Accidental Suicide

Here's the difference between murder and suicide - when you get murdered, someone else pulled the trigger, but suicide is a deliberate hit you pull off on yourself. Accidental suicide, on the other hand, happens when you might not have any overt intentions of killing yourself, but engage in the Big Stupid, which results in your untimely demise. Think Russian Roulette, mixing alcohol and barbies or walking through Bed-Sty on a dark night flashing a Rolex and a fat wad of cash.

A big chunk of America's conservatives seem to be in the process of committing accidental suicide.

Joshua's Army member Louie Louie provided me with a great example of this kind of behavior, citing an article he found in his meanderings around the web as he writes:

"The poll/survey also found that 54 percent of conservatives feel so abandoned by the current crop of Congressional leaders and President Bush that they plan to reduce their contributions and/or grassroots work for GOP candidates in the next election. And 70 percent would support a principled conservative challenger running against an established incumbent Republican in a GOP primary.

The highlighted phrase in the last paragraph is what bothers me.
In the last primary season there were two honest to goodness conservatives, Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo, and neither got out of the starting gate.

How can people make the highlighted statement and get McCain as the nominee?
I don't understand the disconnect. And what happened to all those Hillary supporters who were going to vote for McCain? What, for crying out loud, am I missing???????"

Actually, Louie's not missing much..but it can be tough trying to make sense of irrational behavior.

He's indeed correct - we had an honest to G-d Reagan conservative in the GOP primaries to pick in Duncan Hunter. He was someone with impeccable leadership qualities and experience and he basically was ignored and ridiculed. So where were these people? Playing golf? One has to wonder exactly who these people consider to be a 'principled conservative.'

What people like these malcontents are now trying to promote, apparently, is a floor fight over the platform at the convention on national TV that will make the Democrat's cage match look like a schoolgirl spat,or perhaps even a third party.

I personally can't think of a better way to get Barack Hussein Obama into the Oval Office. If you'll recall, that how we ended up with Clinton and I don't think I need to remind you how well that turned out.

These people forget that John McCain is the nominee for one huge reason - because he was the closest thing the GOP had that was perceived as an 'anti-Bush.' The damage the current occupant of the White House( with help from a GOP congress) did to the conservative brand name and to the Republican Party has been devastating, and that's exactly why the Democrats are gearing their entire campaign around linking McCain with Bush. So far McCain has allowed them to do so with impunity.

As for the Hillary supporters, well, some of them will be pulling the lever for John McCain, and a lot of others will simply talk themselves into voting Democrat again, swallow the Kool-Ade and vote for Obama. Just as a lot of these disillusioned conservatives will be doing for McCain, when the game's almost over and the prospect of Mr. Hope N' Change in the White House hits them.

Some of these self-styled conservatives will probably stay home and sulk on election day, but I'm going to have a problem problem retaining respect for them after that anyway.

At this point, it goes beyond mere party loyalty, which I don't particularly care about. It's about picking the best of two admittedly flawed candidates to lead the country during a time of crisis.
McCain was never my choice for president, and I disagree with him on any number of issues. But when it comes to his experience, character and courage compared to Barack Obama, there's simply no contest.

To me, there are basically two reasons to vote for John McCain.

First, there's the War On Jihad, Iran and what I think we're facing in the near future.

I don't think Joe Lieberman was wrong in the least when he pointed out that since al-Qaeda declared war on us, they have greeted the first year of each new president's administration with a major terrorism strike...the World Trade Center bombing in 1992 under Clinton and 9/11 under Bush. While al-Qaeda has suffered serious losses, they are still a potent force. And it's unfortunately not only al-Qaeda we have to worry about.

Thanks to the unwillingness of the Bush and Clinton administrations to confront the nation-states promoting Islamic fascism or to protect our borders, not only do we have home grown jihadis to deal with but active Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad cells under Iran's command inside our borders, as Steven Emerson and others have documented.

Our enemies are at war, but most Americans are still clueless about the fact that we're in a life or death struggle. Whatever else you can say about John McCain, he not only understands that we're at war but has the temperament to deal with it...which is why so many of our country's enemies are pulling for Barack Obama to move into the White House.

The second reason to vote for McCain can be summed up in two words - judges matter. And when it comes to the Supreme Court, they matter for decades.

The next president will likely have at least two Supreme Court justices to appoint. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, one of the most consistently Leftist and activist justices is 75, and her political soulmate Justice Stevens is 88. Justice Stephen Breyer turns 73 this year.

The Supreme Court came within one vote of overturning the Second Amendment just a short time ago. They didn't because there are two conservative justices, John Roberts and Sam Alito, who weren't there eight years ago.

The next time you see a bit of judicial idiocy in a Federal Court, especially when it comes to a national security issue, research the judge. Almost 90% of the time, it will be a Clinton or even a Carter appointee.

Now, John McCain might very well appoint some Leftist activist judges to the Court...but I know Barack Hussein Obama will.If you think Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Stephen Breyer are bad, just wait.

With these two issues in mind, sitting it out is not an option as far as I'm concerned. And given what we're likely facing, the quaint idea that conservatives are going to be able to pick up the pieces in four years and fix everything is, well..suicidal behavior the way I see it.

    Barack "Hussein" Obama?

Wow, Josh. That's a geyser of originality, buck-a-roo.

Do you never tire of this hackneyed attempt to Islamicize a proven Christian by associating him with a secular bogeyman?

When you write John McCain's name in your blog posts, why do you not bother to tell your readers his middle name is "Sidney"?

Or, are you afraid people would confuse this grand ole, macho war hero with someone else having a "sissified" namesake?

