432 dead, 85 per cent of them civilians. Among the civilian casualties, 43.5 per cent were women and children. Among the total number of Palestinians killed, 39.5 per cent were women and children.”

Of course, those figures (from the so-called Palestinian Centre for Human Rights) are inflated as well. Something like 20-30 people per day die in Gaza of natural causes like old age, or maybe getting on the wrong side of a Hamas leader, but those will be included as 'war casualties'. And the percentage of civilians? Some other news sources have had something to say about that, even the BBC.

 

Al Jazeera, quoted the Hamas controlled Gaza Health Ministry on July 26 that 315 children and 166 females were among 1,361 dead and 6,780 injured in the Gaza Strip. The New York Times quoting the same Hamas controlled source reported on Aug. 5 that, “According to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 34 percent of those killed in Gaza from July 6-31 were children, women, elderly or female victims of an unknown age… since July 6: 429 under age 18, 79 over 60, 243 women.”

Meanwhile, the BBC cited a report from the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights that said that as of Aug. 6, 1,843 Palestinians had been killed since the start of Operation Protective Edge. Among the civilians, more than three times as many men were killed as women, according to the UN report.

Considering that Hamas don't exactly wear uniforms, how exactly does one tell combatants from civilians? And where exactly in the UN HCHR getting it's data? From that same Gaza Health Ministry? From UNRWA? And how many of these people were forced human shields, forbidden to leave an area by Hamas after the Israelis dropped leaflets and warned people to evacuate?

At any rate, I'm glad to see that the Star maintains at least a semblance of journalistic integrity.

 

Justice - Canadian Court Seizes Iranian Assets To Compensate Terrorism Victims

The U.S.may have felt like it was 'unable' to enforce legal judgments against Iran for terrorist activities, but Canada is refreshingly different.

An Ontario court has ordered the seizure of more than $7 million in Iranian assets to compensate American victims of Iran-sponsored terrorism for judgments they received in American courts. The judgments were the result of court verdicts in America against Iran for the regime's role in training, arming and financing Hamas and Hezbollah.

The American victims and their families were previously awarded damages in US courts but were not allowed collect from any Iranian government assets in the United States. While lawsuits against countries like Iran that sponsor terrorism have been made possible by the "terrorism exception" Congress added to the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, the U.S. State Department and the Department of Justice routinely attempt to block victims from collecting on the grounds that allowing the assets to be taken "can have a significant, detrimental impact on the conduct of our foreign relations" . They have successfully blocked victims of Iranian backed terrorism from collecting judgments in a number of cases.

However, many countries, including Canada have reciprocity treaties which allow judgments in one country to be valid in another. And Canada's 2012 Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act. The law strips state immunity in civil lawsuits from countries deemed to be “supporting terrorism.”

The Canadian courts ordered one bank account worth $1.47 million controlled by an Iranian diplomat, and another with a balance of $511,000 controlled by Iran’s charge d’affaires in Ottawa to be seized when evidence established that the funds were actually controlled by the Iranian government.

And two building labeled as 'cultural centers', one in Toronto and one in Ottawa with a combined estimated value of over $5 million will also be sold with vthe proceeds going to the defendants. Bioth building are actually owned by a front group for Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

The plaintiffs are Edward Tracy and the family of Joseph Cicippio. Both men were captured and held hostage in Beirut from 1986 to 1991 and both got legal judgments in U.S. courts that they were prevented from collecting against Iranian assets in America. Several other plaintiff including a Canadian dentist who was badly wounded by a Hamas terrorist will also share in the award due to a side deal worked out between the lawyers.

Iran did not contest the case, but the regime responded in the usual vicious fashion against the ruling.

Kudos to Canada for having the courage to rule on the side of justice and decency. Hopefully Canada will set the example for other countries to do the same, including my own.

Canadian PM Harper’s Moving Pro-Israel Speech Brings The Jew Haters Out

After Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's moving speech in Israel, it didn't take long for the haters to crawl out from under their rocks.

