Protests Rock Egypt After Morsi Seizes Dictatorial Powers

Protests held for and against Morsi in Cairo

Apparently some Egyptians were less than pleased about Egyptian leader Mohamed Morsi's taking on what amounts to dictatorial powers.

Just yesterday, Morsi announced  that any challenges to his decrees, laws and decisions were banned.
"The president can issue any decision or measure to protect the revolution," said the decree, which further stipulated that, “The constitutional declarations, decisions and laws issued by the president are final and not subject to appeal."

In other words, Mubarak all over again, complete with the 'emergency laws' the howling mobs in Tahrir Square were so exercised about during the Mubarak era. Only this time, sanctified by Allah, the Muslim Brotherhood, the spiffy new sharia-licious legalisms the Islamist and Salifist dominated parliament is going to write.

There were wide spread demonstrations in Cairo, Port Said and Alexandria, where a Muslim Brotherhood office was trashed.

Needless to say, the regime did exactly what Mubarak used to do in the good old days. They  rounded up counter demonstrators to break heads and the Egyptian police behaved with their customary approach to anyone who got particularly in the way.Of course, this is now a Muslim Brotherhood regime, so neither President Obama or Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is going to say anything remotely like 'It's time for Morsi to go.'

Ah, the wonderful democracy of the Arab Spring!

U.S. Marines Guarding Embassy In Cairo Were Not Allowed Live Ammo

Absolutely astounding.

Every U.S. embassy abroad normally has a contingent of Marines to guard and protect it.

We already know that our Libyan consulate was devoid of such protection and relied on Libyan security guards who simply shepherded the American personnel into a second location and ran for it...after telling the jihadis exactly where our people were, according to the CBS news report on the story.

Now it comes out that in Egypt, even though the Marines were on duty, they were neutered by being prohibited from carrying live ammo by the express orders of President Obama's ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson. Who, by the way, was safely in Washington DC when the Cairo embassy was invaded. They were forced to watch as the embassy they had been ordered to protect was stormed and the flag they took an oath to serve was violated.

Two of the Americans killed in Libya were Marines. Were they also ordered not to carry live ammunition?

It is absolutely damning that no orders were given to arm the Marines and protect the embassy in the wake of the anniversary of 9/11 and the fact that as we now now, the demonstrations were planned and publicly announced in advance.

Instead, the decision was made to rely on security guards provided by Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood government, who did absolutely nothing to stop the mob from invading the embassy compound and destroying our flag. They may even have had orders not to do so. it was only due to luck, the grace of G-d and Egypt's rioters being less well armed than their Libyan counterparts that kept more Americans from being killed or injured.

If all this seems familiar, all you need to do is flash back to Iran circa 1979, when our embassy in Tehran was invaded several times before it was taken over and our diplomats made hostage.

UPDATE: The Pentagon has officially denied this in a rather ambiguous statement:

Pentagon Lt. Col. Chris Hughes told FOX News: “The ambassador and RSO (Regional Security Officer) have been completely and appropriately engaged with the security situation. No restrictions on weapons or weapons status have been imposed. This information comes from the Det Commander at AMEMB (American Embassy) Cairo.”

Which leaves a couple of interesting questions. What exactly constitutes 'completely and appropriately engaged with the security situation'? The statement mentions weapons, but not ammunition. There is no statement about whether the Marines were allowed to pack live ammo or not, a simple enough thing to state directly. Why?

And if the Marines did have live ammo, why were no warning shots fired when the Egyptian Security forces melted away and the mob stormed the embassy?

This strikes me as after the fact face saving and plausible deniabilty, and the fact that the spokesperson is careful to state that his info comes the detachment commander at the embassy underlines that along with the carefully composed vagueness of this statement.

I think the Marines were likely disarmed, as many Marine blogs have asserted.

Egyptians Trash U.S. Embassy, Desecrate Flag

Egyptian rioters stormed the U.S. embassy in Cairo today. They climbed over the wall, trashed the grounds, removed the American flag, ripped it to shreds and hoisted in its place the black flag of jihad, which reads "There is no God but Allah and Mohammad is his messenger."

As always, westerners are bending into pretzel shapes to try and come up with why this occurred while avoiding the obvious.

