Nevada Veteran Cuts Down Mexican Flag Flying Above American Flag
This video is making the rounds.
A bar in Reno, Nevada had a prominently displayed Mexican Flag flying on top of the Stars and Stripes (which is actually against federal law). Once news of it got around, an American veteran, Jim Brossard, responded by cutting the flags down what what looks like a K-bar, leaving the Mexican flag on the ground and taking Old Glory home with him, saying that he 'wanted someone to fight me for this flag. They're not gonna get it back."
The owner of the business, who is an Mexican immigrant but who became a citizen wouldn't talk for the cameras, but later told the TV news station he wasn't aware of the laws. Although you'd think simple common sense would tell anyone you fly your adopted country's flag on top.
So what do we make of this?
While the reaction was appropriate, there's one important step that was missing, one I would have taken as a matter of simple etiquette. I would have asked to speak to the owner, explained politely that what he was doing was both illegal and offensive to his adopted country and asked him to fix it.
I have a feeling I might have gotten an apology, our flag in its proper place and perhaps a couple of tacos and a cerveza. Because most legal immigrants appreciate what this country and that flag stands for. That's why they came here.
If, on the other hand I'd gotten a rude response or a sneering 'no speak English', it would have been time for the K-Bar. And I would have been happy and proud to follow Jim Brossard's lead.
As a matter of fact, I have a feeling Jim Brossard just might have included that step if he wasn't so frustrated about the Ruling Class's disregard for the wishes of thei rfellow citizens in promoting amnesty and failing to protect our borders.
My motto in life is that whenever possible, you always give people an out, a chance to do the right thing. More often than you'd think, they will.

'The Free Men Of the World Are Marching To Victory' - D-Day

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.
Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened, he will fight savagely.
But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to victory!
I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!
Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.
~ Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower
The above is the statement General Eisenhower released to the allied forces under his command just before the Normandy Invasion that started the liberation of Europe from the Nazis.
Not so well known is that General Eisenhower also had another statement in readiness announcing the failure of the invasion and accepting full responsibility for what would have been a debacle.
When you read about Operation Overlord in Cornelius Ryan's "The Longest Day" or in Eisenhower's own remarkable book Crusade In Europe, it's easy to see why General Eisenhower was not unprepared for its possible failure. The weather was uncertain, there were indications that the enemy had found out the details of the plans for the invasion, and the sheer logistics of getting that many men and the supplies they would need landed on those hostile shores is amazing to read about even today. There were plenty of General Eisenhower's advisers who advised him not to attempt it, and it took considerable courage to go ahead anyway.
My uncle was one of the men who landed on Omaha beach that day. He never spoke about it much, except, in characteristic fashion, to make a joke about all the 'merchandise he was supposedly carrying to sell off....
I can only imagine what it was like to see the gates on that LST drop and have to run through the choppy waves to the beach, straight into the face of enemy fire every inch of the way.
The invasion might well have failed if not for a superb bit of disinformation. General George Patton was America's best combat commander, fresh from a superb record of victories in North Africa and Sicily. However, Patton was also in the political doghouse over an incident involving the slapping of a soldier he felt was malingering.
General Patton was removed from command of the Seventh Army in Italy and ordered to London, partly to get him out of the spotlight and let the furor die down and partly because allied intelligence had confirmed that the Germans were convinced that Patton was going to be the commander of the allied attempt to invade France, which they also thought was certain to be directed at Calais, the closest point between England and France.