The above cartoon was penned by “Aislin,” the pen name of The Montreal Gazette editorial cartoonist Christopher Terry Mosher and the implications are obvious, that PM Harper and the Canadian Government are lackeys 'controlled by the Jews'.

This is the sort of stuff (and far worse) that runs routinely in the Arab world, usually with a hook-nosed stereotypical Evil Jew as a puppeteer,animal trainer, or something of that ilk.

Nor, as one of my Canadian readers informs me is it the first time Christopher Terry Mosher has given flight to his anti-semitic fantasies.In 1982, during Israel's war in Lebanon against PLO terrorists, he penned a cartoon showing Menachem Begin as a vampire bat with fangs, flying along holding bombs in his “talons” with the caption reading “torah, torah, torah.”

I can guarantee you he never drew a cartoon of Mohammed beheading someone and screaming 'Allahu Akbar!'

As to the foul, traditionally anti-semitic canard of PM Harper being a 'lackey' of the Jews, he made clear that while his love and feelings of friendship for Israel are deep and sincere, it is not a love that's blind, but a partnership based on similar values, goals and aspirations.

But apparently even that is too much for Mosher and people that think like him.

The Maple Leaf And The Mogen Dovid - PM Harper Comes To Israel

 

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is in Israel today on a long-awaited visit to the Holy Land. He and the Canadian government have long been one of the staunchest supporters of Israel in the world, a major change from Canada's stance under the Left wing liberals.

PM Harper first announced the visit at a Jewish National Fund dinner in December, calling Israel “a light of freedom and democracy in what is otherwise a region of darkness” and pledged that the Jewish state “will always have Canada as a friend.”

That will almost certainly be true under Canada's conservative government. PM Harper's press release issued by his office about the trip referred to Israel as the “Jewish State of Israel”, and when a Muslim Brotherhood front, The National Council of Canadian Muslims angrily objected to the inclusion of Toronto Rabbi Daniel Korobkin as part of the Canadian delegation merely because he had spoken at the same event with Pam Geller and Islamic scholar Robert Spencer, Jason MacDonald, the prime minister’s communications director, told them essentially to take a long walk on a short pier:

“We will not take seriously criticism from an organization with documented ties to a terrorist organization such as Hamas,” MacDonald said. “The delegation accompanying the prime minister to the Middle East includes a range of stakeholders from various business, religious and community organizations.”

Rabbi Korobkin, by the way, is the senior rabbi at Beth Avraham Yoseph Congregation, the largest Orthodox congregation in Canada, and is a former regional vice-president of the Rabbinical Council of America.

When PM Harper addressed the Israeli Knesset, his message was crystal clear...that Canada supports Israel because it is both morally and strategically right, denounced 'antri-Zionism' and said that ‘Through fire and water, Canada will stand with you.’

He praised both the Canada-Israel free trade agreement and Canada's security cooperation with Israel.

Part of this comes from PM Harper's solid Christian faith, and part of it simply from what he refers to as a Canadian tradition, "to do something for no reason other than it is right even when no immediate reward for, or threat to, ourselves is evident."

And on top of that, he remains balanced, committed to the establishment of a Palestinian state, but as he put it, “I believe, we share with Israel a sincere hope that the Palestinian people and their leaders… will choose a viable, democratic, Palestinian state, committed to living peacefully alongside the Jewish state of Israel.

“As you, Prime Minister [Netanyahu], have said, when Palestinians make peace with Israel, Israel will not be the last country to welcome a Palestinian state as a new member of the United Nations — it will be the first.

“Sadly, we have yet to reach that point.

“But, when that day comes, and come it must, I can tell you that Israel may be the first to welcome a sovereign Palestinian state, but Canada will be right behind you."

PM Harper received a standing ovation from Israeli PM Netanyahu and the entire Knesset..except for the Arab members, who briefly heckled the speech and then walked out.