The excuse given was that was that a movie was supposedly being made about Mohammed. No real details, but apparently that was all that was needed to gin up the festivities. Another news source is claiming that this was supposedly about a symbolic 'trial' of Mohammed carried out by Terry Jones and his group, who symbolically burned a Qu'ran last year.

Actually, when it comes to Muslim violence, no real reason is needed. And if you're a ferengi, an infidel, even appeasing them buys you no peace. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton found that out last July when her motorcade was attacked by a mob.

The reality that no one wants to openly admit is that today's display is a party, a fiesta.

Today is 9/11, and many Muslim worldwide regard it as a day of victory over the west and in particular, America, the Great Satan. Remember, they have a home town hero to cheer. Mohammed Atta, leader of the hijackers was an Egyptian, and a former Muslim Brotherhood member just like the current head of al-Qaeda, Ayman Zawahiri.

Needless to say, the Obama Administration was quick on the draw with an apology. A statement was issued on behalf of the embassy saying that it "condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims -- as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions."

"Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy," the statement said. "We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others."

Yes indeed, they certainly do condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Unless of course they're Jews, or Christians so unfortunate to be living in Islamic countries, or Catholics in America who adhere to their church's teaching on abortion and birth control. Respect for their religious sensibilities is apparently a different matter.

We give the Egyptians over two billion in aid, forgave over a billion in debt we were owed and were instrumental in helping them obtain a badly needed IMF loan. All that wasn't enough to buy us even a basic level of respect from these people and I actually understand why.

In this neighborhood, everyone kicks the cringing dog with impunity.

In the past, any country daring to desecrate our flag and invade U.S. sovereign territory- for that is what an embassy is considered to be- would have rued the day they did so.

Not any more. It's all about appeasement, which only breeds more of the same.

You can hardly blame much of the Muslim world for having contempt for us. It's their usual attitude towards dhimmis.

What Leftist Anarchists Have Planned For The Republican Convention

Brandon Darby worked undercover for the FBI in 2008 and helped stop a bomb plot at that year's GOP convention. In this interview on Breitbart, he goes into some detail on what's being planned and we can likely expect - and it will not be peaceful:

Brandon Darby: The video I gave you is interesting because it’s a video surveillance I took of one section of the Republican National Convention welcoming committee. Several of the clips of video were used in the prosecution of David McKay and Bradley Neal Crowder.

What happened at the Republican National Convention in ’08 is that the overall liberal, Democratic protests were organized by a group called United for Peace and Justice. Now these were the mainstream liberal protesters, not the ones who would violate the law or violate a police order or anything crazy. Now what was interesting is that the same group of people organizing the mainstream liberal protests also organized a breakaway group called the RNC Welcoming Committee and it was 500 to 1,000 anarchists. And their goal was to shut down the Republican National Convention by any means necessary.

Now they had meetings for a long time before and what they ultimately decided to do—and it was folks like Lisa Fithian leading the training, and I know because I was in the training…undercover —but what they did is they mapped out the city, maps with corporate targets, business leaders home addresses, and Republican delegates home addresses, and also where the hotels were the delegates were going to be staying in. And they handed out these maps and then they showed people videos of Molotov cocktails and various other criminal behavior and asked everyone to be creative and feel free to use what they called a diversity of tactics and to make sure the Republican National Convention can’t occur, you know, can’t happen.

In a later planning session they mapped out the area around the convention center; they divided it into several sections. Then each group of anarchists of their RNC Welcoming Committee—which we now call Occupy—each group was responsible for a different sector. They had organized everyone into three groups of people. There was the red, the yellow, and the green. What they decided was that the yellow group was going be the group that would be arrestable. They were the ones who were going to get arrested. They were going to chain their arms and hands together in PVC pipe so that the cops couldn’t cut ‘em out without injuring them. But they were going to chain themselves across the major arteries so that the delegates could not get to the convention center.