It's great that you're so passionate about advancing your conservative views -- I dig it. But if you can't be original while doing so, why not at least try being fair and balanced?

Truth Bandit "Yah-yah, mule, giddity up!" out,

    Cody, Wyo.

PS: It really sucks the MSM dissed Duncan Hunter's candidacy. Not only does Hunter have solid conservative creds, but he has a great middle name "Lee" - conjures up battle-scarred old warhorses, n'est-ce pas.

  3. Hi Louie,
As you know Weekend Monkey and I have our own e-mail addresses. If you want to communicate with him, you might want to drop him a line, as I'm sure he'd appreciate a little cheering up just now...

    Hi Truth Bandit ,
    How's it going?

You raise a couple of interesting points.

Let's start with your assertion that Obama is 'a proven Christian'.
I personally find that as questionable as assertions that he's a Muslim.

Based on assertions by his half brother, his cousins and people that knew him in Indonesia, its obvious that he was a Muslim at one time. That's not a problem for me in the least - check my blogroll for evidence of that and you will see a number of progressive Muslim sites listed. The problem for me is that he deliberately tried to hide it, along with a lot of other parts of his background.Seems to be a pattern with the guy.

Another interesting point is that if you read his books (the original versions, not the later abridged sanitized ones)Obama is fairly critical of Christianity, particularly Evangelicals while strongly praising the fundamentalist Muslim beliefs and practices of some of his family members. Go figure.

It's also quite obvious to me that while he is probably not a Muslim today , he's certainly no Christian. No one who was could have sat in Trinity Church and listened to the likes of Rev Wright for two decades, let alone exposed his two children to that kind of hatred. NPR's Juan Williams had a nice take on that I really liked a while ago.

Now...this stuff about middle names. According to lot of folks, mentioning Obama's middle name is off limits, mentioning rev Wright and Trinity is off limits, mentioning Tony Rezco is off limits, mentioning that Hamas, Louis Farrakhan, Gaddafi, Hezbollah and Ahmadinejad all like the idea of Obama as president is off limits, mentioning Bill Ayres and his other questionable supporters and advisers is off limits, mentioning his lack of legislative achievements is off limits...puh-leeze!Nitpick much?

By the way, I wasn't aware of John McCain's middle name. To me, the name Sidney doesn't exactly conjur up images of being "sissified". I have an Uncle Sid who was one of the guys who landed at Normandy Beach on D-Day, and sissified isn't a word I'd exactly associate with him, if you get my drift.

And yeah, I totally agree with you about Duncan Hunter. Damn shame..hopefully he'll be back in four years or so.

Thanks for dropping by, TB...have a good one.

Hey Y'all Listen Up Real Good and Stuff, y'hear?

Out here on the range we never heard no one say this business about Obama's funny names or crazy associates is "off limits".

Maybe it's just that the smear jobs have run their course on this one note trick pony and no one is paying a whit to these tired old attacks when gas is making them sicker than a hen with VD.

If the best the Right can do is call Obama "Hussein" whenever they get a hard on and write his name in print, instead of going after his policies. Then I'll bet a prized stead and a foal to boot, McCain will be back in the Senate and Hussein will be chilling in the White House laughing at how easy it was.

2006 proved the country is swinging back left, not right. Time to wake up and smell the coffee, folks. Sean Hannity is a dinosaur's testy.

Now, I got me some old coyotes sniffin' around my flock to chase off...

yah, yah...whooopeee! Bang! Bang! Cue Orbison n' Haggard

    Truth Bandit OUT,

    Cody, Wyo.

  7. Hi Bandit,
    How are you?

Y'know, amidst all the cowboy rhetoric I just can't help it...I get the feeling you're some guy living in an apartment somewhere rather than some cowhand out on the Lonesome Prairie.Anyway, it makes for some cute imagery.

I would remind you that YOU were the one who brought up Barack Hussein's middle name, and if you think Obama and his surrogates haven't tried to make the things I mentioned off limits you're smokin' loco weed, or just not paying attention.I provided you with plenty of facts, not what you dub 'smear jobs'.

You're new at the site, so maybe you haven't read up that there are plenty of reasons not to want Obama in the White House. I mentioned a few in my last respo0nse to you, but maybe you need stuff spelled out a little more clearly..happy to do the work.

You ticked off about gas prices? Blame Barack Obama and the Democrats, who've voted against every bill involving domestic energy creation here in the USA for decades(at least when Obama bothered to vote on anything)..and I'm not just talking about ANWAR.

We haven't built a gasoline refinery here in the US for thirty years, or a nuclear power plant for two decades. Guess who's fault that is? There was a perfectly rational bill to start drilling on the continental shelf 50 miles off shore..who opposed it? Anybody doing anything about using shale ( you'd know about that in Wyoming) or coal gassification, a clean, proven technology over sixty years old? Crickets...

Now being a fair guy, I'll grant you that Dubbyah hasn't exactly been ahead of the curve on this stuff, but everytime he's TRIED to do something in this area, it's been Barack Obama and the Dems who've opposed it.An dpeople are starting to understand what kind of people they put in Congress in 2006 when it hits them at the pump.

As fo rchasing awasy those pesky coyotes..you planniung on yelling at them to go away? Check out the gun laws in Chicago and to a large extent in Illinois, Bandit..which Obama supported and voted for as a city councilman and state legislator.

He may be saying different stuff now, to try and fool folks, but hios record says different. on these two issues and many other things.

    Thanks for dropping by...

The big problem for the American people is, that, they do not know who their enemies really are; as opposed to who the MSM tells them are their enemies!