Instead, Eisenhower put General Omar Bradley in command and used Patton as a decoy, creating message traffic back and forth to an entire fictitious army group and feeding the Germans fake intel on a supposed landing straight across the Strait of Dover to Calais. Because of that, German General Erwin Rommel was given only three Panzer units for the Normandy area while the rest were designated as being "in reserve" and held back in locations inland where they could be shunted over to Calais and deployed on Hitler's direct orders. In fact, most of them ended up staying right where they were as Hitler declined to give the orders to move them.
Out of the three Panzer groups Rommel had, only one was placed near the actual site of the Normandy landing. The other two were deployed near Calais and stayed right where they were for two weeks after the invasion, because the Nazis were still convinced that Patton was going to lead the main invasion force in an assault on Calais. By the time the Germans realized they'd been had, it was too late and the Allies had a firm beachhead.
One of the most amazing exploits in a day of amazing exploits has to be the scaling of the cliffs at the Pointe Du Hoc by Army Rangers, and I have a little story to tell about that...my apologies to those of you whom are regular members of Joshua's Army whom have heard it before.
About fifteen or so years ago, a few days after another June 6th, I ran into a grizzled old man and his friend at the bar of a local country club, where I was waiting for a lunch companion to show up. We got to chatting, the way people do in bars, and when a brief item flashed across the screen on the bar TV about D-Day, the man mentioned that his friend had been one of the Army Rangers who scaled the sheer cliffs of the Pointe Du Hoc under withering enemy fire, taking out the artillery, machine guns and pill boxes at the top of the cliffs. It cost these incredibly brave men a casualty rate of about 60%, and I'm still amazed it was even done at all.
Fortunately, my lunch date was late and the elderly warrior felt like talking, so I got to hear a first hand account from him what that had been like, using rope ladders and daggers and pulling themselves upwards while the Germans fired down at them.
As he spoke, an amazing thing occurred. The years seemed to drop away from him somehow and I could almost see the young soldier who pulled himself up the cliffs of the Pointe Du Hoc and kept going until he reached the top.No histrionics, no hyperbole, just a matter of fact account of a tough day's work.
Today, the chances are the man I spoke to that day isn't among us anymore. But I feel privileged that I got a chance to spend a few minutes with him, hear what he had to say and buy him a drink or two. It was living history at its best, and I've never forgotten it.
The men who invaded Normandy and defeated the scourge of fascism gave us the gift of freedom. Recent events would seem to suggest that we've taken that far too much for granted, the surest way to lose that freedom.
The warriors who beat back the dark night of tyranny almost 70 years ago did it so their posterity could live in a free nation. Now it is our turn to honor them by continuing that fight and preserving that freedom for our own posterity.