In visiting Ramallah and speaking with the Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, he likewise urged him to make peace with what he called 'the Jewish State of Israel', something Abbas has said repeatedly he will never do. Therein, of course, lies the problem.

But there's no doubt that the relationship between Israel and Canada is strong and will become st4ronger, to the benefit of both nations.

Jihad Thwarted In Canada

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested Chiheb Esseghaier, 30, of Montreal, and Raed Jaser, 35, of Toronto in what RCMP Commissioner James Malizia described as an al-Qaeda linked plan to derail a Canadian passenger train.Neither are Canadian citizens.

The plot involved a VIA train route in the Toronto area, the Canadian equivalent of America's Amtrak passenger trains.

Malizia linked the pair to al-Qaeda factions located in Iran.

The plot apparently has no links to the Boston bombing, and the RCMP expects to make more arrests.

One positive note is that Malizia credited Canadian Muslims with tips that lead to the thwarting of the planned attack, which had th epotential to kill and injure a large number of people.

Toronto War Memorial Defaced: 'Canada Will Burn, Praise Allah'

November 11th is Remembrance Day in Canada.

In recognition of that, someone decided to deface a memorial honoring Canada's veterans that was located in Toronto's Coronation Park by writing 'Canada will burn, praise Allah' in black marker on it:

“This is an identifiable group,” Det. Anthony Williams told reporters at the scene Monday. “The veterans should be respected. That’s a total disrespect for our sworn members and military members who have made the ultimate sacrifice.”

At the Remembrance Day ceremony at Old City Hall Sunday morning, anti-war protesters were heard chanting during the two minutes of silence.

Williams said he couldn’t speculate whether the vandalism was protest-related.

“I can’t speculate as to what their motivation is, but if they did this on Nov. 10 or 11 … someone is looking for an opportunity to draw attention to themselves,” he said.

City cleaners scrubbed the black letters off the memorial.

George Murphy, 72, whose father fought in the Battle of Monte Cassino and in Normandy during the Second World War, teared up looking at the monument.

“I think it’s terrible to see them destroy what these veterans have done for us,” he said. “It’s like stepping on them. These people wanted to protect our lives. My father would be very upset over this.”

Local police are talking about this as a 'hate crime' in accordance with Canada's laws on the subject.I'm personally betting that if Muslims are involved, they'll likely keep the charges to vandalism...but we'll see what develops.

Sgt. Ist Class Speers' Killer Leaves Gitmo

Sergeant Ist Class(SFC) Christopher Speers was an Army medic who was killed in a firefight in Khost Province, Afghanistan when a hand grenade was thrown at him by one Omar Khadr, a fifteeen-year-old Canadian jihadi of Egyptian background.

Ironically, Khadr's life was only saved because SFC Speers' fellow medics treated him.

Khadr, whose father was a top al-Qaeda figure was sent to Guantamano, where aside from providing a fair amount of valuable intelligence  he confessed to killing Speer among other crimes. After Khadr  pleaded guilty to murder, attempted murder, providing material support for terrorism, spying and conspiracy, he was sentenced to - wait for it - eight years, with no credit for time served.

Eight years.

As part of the Obama Administration's drive to close Guantamano no matter what, Khadr is now being transferred to his country of citizenship, Canada, where he will serve the rest of his sentence at Millhaven Prison in Bath, Ontario, about 130 miles east of Toronto.

Unlike a number of countries I could mention, the Canadians can be trusted to keep Khadr in jail , at least until his sentence is up in spite of the usual leftist agitation. After he's freed, he'll probably be released and go back to fighting the jihad against the very people who showed him mercy.

On the other hand, SFC Speers and his loved ones received  a life sentence with no chance of parole at the hands of Omar Khadr.

Remember this when you wonder, 'why don't the Muslims respect us?'

Today is Canada Day, when our long time neighbors and allies to the north celebrate their national day..Canada's birthday, if you will.It commemorates the joining of the colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces on July 1, 1867, called Canada.It's a day when all Canadians celebrate Canada as a free country.