Now, Lisa Fithian and the organizers, they realized that the police were not going to allow a group to set up and do that, allow the yellow group to do that. So they figured they could use the green group, the green group being the mainstream liberal and Democratic protesters who would never violate the law intentionally. So the organizers would manipulate the green group to get into the street and protest. The green group’s not realizing that they’re being used to cover illegal behavior that’s interfering with the rights of other Americans to assemble. And then when the police told the green group to get out they would slow the green group down and try to keep them from getting out of the road. Well eventually the green group would get out of the road. And if that didn’t give the yellow group enough time to finish locking down across the road, then the red group—which are the black mask wearing anarchists would come in—and the red group would actually begin to attack police.

Last time they made riot shields that they had made out of stolen traffic barrels and the riot shields had protruding sharpened deck screws from them. And they had their signs where, their protests signs were made out of heavy, heavy sticks so they could actually have a weapon against police but police couldn’t take them or else they were violating their rights to free speech.

And they would send the red group in to attack the police and then the red group would flee and then that would give the yellow group enough time to lock down and shut the RNC down. Well what was interesting about it, is that when the red group fled then the police would treat the protesters—because they’re all one protest—they would treat them as though they had just been attacked, because they had been. Well then the green group would look like they were innocent protesters who were getting attacked and in their minds they were because they didn’t realize that Lisa Fithian and the leaders were using them as part of this effort to violently attack police and attack conservatives.

So the buses that did get through when they were held up by the yellow group, then the red group would come back and the red group threw bricks and flagstones through the windows, they slashed the tires of the buses, they threw bleach and urine in the delegates faces and they attacked the buses and the people on the buses. And that’s what they’re going to do this time.

So that was…the red, yellow, green concept is very important for people to realize that that’s what’s occurring. So people have to remember, this isn’t a bunch of unorganized and disorganized kids. This is Lisa Fithian, she’s the one who led the unions and the anarchists to shut down Seattle at the ’99 World Trade Organization protest in Seattle. It’s not something to play around with because when this is all said and done the FBI informants will have stopped bomb plots just as they and I did last time.

These kinds of tactics were exactly what was used in Seattle, in Oakland, in Vancouver, and even in London as various groups swap strategy and techniques.

And according to Brian Darby, there's an aded twist planned for the GOP convention to shut it down:

The other thing that they’re trying to do is that they have a coms group—and this is breaking news you need to know this—they have a coms group that is trying to shut down the EMS communications structure for the city. That’s really happening. They’re trying to shut down the communications structure for the city for law enforcement and emergency medical personnel.

People don’t realize that these demonstrations, they have a sophisticated communications structure. Like before they have one of these demonstrations, whether it’s this one or whether it’s WTO or whether it’s, whatever it is, whether it’s IMF…When these people when this global movement of anarchists that protests these things they have to rent space and have extra cooling systems and have massive cable networks and they have to have to have a lot of communications equipment, a lot of computer equipment. It’s not like a bunch of people are going to show up and talk on their cell phones. They have some massive computer equipment and their goal is to shut us down.

Needless to say, just as with the OWS movement, the leftist, pro-Obama media is going to defend these people to the death as 'harmless protesters' victimized by over zealous law enforcement. And the fact that Tampa has a Democrat mayor and Obama surrogate in Bob Buckhorn who has been quite vocal about wanting convention participants disarmed and being willing to call off the Republican convention at the least excuse just adds to the mix.

Be prepared to see the RNC shut down because of street violence.

Massive Attacks On Israel's Borders By 'Peaceful Protesters'

Today was the day the 'Palestinians', Israel's Arab neighbors and a number of foreign groupies had set aside for 'peaceful protest marches' against Israel's borders in honor of 'Land Day'. What they really are are violent riots featuring the attempted destruction of border fences, firebombs, the occasional gunfire and stones.

And of course the press, seen here hiding behind a posed 'Palestinian' protester. As you know, people tend to act out more when the cameras are on them, so what we're really seeing is the press inciting violence. That shot will probably make the EU newspapers and websites:

The IDF and Israel Police went on high alert Friday, imposing a full closure on the West Bank, limiting access to the Temple Mount and setting up checkpoints on roads near the Lebanese border ahead of expected protests marking Land Day and the Global March to Jerusalem.

Protests were taking place across the West Bank in Kalandiya, Bethlehem, Hebron, Nabi Saleh, Budrus and other villages. Israeli media reported that IDF troops fired warning shots toward protesters in the Gaza Strip who approached the closed Erez Crossing.