The Fate of the Republic
by Geoffrey Britain
The RINO Republican Leadership have repeatedly demonstrated that they are at best, appeasers and at worst collaborators. In attempting to protect the financial status quo demanded by their big donors, they are incrementally sacrificing American liberties by cooperating in the PARTIAL abrogation of the Constitution.
To obtain that cooperation from Republicans, the Far Left engages in a three step process; Lie through omission, Revise history to support the Lie, Demonize any opposition. Then rinse and repeat until the issue reaches its 'date of expiration'. That is effective but limited in its long term efficacy. The left's needing to lie, in order to advance its agenda, reveals the intellectual bankruptcy of that which is lied in favor of, which is in fact, a form of evil.
Evil and incompetence are almost always intertwined, as to justify its behavior, evil has to continually rationalize away the truth of the matter. To do so requires habitually lying about that which reality consists... when done long enough, the ability to recognize reality itself is lost. And recognizing reality is the most basic prerequisite for competence.
That is why the Obama administration so often behaves incompetently.
Only utter ignorance or willful denial can support the contention that the Obama administration still feels bound by law. The latest example being the stonewalling of emails from 'second channel' governmental email addresses. Any subpoena for all communications requires that all the secret and hidden files be turned over. However, if a regime is already not obeying the law, then compliance in any area becomes optional. And when such revelation can bring consequences far more negative than the penalties for non-compliance, what incentive is there to comply?
This administration long ago burst outside the bounds of law. The recent revelatory scandals have shown that they wish to control every aspect of our lives and thoughts and have no hesitation about violating the law, the Constitution, or any set of non-situational ethics. All means are justified by the ends sought.
This administration has a hunger for absolute power, possesses an authoritarian collectivist ego, and habitually practices the concealment of reality from the public. A combination fatal to constitutional government. And we are there.
History demonstrates that when those in power routinely resort to extralegal means, it inevitably leads to those viewed as a mortal threat, being 'disappeared'. Though Benghazi may argue otherwise, we are probably not there yet. But with the accumulation of extraordinary statutory powers, DHS troops loyal only to this regime, the massive accumulation of firepower by civilian agencies; all aimed explicitly at the civilian population... how far away can we really be?
The defiance of the White House and its executive branch departments of the IRS and DOJ to normal Constitutional processes is already common. The Obama administration is simply refusing and ignoring questions, subpoenas and legal demands for specific information that is within Congress' lawful purview. The courts are being ignored at will. The unconstitutional and thus illegal recess appointments to the NLRB have been struck down by two Circuit Courts of Appeal and upheld by none. Yet the illegally appointed members are still operating, demonstrating that the lawful Constitutional processes designed to restrain factions within the government from operating outside the law have broken down. Our Constitutional checks and balances are no longer working due to the massive infiltration into the government, mass media and academia of far left ideologues who regard constitutional protections, laws and regulations as inconvenient, meaningless impediments to implementation of the progressive agenda.
And the Obama administration is using its powers to prevent appropriate prosecution of government officials who have engaged in highly unethical and/or illegal actions.
We have not had a constitutional budget for 5 years, and have little prospect of ever having one again. Our electoral system has been corrupted to the point where the voter rolls and vote counts are actively disenfranchising Americans.
The left is actively engaged in adding millions upon millions of immigrants, both legal and illegal who are strongly inclined toward socialism, in order to permanently institute its agenda.
The former Soviet Premier Khrushchev foretold all of this; "We can’t expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders into repeatedly and gradually giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have [de facto] Communism.”
None of this is accidental and all of it prima facie evidence that the Far Left is engaged in a planned, seditious campaign attacking both the Constitution and the American people.
There is however, a reason for hope, though slim it may be, for we are not Europe, where bureaucratic regulation and "hate speech" laws are superseding unwritten but previously assumed freedoms. Our written Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land is as much a legal document of what the government cannot do as of what it can, which is why our Constitution is a LEGALLY insurmountable stumbling block to the full implementation of the "Progressive Agenda" that is required for that agenda to last.
“Don't interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties.” Abraham LincolnThis administration long ago burst outside the bounds of law. The recent revelatory scandals have shown that they wish to control every aspect of our lives and thoughts and have no hesitation about violating the law, the Constitution, or any set of non-situational ethics. Which means that sooner or later, the Far Left is going to have to discard all pretense and, through illegal means, attempt to fully abrogate the Constitution. That is when low-information, "useful idiot" liberals will face an unavoidable choice; awaken to what their political support has really wrought or become through willful denial, fully complicit in tyranny.
Upon that determination hangs the fate of the Republic.

Rand Paul Wins As Democrats Retreat!!
Senator Rand Paul, with help from Senators Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Mike Lee and Democrat Ron Wyden kept the filibuster against prospective CIA head John Brennan going for 13 hours:
After years in the shadows, the administration’s secret drone program burst into very public view Wednesday with lawmakers grilling the attorney general over legal justification for targeted killings and Sen. Rand Paul launching an old-style one-man filibuster to demand answers from President Obama.
The Kentucky Republican held the floor for almost 13 hours, effectively blocking a vote on the nomination of John O. Brennan, whom Mr. Obama has tapped to be CIA director. He said he would relent only if the administration publicly vowed not to target Americans on U.S. soil.
The Obama Administration didn't concede, but the Democrats were forced to delay the vote until tomorrow, and maybe even the weekend, depending on whether there's another filibuster.
Many of you may not realize how important this is. Since January of 2009, when President Obama and a veto proof Democrat majority in both Houses took over, they've trampled the Constitution and U.S. laws with impunity. They've changed long established congressional rules and procedures at their whim, and by and large they've gotten away with it.
Finally, someone told them no. Finally, at long last, someone said no, we're not going to allow you to shred the Constitution. Finally, someone stood up to them and exposed their lawless behavior for anyone who had eyes to see. And it wasn't the GOP establishment, but some Tea Party GOP senators the GOP establishment went out of its way to defeat, together with one Democrat who apparently still understands what the Constitution says and values it over the leftist agenda.
No matter how this ends up, it's a watershed, a turning point. It's a signpost to where the real future of liberty and our Republic lies.
Not with the Leftist ideologue in the White House, his serial prevaricator of an attorney general and their enablers and not with the Republican establishment. it lies with men and women who still value what it means to live in a free country and are willing in the old language that came down to us from our Founders to pledge their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to save and preserve it.
That's where the future of our Republic lies. And that's where hope lies for and our posterity.