Obama Alienates Canada And Mexico At Summit - And It's Going To Cost Us A Lot Of Money

Aside from the unprecedented occurrence of flapping his mouth and threatening the Supreme Court about a matter pending before the justices, President Obama was also busy at a recent summit alienating our two closest neighbors.

As usual, the president's lackeys in the media ignored this, but the Mexican and Canadian press reported the real story. And as you'll see, Canada's PM Stephen Harper, a staunch U.S. ally (or at least he used to be) was unusually blunt.

Normally, such summits are relatively friendly affairs dealing with trade issues that are settled more or less amicably and end with the usual platitudes and photo-ops. Not this time.

Mexico's President Calderon is already not a fan of the president because of Fast and Furious, which illegally supplied arms to the drug cartels strangling Mexico and resulted in over 200 murders of Mexican nationals. My sources tell me that President Calderon asked some pointed questions about what the U.S. was doing to investigate this, punish the officials responsible and clean up the mess President Obama's justice department created, and that the answers were less than satisfactory.

This puts Calderon in a terrible position politically as the Mexican public is asking him the same questions. El Universal, and Reforma, two of Mexico's top papers have led the charge on this one.

Our situation with Canada is even worse. Canada's National Post quoted former Canadian diplomat Colin Robertson as saying the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and our alliance with Canada is "on life support."

It's not a well known fact to most Americans, but our biggest supplier of foreign oil is not the Middle East, but Canada.

Up until recently, the Canadians supplying us with oil at lower than market prices because of the NAFTA agreement. American companies actually refined some of the Canadian oil and exported it overseas at below market price, which the Canadians put up with because we had the refineries and they didn't, and besides..it was between friends and there were compensations on things like lumber and items American companies manufactured.

That changed when President Obama took office. He and PM Stephen Harper never quite hit it off that well anyway, partly because President Obama's policies on Afghanistan where Canadian troops are in combat and partly because of disagreements on Israel, a country PM Harper is a great supporter of.

But the rift widened greatly when President Obama repeatedly blocked Canada and Mexico's attempts to joint a lucrative eight-way free trade agreement called the Trans-Pacific Partnership, an alliance of the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Peru, Chile, and Singapore.

And it exploded when President Obama rejected the Keystone Pipeline.

The Canadians had patiently waited for President Obama to make a decision to allow what would have been an economic plus for both countries, creating jobs and allowing the Canadians to benefit by shipping more oil that way.

President Obama's farcical no on the pipe line was a wake up call for the Canadians:

In a public one-on-one interview here with Jane Harman, head of the Wilson Centre think-tank, Harper said Obama's rejection of the controversial pipeline -- even temporarily -- stressed Canada's need to find other buyers for oilsands crude.

And that wouldn't change even if the president's mind did.

"Look, the very fact that a 'no' could even be said underscores to our country that we must diversify our energy export markets," Harper told Harman in front of a live audience of businesspeople, scholars, diplomats, and journalists.

As I previously reported on these pages, the Canadians finslly got sick and tired of Obama's dithering, sold the oil contracts to the Chinese and rerouted the oil to Vancouver.

And not only isn't that that decision going to change, but as the Winnipeg Free Press is reporting, PM Harper is now saying that as a consequence of our president's actions, American consumers will be paying for Canadian oil in the future at market rates:

Here's some quotes from an interview on the matter PM Harper did at the Wilson Center.

Harper: Now, in fairness though I've got to say that Canada's interests here are a little bit different. And particularly, I might as well be frank, particularly in light of the...of the interim decision at least on Keystone. What it really has highlighted for Canada is that our issue when it comes to energy and energy security is not North American self-sufficiency. Our energy [issue] is the necessity of diversifying our energy export markets. We can not be, as a country, in a situation where really our one, and in many cases almost only, energy partner could say no to our energy products. We just cannot be in that kind of position.