At the Kalandiya checkpoint Palestinian protesters were clashing with Israeli forces, throwing rocks, firebombs and burning tires. Security forces were using large amounts of tear gas, stun grenades, sound weapons and foul-smelling water to disperse the protesters.

I object to the word 'protesters' in this case, which shows you how far the Jerusalem Post has fallen from its former standards.Rioters is the proper term.

From Ynet:

Jordanian news sites have reported that some 8,000 people are gathering in order to take part in the massive march towards the Israeli border. There is increased security presence in the area.

Lebanese newspaper As-Safir reported that 120 buses will be transporting Lebanese participants and participants from Palestinian refugee camps to the Global March on Jerusalem

Twitter user Captain Barak Raz, who identifies himself as a spokesperson for the IDF's division in Judea and Samaria , posted a video of protesters throwing a firebomb at Israeli security forces.

“Firebombs on security forces peaceful protest???,” Raz tweeted when linking to the video. “#Yeahright.”

Raz also posted a picture of a Palestinian child throwing a stone for the photographers.

“Wow that’s one young rioter!!” Raz tweeted. “Peaceful??”

“This is how Palestinian rioters educate their children to terror,” one tweet on the feed read.

That's exactly why Oslo and the entire 'peace process' was always nonsense.

Ask yourself...what kind of parent would take a child of theirs into the middle of a violent riot? What kind of parent would smilingly teach him this kind of hatred?

The official purpose today was to violently penetrate Israel's borders and 'reconquer' Jerusalem.

The unofficial purpose is best expressed by Noah Pollack, executive director of the Emergency Committee for Israel.

“GMJ uses the same PR tactic that has become standard for all the terrorist groups who attack Israel. They want to put the Israelis in a situation where they have to kill people. Hamas, Hezbollah, GMJ—it’s all the same strategy: force the IDF to kill people, get it on video, kick back and enjoy the media furor.”

Which explains why the child was there in front of the cameras.

Even more revealing are some of the anti-Semitic jackals in the west who are staunchly supporting today's festivities, including Desmond Tutu, Noam Chomsky and Cornell West, Nobel peace laureate Mairead Maguire, and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

I understand why the Israelis don't use live fire on the rioters, but as Napoleon once observed while dealing with mobs in Paris while still a general, a response like a volley of warning shots that doesn't exact severe casualties only makes the mobs bolder and just leads to more carnage and loss of life once a forceful response is required.

I'll say again what I've said for over a decade now. There is no 'two-state solution'. The 'Palestinians' have made sure of that ever since Yitzhak Rabin and Israel's Labor government foolishly listened to Bill Clinton and let Yasser Arafat bring his murderous thugs in form Tunis and take over.

Nor is there a 'peace process'...not with these people. The solution for Israel is to annex the areas in Judea and Samaria it wants as its borders, guard and protect those borders, expel every Arab non-Israeli citizen within Israel to the other side of that border and move any Jews outside the border back to Israeli territory.

They then need to cut off all contact with the Arab occupied areas of Gaza, Judea and Samaria and inform the people who refer to themselves as 'Palestinians' that any attacks on Israel's sovereign territory will be treated as an act of war and dealt with as such. The usual suspects in the media would go crazy for a couple of weeks, but after that, the caravan would move on, even though some of the dogs would continue to bark.

Telling Hamas that the next rocket or mortar shell fired at Israel's civilians from Gaza would lead to a no-holds-barred full on war might just have more of a deterrent effect than the occasional pinpoint raids.

It's about time the Israelis realized that.

Athens On Fire

Under severe pressure by Germany and the other EU nations, the Greek parliament finally agreed to the harsh austerity program the EU demanded in exchange for yet another €130bn bail out:

( Greek PM)Mr Papademos warned earlier the €3.3bn package of cuts was “the only alternative to a catastrophic default ... that would force Greece, sooner or later, to leave the euro.”

“The social cost of this package is limited in comparison with the social and economic disaster that would follow if it is not adopted,” he said.

Lawmakers voted 199-74 in for the cutbacks, but with heavy dissent among the two main coalition members.

In response, the Socialists expelled 22 members and the conservatives expelled 21 lawmakers, reducing their majority in the 300-seat parliament from 236 to 193.