Andrew Breitbart, RIP
Today is the anniversary of his death.
The clip above is a classic, from the days of WeinerGate. So is this, one of my favorite videos of Andrew Breitbart in action, taking on an SEIU and Soros funded Organizing America rent-a-mob at a conference called “Right Nation 2010,” held just outside of Chicago, Illinois on September 18th of that year, where he and Glenn Beck were headlining. It's absolutely hilarious to watch some of the mob flee from Breitbart like vampires from garlic...or in this case, from one man armed with the truth:
He was one of a kind.
Andrew took on the Left using their own weapons, and not only did he empower himself, he gave a whole lot of other people the courage and the format to stand up to them and fight back.He embodied Hillel's dictum, 'If there is no man, be that man.' He delighted in shining a bright light on the cockroaches he saw despoiling our country.
No wonder the Left rejoiced at his premature death. But that was Andrew Breitbart's final victory. Because it was the final proof, if any were needed, of how indecent they really are...a final vindication that Andrew Breitbart was entirely correct when he pointed it out time after time.
RIP.

A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall
The election is over, and President Barack Hussein Obama has won re-election.
There are some political, strategic reasons why I and so many others got this so wrong, but rather than go into details and analyze them here, I'd prefer to deal with the big picture issues. They're far more important.
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan represented the old, traditional culture of America, that built the country and preserved our Republic these 236 years. They represented an opportunity to retrace our steps and return to the traditions of that democratic republic.
They were, essentially, decent and patriotic men who were rejected by just over half of the electorate in favor of someone with a demonstrated record of failure who concentrated on exacerbating the divisions in the country in order to retain power. The ironic joke is that Barack Obama has managed indeed to retain that power, but in a manner that so alienated half the country that he will be unable to govern effectively by mandate, or indeed in any other way.
What that really means will be a lot clearer, even to those celebrating the president's re-election tonight in about two years or so. The proof of that is that according to all the exit polls, the number one concern of the vast majority of voters was the economy, most of them said it was getting worse, not better and fully seventy-seven percent of voters called the economy not so good or poor.
Yet half of them voted against an experienced business man with a history of success in meeting difficult challenges and turning around failing enterprises in favor of someone whose only offer was more of the same.Essentially, half of America voted for the status quo.
That course is unsustainable, and raising taxes on 'the rich' this president successfully demonized to enough of the country to win tonight will simply grease the skids.
That's fairly similar to what happened to George W. Bush in 2004. People were afraid to change horses in midstream, especially for someone as eminently unlikeable as John Kerry. So they gave the incumbent a chance to follow through on his policies and perform. Remember 'I have political capital and I intend to spend it'?
The only difference is that President Bush had an actual mandate, and control of congress for two years of his second term. President Obama doesn't even have that much,(a few thousand votes in some of the strategic battleground states would have changed things entirely) and he's conducted himself in such a way that his fall from grace will be even more precipitous than President Bush's was.
The economy is not going to get better.
President Obama and the people around him still have the exact same attitude towards oil, coal and gas and skyrocketing energy prices are going to become the new normal. That will add up not only to higher prices at the pump but increased prices for food and goods.
In two years, about the time of the next midterms, we will almost certainly be facing stagflation and the harsh reality of the fiscal debacle this president created will be readily apparent even to many of the True Believers. As ObamaCare kicks in, Americans will be stunned at the taxes they incur and the bureaucracy they're going have to cope with. People used to being able to get care on demand are going to be shocked at how long they need to wait for a procedure, and they'll have to cope with a major shortage of doctors as fewer and fewer physicians will either go elsewhere or simply do something else because they won't be able to accept what ObamaCare offers them for their services without going bankrupt. Seniors will discover to their horror that everything they were told about rationed care is absolutely true.