And the truth of the matter is that, when it comes to oil in particular, we do face a significant discount on the marketplace because of the fact that we're a captive supplier. We have made it clear to the people of Canada, one of our national priorities is to make sure that we have the infrastructure and the capacity to export our energy products outside of North America.

What Harper is saying if you read between the lines is that not only are the Canadians going to diversify whom they sell to but that their no longer going to rely on U.S. refiners. Look for Canada to begin work on its own refineries and oil infrastructure in the near future....probably financed by China.

This president could have okayed the Keystone pipeline with the of a pen. It would have created thousands of jobs, been a boost to U.S. exports and given us a safe and secure source of oil from a friendly neighbor. Instead, thanks to President Obama, we not only lost out on all of this permanently, but angered a loyal, long time ally in the bargain. And this president then had the nerve to blame this fiasco on Republicans, just like he does every other failure he engineers.

This, by the way, is the energy policy Slo-Joe Biden just referred to as 'the very best it's ever been.'

Remember when Barack Obama was running for election? Remember how the line was that he was going to fix things and improve relations with our allies after 'Cowboy' Bush?

President Obama's tactics are pretty clear. None of this is an accident

What he and his far Left vampires want is to choke the American economy. They want an America where gas prices are as high or higher than they are in Europe, where most people are forced into public transportation run by the government and the private cars that exist are abominations like the Volt, where a light bulb costs ten times as much as before and where breaking one calls for an expensive hazmat cleansing rather than just a broom and a dustpan.

And above all, he wants an America where the tax payers are raped by government giveaways to green energy scams run by well connected insiders and Democrat campaign donors.

Because America, in his mind, deserves to be made to pay for our sins.

Absolutely disgraceful.

Stephen Harper And Canada Defeat Obama On Israel At The G8 Summit

You probably already know that Canada was the first country to formally reject President Obama's call for Israel to retreat back to indefensible borders last Thursday.

Today, the Canadians once again had Israel's back at the G8 summit in Europe.

President Obama lobbied the G8 nations intensely to endorse his notion that Israel should be forced back to the pre-1967 lines and to put the endorsement in the final communiqué of the summit.

He failed miserably, primarily because Canada's courageous PM Stephen Harper and the Canadian delegation adamantly refused to have any mention of the pre 1967 lines in the G-8 statement even though some other leaders wanted to include it.

Instead, the communiqué included an explicit endorsement of negotiations between the two parties to settle all outstanding issues, a defeat for the 'Palestinian' attempt sideswipe them and go directly to the UN.And not incidentally, a diplomatic defeat for President Obama.

Obviously President Obama has now backpedaled on any positive aspects of his AIPAC speech and is back to his original rhetoric.Luckily, that kind of cowardice usually falters when confronted by real courage.

Harper And Conservatives Score Huge Victory In Canada

Canadian PM Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party scored a stunning victory yesterday in the Canadian elections.

As you might remember, the elections were triggered by a no confidence vote in Canada's House of Commons engineered in a back room deal by the Liberal Party, the far Left New Democrats and Bloquistes( the French in Quebec), who got together and voted en masse to oust Harper's government and go to elections.

Well, the results are in and apparently Canadians aren't easily fooled. Harper and the Conservatives needed to increase their totals to 155 seats for a majority. They surged and gained 23 seats, giving them a clear majority with 167.

Meanwhile, the Liberals dropped to 34 seats the Bloc Québécois ended up with a mere 4 seats, with Liberal Party leader Michael Ignatieff losing his own Toronto seat.

The Bloc Québécois ended up losing most of its seats to the New Democrats, a Left wing party dominated by the hard Left and the Unions, The NDP won 105 seats, and its leader Jack Layton now becomes the Official Opposition leader.

Harper's campaign slogan was 'A strong, stable, national Conservative majority government' and it resonated with Canadians observing Canada's relatively strong economic performance in a time of global turmoil. Canadians see that Harper's government has pursued policies that have kept the Canadian dollar, the Loonie strong and the economy on solid footing. And of course, they have a superb example of what can happen with the Left in the saddle right next door.