Intense rioting broke out in Athens as the new of the vote circulated, and has reportedly spread to the islands of Corfu and Crete, the northern city of Thessaloniki and towns in central Greece, the worst hit town in that part of the country being Volos, where the town hall and other buildings were burned to the ground.

Among other things, the new cuts call for cutting one in five civil service jobs and slashing Greece's minimum wage by more than 20 per cent.In exchange, as part of the new bail out package Greek bond holders agree to take a 'haircut' of 70 per cent of the value of their holdings. It will be years before anyone buys Greek bonds again.

In Athens, crowds of rioters set bonfires in front of parliament and only squads of dozens of riot police formed lines kept them from making a run on the building. The police fired fired dozens of tear gas volleys at rioters, who attacked the police with firebombs and chunks of marble broken off the fronts of luxury hotels, banks and department stores.

Masked rioters also attacked a police station with firebombs and stones.

Streets all over Athens were strewn with stones, smashed glass and burnt wreckage, while terrified passers-by sought refuge in hotel lounges and cafeterias.Looting was wide spread as shop windows were smashed, with the police occupied in guarding Parliament,City Hall and other public buildings.

Money quote from one rioter via Twitter: "I hate the deal. Maybe if I wreck this city I can get a job in construction building it up again."

Occupy Oakland Creeps Riot, Break Into City Hall, Burn American Flag

You'll remember that far left Oakland mayor Democrat Jean Quan was noticeably tolerant and supportive of the #Occupy Oakland creeps the last time they erupted back in November.Their pestilential encampment was only dismantled by police after it became a major health hazard.

Over the weekend, #Occupy Oakland repaid the city's tolerance by breaking into City Hall and did massive damage to the facility, including seizing American flags and burning them as part of the festivities. They also tore down fencing at the adjacent Henry Kaiser convention center and smashed everything they could get their hands on, including construction equipment left onsite. The #Occupy mob fought with police throughout the entire day, throwing rocks, bottles and other objects at officers. The Police responded by deploying smoke, tear gas and bean bag rounds. They later marched downtown, breaking into a number of buildings including a YMCA and damaging them.Over 300 were arrested.

The riot occurred after #Occupy protesters demanded the use a vacant building as a social center and threatened to to shut down the port, occupy the airport and take over City Hall.

Mayor Quan was typically schizoid about the event, on one hand demanding that the rioters "stop using Oakland as its playground" and on the other hand refusing to condemn the #Occupy movement, blaming on a small "very radical, violent" splinter group within #Occupy for the violence and destruction.

In media stories about this and other incidents, it's notable that no mention has been made of the fact that prominent Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and President Obama have explicitly endorsed the #Occupy protesters and everything they stand for. And that the Democrats and of course Democrat paymaster George Soros have helped finance it.

Iranians Sack British Embassy In Tehran

http://images.alarabiya.net/4e/e3/640x392_4794_179902.jpg

Protesters and 'students' attacked and looted the British Embassy in Tehran, throwing rocks, Molotov cocktails and burning documents looted from the offices. They tore down and burnt the British flag and replaced it with the Iranian flag while parading the streets with th eRoyal Crest and a framed portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02070/tehran-embassy-ins_2070377c.jpg

Another group of protesters broke into a second British Embassy compound at Qolhak in north Tehran. This compound is now used to house diplomatic staff, a library and a school. The protesters likewise damaged the buildings and took six embassy staff hostage who were later freed by police, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

This 'spontaneous' demonstration was in response to the clerical Council of Guardians approving a parliamentary bill submitted to them by the majlis to expel Britain's ambassador an downgrade diplomatic relations to a charge d'affairs in retaliation for the UK's participation in increased sanctions over Iran's rogue nuclear arms program.

The Iranian government claims that the incident was not planned by them, that they regretted the attacks and were committed to ensuring the safety of diplomats. Considering how well organized and timed the taking of the embassies were and that the Iranian police did absolutely nothing to stop it, it's fairly obvious that this was as 'unofficial' as the taking of the American embassy in 1979.

The Iranian police only forced the 'students' out of the embassies after they had been given plenty of time to loot and destroy them and things looked like they might be going a little further than the regime intended.