The disillusionment will be fierce.
And on top of all that, the major scandals that began during the first Obama Administration will almost certainly burst into flame midway into the second. Benghazi, the Green energy scandals and Fast and Furious aren't going to go away, Darrel Issa is still going to be chairman of the oversight committee with subpoena power and the GOP dominated House is not going to be in a conciliatory mood.
The House may even put their collective foot down and refuse to raise the debt ceiling without quid pro quo cuts in spending the president will be unwilling to give them, and will almost certainly fight the president's continued hollowing out of our military tooth and nail. And in spite of tonight's disappointing showing, there are still enough Republicans in the Senate to filibuster., even if they need to be leaned on to do so.So we may even see gridlock similar to what's occurring today.
These things will all come to a head midway through this president's second term and it won't be pretty. Remember you heard it here first.
For now, what's apparent that whether they realize it or not, half of America apparently voted to emulate European socialism when the evidence of how well that's working is right before their eyes. They will experience exactly what they voted for now now to to the point where it sickens them, and they will either pull the reins and change or change will come to them as a natural consequence, because that's how it works. Ask the Greeks or the Spaniards.
It will be a harsher lesson than it needed to be, but perhaps a better one because of it.
For the rest of us, the ones on the other side of the divide, the question we must ask ourselves is different. We need to ask ourselves, what did tonight teach us about our half of the country? About the other half? And how can we use that knowledge to our benefit? Focus. This is a chance for new strategies and a brand new start, and it is eminently doable because no matter what, Obama and the Democrats are going to own what happens in the next four years.
And by the way, opting out is not an option. There are no bolt holes, not really. Flee history and politics and they have a horrible way of catching up with you in spite of your best efforts. Choices you refuse to make get made for you.
Unfortunately, in the meantime this is going to be a hard rain indeed that falls. How hard depends on us and how we embrace what could actually be a gift of fortune, depending on what we make of it.
Societies either embrace real change or they decay and decline. Decay and decline is a possibility, but in our case, rather than simply declining, we are a lot more likely to do what the Romans did in a similar situation. They decided this democracy stuff was too much trouble and dangerous to their physical security and survival. So they abandoned their republic and their traditional liberties altogether to become empire.
We have a chance to embrace real change, freed of a great deal of baggage if that is how we decide to make use of it.
A hard rain doesn't just storm and thunder. It washes away the old detritus. It cleanses.

An Assignment For My Readers This Weekend
Four days from now, America is going to make a decision that will very much affect what kind of nation we will become. It will affect our own lives and that of our posterity.
We have always been a nation blessed by our Creator, and given a rich bounty by Him as a free country and a beacon to the world.
For the next four days, I ask you to do what our Founders did in Philadelphia when they set out to create the framework of America. I ask you to pray.
Pray to Almighty G-d and ask for His grace and mercy on our country.Ask Him to guide our hands and show us the right path in accordance to His will.
And pray for the victory of freedom and righteousness.
Pray.

Mama Grizzley, Okie Style - Teen Mom Blows Away Intruder Who Tried To Break In

Now, this story made me smile..
A young 18-year-old teen mother in Oklahoma City took out an intruder to protect herself and her 3-month-old baby on New Year's Eve, less than a week after the baby's father died of cancer.
Sarah McKinley said that on Christmas Day, the same day of her husband's funeral, a man later identified as Justin Martin dropped by, claiming that he was a neighbor who just wanted to say hello. Mrs. McKinley didn't fall for that and refused to let him in.
On New Year's Eve Martin returned with another man, Dustin Stewart, and this time was armed with a 12-inch hunting knife. They'd obviously been scoping things out and knew Mrs. Mckinley was alone in the house with her baby, so the scum began trying to break in, figuring she was an easy mark.
She wasn't. Sarah McKinley grabbed her trusty 12 gauge, her baby and a bottle, headed for her bedroom and called 911.