The Conservatives now have an unassailable majority and will be able to proceed with their agenda without obstacles, although Harper was careful to pledge to work with other parties.

"We are intensely aware that we are and we must be the government of all Canadians, including those who did not vote for us," Harper said.

Because it's Canada, the election was a relatively civil affair,although the CBC, Canada's public broadcaster proved that the Left is the same all over by breaking Canada's election blackout law and reporting results before a 10 p.m. EST, or 7 p.m. PST when the polls close. The CBC claims they "experienced a technical error which resulted in early election results from Eastern Canada being broadcast on CBC News Network."

Harper's Conservatives are an excellent example of how the GOP should proceed,offering Americans real, no nonsense policies and responsible conservative government. That's the real hope and change Americans are looking for as the antidote to President Obama's mismanagement.

Canada's Conservative Government Falls In Parliamentary No Confidence Vote

Canada's minority Conservative government led by PM Stephen Harper was defeated in a non-confidence vote today, setting the scene for a federal election in early May.

Legislators in the House of Commons voted by 156-145 to back the motion, which was presented by the main opposition Liberal Party.

Harper's Conservatives have been hanging on because of the disunity of the Liberals, New Democrats and Bloquistes( the French in Quebec). Today, they finally got together and voted en masse to oust Harper's government and go to election.

Being Canadians, their innate decency was very much in evidence, as members of opposing parties who will be campaigning against each other in a few weeks crossed the aisles to hug each other and shake hands after the vote..including Harper and the Liberal's Michael Ignatieff, the man who orchestrated the vote of No Confidence against Harper's government.

One of the apparent issues ( aside from ideology, which was the main one) was the Left's accusation that Harper's government failed to disclose information on how the Canadian government was funding the cost of crime legislation and the purchase of stealth fighter jets.

“We are the people’s representatives,” Mr. Ignatieff said. “When the government spends money, the people have a right to know what it is to be spent on. Parliament does not issue blank cheques.”

“For four months, this House and the Canadian people were being stonewalled by this government and they are being stonewalled still,” Mr. Ignatieff said.

Harper's government has done an admirable job running Canada's economy, especially when you compare it to the previous administration. It remains to be seen whether Canadians want to go back to those days.

Canada Terrorist Cell Busted

The RCMP dismantled a home grown terrorist cell in Ottawa today that was the project of a number of adherents of the Religion of Peace.

The ringleader allegedly attended training camps in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and I'm sure that as usual, there's a Saudi-funded wahabi mosque and a 'moderate' imam in the picture.

The arrests were made now because one of the suspects was preparing to travel abroad.

“These guys were doing more than just talking about terrorism. They were planning it,” a police source said.

This is the biggest counterterrorism operation in Canada since Project Osage, the 2006 arrests of the group Canadians refer to as the Toronto 18 who had attacks planned all over Southern Ontario.

Canada's Muslim leadership was shocked or outraged, depending on whom you talked to.

“It’s sad to hear such news. It’s disturbing,” said Imam Habeeb Alli, secretary of the Canadian Council of Imams. “It’s very disturbing, and I hope the proper wheels of justice will be set in motion to ensure we get to the bottom of the story.”

The Muslim Canadian Congress expressed “shock” at the developments, but also commended RCMP for the operation.

“Thank God these men were stopped before they could carry out their alleged plot,” said vice-president Salma Siddiqui.

Ms. Siddiqui also said that until Canada’s Muslim leadership unequivocally denounces the doctrine of armed jihad, there will be more incidents. Radical figures are becoming “heroes,” Ms. Siddiqui said, and leaders in the Muslim community have a duty to diminish them.

On the other hand, Scarborough imam Aly Hindy — who is on record as being critical of the way the Toronto 18 case was handled - derided the “so-called war against terrorism,” and said that the threat is exaggerated.

“We don’t have this feeling of any danger. We feel very safe,” he said.

I'll just bet he does.