Al Jazeera's Iranian correspondant Dorsa Jabbari was fairly emphatic that that the police and the government had prior knowledge of the protest, which was organised by the student arm of the Basij militia, President Ahmadinejad's alma mater.

"Any such action of this could scale can never be independent in the Islamic Republic. These gatherings are always approved by higher officials," said Jabbari.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague issued the following statement:

“It amounts to a grave breach of the Vienna Convention which requires the protection of diplomats and diplomatic premises under all circumstances.

We hold the Iranian government responsible for its failure to take adequate measures to protect our embassy as it is required to do.

I spoke to the Iranian Foreign Minister this afternoon to protest in the strongest terms about these events and to demand immediate steps to ensure the safety of our staff in both embassy compounds.

While he said he was sorry for what had happened and that action would be taken in response, this remains a very serious failure by the Iranian government.

The Iranians, of course, are quite aware that after the gutting of the Royal Navy and its other military forces after a long period of Labour rule, Britain has little capacity to do much more than sputter and voice outrage. You have to wonder what a prime minister from Britain's former days like Benjamin Disraeli or Robert Gascoyne-Cecil transported into today's times would have to say about the spectacle of the British Lion being forced to acquiesce to this sorry situation out of sheer weakness and impotence.

Iran has been a rogue nation that ignores the rules most civilized countries abide by since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, and thus far they've gotten away with it. The end result of this appeasement will not be pleasant.

Egypt Explodes

Massive riots occurred throughout Egypt this weekend as protesters in major cities challenged army rule of the country.

Hundreds were injured, and the death toll, depending on who's counting, ranges from 12 to 15 people. According to my sources, it was even higher.

The protest was directed against the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and its head Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, the de facto transitional rulers of the country.

The army has shown signs of being reluctant to give up power. With the first set of staggered parliamentary elections set to start November 28th, The protestors are accusing the army of trying to retain power from behind the scenes as it oversees the transition, which could see military rule until the presidential elections that have no set date at this time and may not happen until late 2012 or early 2013.

Additionally, the army is involved in a dispute with various political groups and the army-picked cabinet over ground rules for the drafting of Egypt's new constitution. The army wants provisions that could leave the military essentially free of civilian control, free of any oversight over the army's budget and the 'guarantors' of Egypt's new constitution once it gets written. This, as you might recognize is the old Turkish model, and Egypt's Islamists have no intention of going to the trouble of taking power if the army can legally depose them.

The initial clash came when the Egyptian police attempted to clear out the protesters in Tahrir Square in Cairo. As the police moved towards them the protesters in the front lines used a tactic that worked during the clashes that brought down Mubarak, kneeling in an attitude of Islamic prayer. Last time, the army backed off. This time they didn't.

For the first time since the initial revolt, Egypt's state police force, a symbol of the Mubarak regime was deployed in force, and they were openly backed up by the army. The protesters were badly beaten without any regard for age or sex, and protesters later showed reporters spent shotgun cartridges, bullet casings and empty teargas canisters. Some of the tear gas canisters had been purchased by the Mubarak government from America, the UK and Israel had English and Hebrew markings on them, which caused fresh outrage

Here's the back story and it's an interesting one. The Brotherhood and other Islamist groups have been a major force in gradually fomenting discontent against the army's rule since it became obvious that the army was not quite ready to completely cave in to Islamist rule.

According to my sources, the Muslim Brotherhood initially instigated the protests after Friday prayers in anger over the army's refusal to obey what amounted to an ultimatum from them to bar ex-members of former Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak's National Democratic Party from running for office in the upcoming parliamentary elections. They used the excuse of the army's rather heavy handed rule as a sparking point.

Then, once the festivities were under way, the Brotherhood officially pulled back from the protests as they ramped up so as not totally antagonize the army while leaving just enough 'independent' Islamists in the crowd to give them credibility with the protesters.

What passes for Egypt's current government played right into this . Mansour el-Essawy, the interior minister whose resignation the protesters demanded sounded just like his predecessor in the Mubarak era, claiming that the police hadn't fired at anyone and that the demonstrators had shot at each other. And the generals stuck to a hard line.