"I've got two guns in my hand -- is it okay to shoot him if he comes in this door?" the young mother asked the 911 dispatcher. "I'm here by myself with my infant baby, can I please get a dispatcher out here immediately?"
The 911 dispatcher confirmed with McKinley that the doors to her home were locked as she asked again if it was okay to shoot if the intruder were to come through her door.
"I can't tell you that you can do that but you do what you have to do to protect your baby," the dispatcher told her.
So when Martin kicked in her bedroom door and came after her with the knife she shot and killed him. His partner ran away and turned himself in to the police later.
Since this is Oklahoma and not Lotus Land, the cops are calling it justifiable homicide and no charges will be filed.
"You're allowed to shoot an unauthorized person that is in your home. The law provides you the remedy, and sanctions the use of deadly force," Det. Dan Huff of the Blanchard police said.
"I wouldn't have done it, but it was my son," McKinley told ABC News Oklahoma City affiliate KOCO. "It's not an easy decision to make, but it was either going to be him or my son. And it wasn't going to be my son. There's nothing more dangerous than a woman with a child."
Mrs. McKinley, you are one stand up, heroic woman and I have a feeling that as soon as you're ready, some upstanding example of manhood is going to propose and take you off the market. Oklahoma, OK!
Remember this story the next time some politician in a gated estate with armed bodyguards or 24/7 Secret Service or state trooper protection tries to talk you into disarming yourself and tell them exactly where they can stick it.

Obama Administration Opposes FDR Prayer at WWII Memorial

Ah, how typical. Not only is this a memorial honoring an American victory, but it's a Judeo-Christian prayer. And we can't have that now, can we?
Republican lawmakers and conservative activists are expressing outrage after the Obama administration announced its objection to adding President Franklin Roosevelt's D-Day prayer to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The objection was noted during a congressional hearing on Rep. Bill Johnson's, R-Ohio, bill -- the "World War II Memorial Prayer Act of 2011."
"It is unconscionable that the Obama administration would stand in the way of honoring our nation's distinguished World War II veterans," Johnson said. "President Roosevelt's prayer gave solace, comfort and strength to our nation and our brave warriors as we fought against tyranny and oppression."
Of course, the president has made it quite clear in the past that D-Day is not exactly a big deal where he's concerned.
The bill has bi-partisan support and will almost certainly pass the House. Let the Democrats in the Senate kill it, with an election coming up - or make the president veto it.
I urge you to read the prayer President Roosevelt read to the nation on that decisive day in our history. It's quite obvious why the present occupant of the White House would rather we ignore what it expresses.

Fred Phelps' Westboro Ghouls Get Some Well Deserved Payback
Many of you are familiar with the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, who make a fetish out of disrupting military funerals and traumatizing the assembled loved ones of our deceased warriors with 'protests' based on the idea that America is cursed by G-d because it allows homosexuality.
Leave it to the good people of McAlester, Oklahoma to remind these people that trashing the funeral of one of the brave men who died to assure them their First Amendment rights carries a certain cost.
After some of the Westboro ghouls arrived to disrupt the funeral of of Army Sgt. James McCluskley of McAlester, they were greeted with a massive crowd of about 1,000 counterprotesters at Third Street and Washington Avenue, two blocks from the First Baptist Church, where the soldier's funeral was held. Not only did the crowd drown them out, but a couple of Rolling Thunder-style bikers revved their Harleys at strategic locations to make sure not a single foul word of the Westboro-bots' screed could be heard.
Ah, but the day was young.
When the Westboro-bots returned to their mini-van, they found a few tires slashed. And as the van hobbled through town with a police escort, they were unable to find anyone willing to repair their tires for them. They eventually had to call Triple AAA for a flatbed trailer to get out of town.
The American spirit is still alive and well. And I'm certain Sgt. McCluskey is smiling somewhere.