Canadian Mom To Go Free In Honor Killing

In an astounding ruling, Aset Mogomadova will serve no jail time for killing her 14-year-old daughter.

In October, Judge Sal LoVecchio acquitted Magomadova of second-degree murder and found her guilty of manslaughter in the 2007 death of her daughter Aminat. He sentenced her to probation for three years, with the idea that she would return to the court for further sentencing afterwards.

The judge rejected an argument by Crown prosecutors Mac Vomberg and Sarah Bhola, who wanted Magomadova, a Chechen Muslim immigrant to Canada to receive a 12-year prison term. Instead LoVecchio simply suspended her sentence.

The killing occurred in the family home in February, 2007, after Aminat and her mother got into an argument over her conduct.

Magomadova claimed Aminat came at her with a knife, after which she wrapped a prayer scarf around her daughter's neck until Aminat lost consciousness.

A knife was found in the room, but the daughter’s fingerprints were not on it.

LoVecchio rejected the original plea of self-defense, but ruled that the killing was unintentional....even though medical examiner Dr. Sam Andrews testified that the killing by strangulation would have taken at least 2 1/2 minutes. It also seems problematic that a young, active teenager armed with a knife would be outmaneuvered while coming at an older and obviously overweight adult, get a scarf thrown around her neck and not even manage to cut her assailant once.

“I really strongly disagree [with the sentence]. It sends a massively huge message to the rest of the country and the world that her daughter’s life was valueless,” said Joe Wamback, co-founder and chairman of the Canadian Crime Victims Foundation.

“Even though this girl may have been a handful and trouble, that’s not the issue. The issue is human life. Sentencing is not just about the criminal, but has to speak for the victim and to denunciation.”

Napolitano Blames Entry Of 9/11 Hijackers On Canada !?!

Obama's new diplomacy...suck up to our enemies and alienate our friends for no good reason.

The fireworks started when Chief of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano was pressed by reporters about statements she made to the effect that there should be equal treatment for the Mexican and Canadian borders. And never mind the flood of illegal immigrants and the major drug war now taking place on our southern border:

"Yes, Canada is not Mexico, it doesn't have a drug war going on, it didn't have 6,000 homicides that were drug-related last year," she said.

"Nonetheless, to the extent that terrorists have come into our country or suspected or known terrorists have entered our country across a border, it's been across the Canadian border. There are real issues there."

When asked if she was referring to the 9-11 terrorists, Napolitano added: "Not just those but others as well.".

The only small problem with that is that it's simply untrue, as the 9/11 Commission found out. And even if it were, the last time I checked, it was US border guards who are responsible for the US side of the border, not the Canadians.

Is this woman too stupid to know that, or to understand the difference between legal and illegal immigration? Apparently not. And to think, the Left called George W. Bush an embarrassment!

Needless to say, our friends in Canada are pretty ticked off at this, and rightfully so. They're wondering how she got her job.

Simple, really. President Obama isn't really concerned with the idea of national security all that much, and also doesn't know much about it. He likes the idea of an amnesty for illegal aliens, but knows that it wouldn't play well politically in the US, so he picked a reliable and not too bright Democrat with a track record of being very soft on illegal aliens to head the DHS and simply maintain the status quo.

And next year, with the US census under the personal control of Rahm Emanuel rather than the US Department of Commerce to count heads and ACORN on the loose to register these new bogus 'voters', he figures he'll be in a position to get what he wants anyway through the back door without the political cost of having to ram an amnesty through Congress.

For what it's worth, my apologies to our Canadian allies. Every so often, our electorate goes insane.

About 'Bush Lied'....

One of the enchanting fables of the Left, a lullaby to bring a dreamy smile to the face of a Code Pink or MoveOn lemming is the old song "Bush lied and people died."

It's based on the famous '16 words' in President Bush’s January 28th, 2003 State of the Union speech in which he said "The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."

Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame as well as countless leftard politicians and commentators made their fortunes and reputations off this, as you know.