"If security is not applied, we will implement the rule of law," said General Mohsen al-Fangari, a member of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, Egypt's de-facto government. "Anyone who does wrong will pay for it."

I have to admit this was a master stroke. Initially, the army was seen as the people's hero for not participating in crushing the initial revolt against Mubarak. After this weekend, they're seen as oppressors and the chief obstacle to 'democracy' and it's the Brotherhood that's now seen as the heroes. Watch for the Brotherhood to use this to get even more of the army and police lower ranks and officers on their side.

The Brotherhood was expected to get a 40% majority in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Assuming the elections are fair and honest and the results implemented, their majority will probably be even greater after this weekend's events, and they will be seen as the saviors of Egypt's 'democracy'. And if the elections are rigged or not held, look for Egypt to explode again.

It's a perfect lead in to the establishment of a new Islamic Republic.

UPDATE: My sources were apparently proven correct once again. The reported death toll has risen to 35. Meanwhile, Egypt's interim civilian cabinet has resigned en masse.

25 Coptic Christians Killed In Egypt After Protests Over Church Burnings

At least 25 Coptic Christians were killed and hundreds wounded after the Egyptian Army brutally suppressed a protest in Cairo over ongoing church burnings and violence directed toward Egypt's Coptic minority.

The Army drove armored vehicles at high speed directly into to crowd, and most of the dead were crushed under the wheels.

"Why didn't they do this with the Salafists or the Muslim Brotherhood when they organize protests? This is not my country any more," said Alfred Younan, a Copt speaking near Cairo's Coptic Christian hospital where many of the dead were taken.{...}

Christians complain of discrimination, citing rules that they say make it easier to build a mosque than a church. Tensions have often in the past flared over inter-faith romantic relationships, church building and other issues.

But since Mubarak's overthrow on February 11, incidents have got violent more swiftly. Christians say no one has been tried yet for the burning of a church in Helwan, south of Cairo, in March, after which 13 people were killed, or for violence in the Cairo suburb of Imbaba on May 7 that cost 15 lives.

Protests erupted elsewhere in Egypt including its second biggest city, Alexandria. Copts say promises by the new rulers to address their concerns and protect them have been ignored.

"The new emerging faction of Islamists and Salafists has created havoc since the January revolution ... The problem is the severe reluctance of the cabinet and the authorities to enforce the rule of law and protect the Copts," Youssef Sidhom, editor in chief of a Orthodox Coptic newspaper, al-Watani.

Those 'interfaith romantic relationships' al-Reuters blithely mentions almost always consist of Egyptian Muslims kidnapping Christian girls, torturing them, forcibly converting them to Islam and then marrying them off to one of the perpetrators. These girls are normally not permitted to ever see their families again. Such cases are widespread and are almost never prosecuted or overturned under what passes in Egypt for law.

The Copts are about ten percent of Egypt's 80 million population, and they have always been discriminated against as powerless dhimmis. But while Mubarak was in power, at least some of the worst excesses were controlled. Now, it's open season.

The Muslim Brotherhood and their political allies are using the army's brutality to their advantage, claiming that this just proves that the country needs to go to elections and have the army turn over power to a civilian government as soon as possible.

Once that happens, it will really be open season on the Copts.

Egyptians Storm Israeli Embassy, Tear Down Israeli Flag For The Second Time

http://www.ynetnews.com/PicServer2/13062011/3440360/1_wa.jpg

Egyptian mobs assaulted the Israeli embassy in Cairo again, demolishing parts of the wall erected around the building by the Egyptian government to protect it after the last incident, when anti-Israel demonstrators attacked the building and removed the Israeli flag from the roof.

Today's activity was sparked by a Facebook call for Egyptians to gather and 'urinate against the wall of the embassy'. Predictably, it also occurred on Friday, after the mosques preached the expected sermons.

The huge crowd demolished the wall while policemen and soldiers stood by, according to eyewitnesses.

They then stormed the embassy premises and ripped down the flag from the building for the second time in less than a month. Eyewitnesses reported that the protesters threw the flag on the street and trampled it to loud cheers by the assembled mob.

According to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, no embassy personnel were injured, but it wasn't for want of trying. The mob got in to the high rise building where the embassy is located, but were unable to get through the fortified door to the embassy itself.