After The Wave

Last night was an historic repudiation of Barack Obama's agenda.
The GOP has picked up house 61 seats so far, with a number still to be decided. No less than 16 state legislatures flipped to Republican control, along with a net gain of 7 governorships. And a total of 6 Senate seats changed hands, with two more - Washington and Colorado - still too close to call.
That is extraordinary considering how many seats the GOP had to defend, which they did successfully. In 2012, Democrats will have 21 seats to defend, far more than they did this year.
Even more impressively, the Democrats were forced to defend their turf in blue states like Michigan, California, Wisconsin, Connecticut and Washington, and were nearly wiped out across the board in battleground states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri and Florida. Combined with the historic flip of state legislatures, that will have a great deal to do with what happens in 2012.
Independents broke decisively for the Republicans, by 55% to 40%. That represents a complete reversal from the last midterm in 2006, when independents voted Democrat 57% to 39%.
In four years, the independents, who were a major part of Barack Obama's coalition have deserted him and his party.
Even more telling was how the partisan divide has widened in Congress. The carnage among the Blue Dogs that came into Congress in '06 and '08 was intense, especially in the South, Mountain West and Midwest. And while the Republicans made significant gains in Congress in the Northeast, that region and the West Coast largely eluded the GOP wave.
Most of the Democrats who survived were the ones situated in solid Blue territory in those regions who were either decidedly on the Left or were in racially gerrymandered districts. Barbara Lee was re-elected in Berkeley,as were Barbara Boxer, Harry Reid, Pete Stark, George Miller, Jan Schakovsky and Barney Frank. So were Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters.
And on the Republican side, the new congress is decidedly more conservative. It's unlikely that Marco Rubio, Kelly Ayotte, Ron Johnson, John Hoeven, Allen West, Paul Gosar, Renee Elmers,Kristi Noem and Daniel Webster are going to find much common ground with most of the surviving Democrats..especially with Obama in charge.
Because President Obama is not going to react well to the massive reversal of fortune. We will get a hint of that today, when he will make a statement at a White House press conference.
Unlike Bill Clinton, I am convinced that Obama will not seek to move to the center with the idea of taking credit for the GOP restoring fiscal sanity to win re-election in 2012. Instead, he will label last night's election as a sign that 'people are tired of obstructionism' and what he will undoubtedly call 'politics as usual' and call for the GOP led Congress to join with him to work on the country's problems - HIS way. As an ideologue as well as a narcissist he is never wrong, and if elections like last night happen, it's because the electorate is a bunch of bitter clingers who are too scared to think straight and appreciate his genius. He will not give an inch, and the far Left of the Democrat party that mostly survived will join him in digging their heels in.
With that in mind, it is actually a positive thing in a way that the Republicans did not take the Senate. That leaves Obama with control of two out of three of the levers of government, but with a firm grip on only one, the executive. The Republicans got just enough Senate Seats to prevent the Senate from becoming a rubber stamp. Obama will undoubtedly try, but he will be unable to subsequently blame the GOP for the resulting gridlock and political warfare to come.
The most important thing to understand about this election is that this was not a vote for Republicans, but, as PJ O'Rourke put it, a restraining order on Obama and his enablers. The new Republican congress is being given an opportunity. They are being sent to Washington to stop Obama's policies and to fight to institute conservative new measures, even if Obama ultimately vetoes them.
By keeping the Tea Party activists in the GOP instead of creating a third party, Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint and few others have given the Republicans a new lease on life and an opportunity to prove that they can be trusted to govern responsibly, restore fiscal sanity and move the country back on track to the ideas of the Founders. If they pass that test, 2012 will see the Republicans on track to win the presidency and cement even bigger majorities in place. If they do not, the American people will simply abandon them...not just for an election cycle or two but forever.
The choice is theirs, and it will be interesting to see what they make of it.