Now, the British Butler Commission (their equivalent of our 9/11 Commission) re-examined the intel on Iraq and ended up standing by MI5's original assessment that Saddam was trying to buy yellow cake uranium from Niger....and as it turned out, they were right.Not only did Saddam seek to buy yellow cake, but he actually had a stockpile at the Iraqi nuclear center in Tuwaitha.

Today, buried under the fold in the dinosaur media, it's being reported that 550 metric tons of Iraqi"yellowcake" uranium— the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment needed for the making of nuclear weapons - reached Canada today. This was part of months long secret U.S. operation designed to get rid of the nasty stuff and get it out of the region.

The Iraqi government sold the yellowcake to a Canadian uranium producer, Cameco Corporation, in a transaction described as being worth "tens of millions of dollars." The uranium will be shipped to Ontario for use in energy-producing nuclear reactors to produce electricity.

It's important to keep in mind that the illegal nuclear materials fund in Tuwaitha only represent the stuff we were able to find, and does not take into account anything Saddam may have sold or shipped to say,his fellow Baathists in Syria.

As I've often written, Saddam had 19 months to do just that,thanks to the ridiculous tantrums of the Left in Britain and here in the US in the farcical run up to war.

With that kind of lead time,I'm amazed we found anything,let alone the significant amounts of dangerous materials we actually found.

I should also add that much of Congress has been aware of what we found at Tuwaitha and elsewhere, which is why in spite of all the angry rhetoric, President Bush has never been in any serious danger of being impeached....some inconvenient truth might just surface.

No, far better for their purposes to keep him there as a target and engage in deliberately false political posturing during wartime....

Don't hold your breath waiting for the dinosaur media or certain politicians to admit they were wrong on this one. Being a Leftard means never having to say you're sorry,no matter what kind of mess you created.But at least it's out in public who the liars really were.

Canada Tells US Deserters To Get Out!

There's some very good news out of Canada today...

The Supreme Court of Canada declined to hear appeals from two men, Jeremy Hinzman and Brandon Hughey who deserted the US Army and fled north, seeking `refugee' status.What's more, the Canadians want them to leave, and quickly.

The court decision backed up decisions by Canada's immigration authorities and two subsequent court cases that these deserters were not entitled to refugee status.

These two deserters claim to oppose the Iraq war on political grounds, and headed for the Great White North when they found out their units were going to be deployed to Iraq.

If they're deported to the United States, they say they face a court martial and up to five years in prison.

"Canadians want a refugee system that helps true refugees," said Mike Fraser, spokesman for Citizenship and Immigration Minister Diane Finley.

"All refugee claimants in Canada have the right to due process and when they have exhausted those legal avenues we expect them to respect our laws and leave the country."

(Translation: hey, Yanks...don't throw your garbage down here, eh?)

Needless to say, the two deserters are being aided and abetted by their forebearers, who deserted their country and found asylum in Canada during the Vietnam War.Lee Zaslofsky an ex-American who went over the hill during the Vietnam War is spokesperson for something called the War Resisters Support Campaign, which has been advocating for them.

"They won't be deported tomorrow; there is a process," said Zaslofsky. He said the two deserters were entitled to ask for a "pre-removal risk assessment," which can take a few months.It's designed to judge whether these two would be at risk of torture, death or cruel and unusual punishment in the US.

In contrast to the Vietnam era, when Canada was a destination of choice for thousands of draft evaders and deserters, even the War Resisters Support Campaign is only aware of 50 or so deserters in Canada since 2004...and most if not all of of them are in the process of being booted out.

To the Canadians, the fact that these people are volunteers rather than conscripts apparently makes a difference. I would imagine the brave efforts of the Canadian troops in Afghanistan does too.

As for the deserters, we're well rid of them. Since the Canadians likewise don't appear to want people of this ilk as citizens of their country, maybe Sweden would be a better destination. And I'm sure Cuba, Venezuela or Iran would welcome them with open arms.