Even Hollywood Eventually Gets It - New Reagan Biopic Planned
And the outward signs are that it's not going to be the usual Leftard hit job.
The feature film, tentatively titled "Reagan" reportedly has a $30 million production budget and will be set for release late in 2011. It's going to be based on two best-selling biographies of the 40th U.S. president by Paul Kengor: "The Crusader" and "God and Ronald Reagan."
Jonas McCord is slated to write the script. His credits include "Malice" and "The Body". While he claims not to have been a fan of President Reagan's, he claims to have been won over as he researched the former president's life.
Too bad my friend Robert Avrech wasn't given the gig...we'd be talking Oscar for best screenplay.
The film reportedly begins with the 1981 assassination attempt on the president and then tells his life in a series of flashbacks.
The last attempt to tell Reagan's story was a sleazy mini-series entitled "The Reagans" miniseries which starred Babs Streisand's husband James Brolin as Reagan and was done by CBS. Once people found out what a left wing hit job it was, it was relegated to Showtime, where it flopped.
Mark Joseph, who optioned the books four years ago, is co-producing with Ralph Winter.
Winter's producing credits include four "X-Men" movies, two "Fantastic Four" movies and the 2001 remake of "Planet of the Apes." Joseph, a marketing and development executive, worked on "Ray," "Holes," "Because of Winn-Dixie" and "The Passion of the Christ."
"Only in Hollywood could you make an insulting, condescending movie about a much-loved historical figure, hire an actor who loathes the man, watch it flop and then somehow conclude that Americans don't want to see a movie about him," Joseph said. "I watched Americans line up and wait for 10 hours for the simple privilege of passing by his closed casket. They love this man."
"This is a great story. I'm just glad no one else in Hollywood thinks so, or they'd have made this film by now."
Can Hollywood make a suitable picture about a great president and an American hero? We'll see.

Congressional Candidate Lt. Col. Allen West's Fourth Of July Message
You've read what I've had to say about this American hero before. He's a highly decorated war hero whose awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters, one Valor Device), Army Achievement Medal (one Oak Leaf Cluster), Valorous Unit Award, Air Assault Badge and the Parachutist Badge.
He also has some refreshing and unique views on national defense, Israel and the actual war we're engaged in that make me wish I lived in Florida just so I could work on his campaign and help him get elected.
This is someone we badly need in Congress. If you care about the future direction of this country, send him some love and money.

The Fourth Of July

Today is our country's 234th birthday.
That's not a very long time, as countries in general go, but it is an extremely long time when it comes to a country that took on the radical experiment of being a democratic republic.
In fact, there are only two republics in the world older than ours, San Marino (which once made Abraham Lincoln an honorary citizen) and Switzerland. England's parliamentary government preceded ours and has been an inspiration of democracy to the world, but the British system, with its 'rotten boroughs' and purchased seats based on patronage was very different than our idea of a democratic republic. The monarchy retained major control over Parliament until the Reform Act of 1832, and the supremacy of the popularly elected House of Commons was only really cemented with the Parliament Act of 1911.
As the world's most powerful democracy, we stand as a beacon of freedom and hope for what is mostly an unfree world.
Whether we like it or not, we really are what President Reagan called the last, best hope of mankind.
There are those today that say that America is nothing exceptional, just another country among many others, and that our best days are behind us. I beg to differ.
We are the only country who was founded not on ethnicity or on class warfare but by a creed, an idea. It was the radical belief that men are endowed by Almighty G-d with freedom to live and prosper and enjoy ordinary life - the pursuit of happiness - without the boot of tyranny on their necks. And the fact that we have become what we have become, that we have ascended to the leadership of the free world is a product of that lineage, not a mere accident.
And at the core, we still are that country, in spite of a minority of our own citizens who seek to deny it and change us into something else. I've been hanging around long enough to remember other times when the same kind of people - in fact, in some cases, exactly the same people - said the very same things when we faced great challenges. They were in grave, egregious error then and now, and time, once again, will prove it.
It is the American people who still rule our beloved Republic, and it will only fail when we decide that it has.
Let's never forget that America is a special place as we enjoy celebrating our nation's birthday. Below are the words to our national anthem, written by Francis Scott Key after witnessing the heroic defense of Fort McHenry from the British invaders. Take a minute to really read the words (especially the last three verses) and think about what they mean..because their message to us is contemporary:
The Star Spangled Banner
O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
O thus be it ever when free-men shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust!”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