In view of what's going on in Egypt ( and this is by no means an isolated incident), the Israelis need to face up to a few facts:

  • The Camp David Accords and the Israel-Egypt peace accords are over. The Egyptians have already pocketed the territorial gains in Sinai and have no further need for it, and the only thing that kept in going this long was Hosni Mubarak's hatred of the Islamists who murdered his predecessor Anwar Sadat.

  • Moreover, by giving up the Sinai the Israelis provided 'proof' to the Egyptian street that the myth Sadat and Mubarak told them - that Egypt won the 1973 Yom Kippur War - was true. Winners don't give up territory for peace, especially not in the Arab mind.

  • The elections in Egypt which are scheduled to take place later this month will almost certainly see the Muslim Brotherhood in political dominance. Since Egypt's economic condition remains dire, the traditional use of Israel as a scapegoat and distraction is almost a given. A future war might end of being an extension of this.

  • Given the inherent nature of Islam and its stance on Jews, real peace between Israel and any Arab nation is a fantasy, at least at this time. This latest demonstration of 'peace', taking place in a country Israel has supposedly had peaceful relations with for over forty years is a good indication of that.

Israel had better plan accordingly. So had the West.

Ann Coulter: 'The Sun never Sets On The British Welfare State'

Another masterpiece from La Coulter, who agrees with me in seeing the UK riots as a product of the Nanny State:

Those of you following the barbaric rioting in Britain will not have failed to notice that a sizable proportion of the thugs are white, something not often seen in this country.

Not only that, but in a triumph of feminism, a lot of them are girls. Even the "disabled" (according to the British benefits system) seem to have miraculously overcome their infirmities to dash out and steal a few TVs.

Congratulations, Britain! You've barbarized your citizenry, without regard to race, gender or physical handicap!

With a welfare system far more advanced than the United States, the British have achieved the remarkable result of turning entire communities of ancestral British people into tattooed, drunken brutes.

I guess we now have the proof of what conservatives have been saying since forever: Looting is a result of liberal welfare policies. And Britain is in the end stages of the welfare state.

In 2008, a 9-year-old British girl, Shannon Matthews, disappeared on her way home from a school trip. The media leapt on the case -- only to discover that Shannon was one of seven children her mother, Karen, had produced with five different men.

The first of these serial sperm-donors explained: "Karen just goes from one bloke to the next, uses them to have a kid, grabs all the child benefits and moves on."

Poor little Shannon eventually turned up at the home of one of her many step-uncles -- whose ex-wife, by the way, was the mother of six children with three different fathers.

(Is Father's Day celebrated in England? If so, how?)

The Daily Mail (London) traced the family's proud Anglo ancestry of stable families back hundreds of years. The Nazi war machine couldn't break the British, but the modern welfare state has.

A year earlier, in 2007, another product of the new order, Fiona MacKeown, took seven of her eight children (by five different fathers) and her then-boyfriend, on a drug-fueled, six-month vacation to the Indian island of Goa. The trip was paid for -- like everything else in her life -- with government benefits.

(When was the last time you had a free, six-month vacation? I'm drawing a blank, too.)

While in Goa, Fiona took her entourage on a side-trip, leaving her 15-year-old daughter, Scarlett Keeling, in the capable hands of a 25-year-old local whom Scarlett had begun sleeping with, perhaps hoping to get a head-start on her own government benefits. A few weeks later, Scarlett turned up dead, full of drugs, raped and murdered.

Scarlett's estranged stepfather later drank himself to death, while her brother Silas announced on his social networking page: "My name is Si, n I spend most my life either out wit mates get drunk or at partys, playing rugby or going to da beach (pretty s**t really)."

It's a wonder that someone like Silas, who has never worked, and belongs to a family in which no one has ever worked, can afford a cellphone for social networking. No, actually, it's not.

Britain has a far more redistributive welfare system than France, which is why France's crime problem is mostly a matter of Muslim immigrants, not French nationals. Meanwhile, England's welfare state is fast returning the native population to its violent 18th-century highwaymen roots.

Needless to say, Britain leads Europe in the proportion of single mothers and, as a consequence, also leads or co-leads the European Union in violent crime, alcohol and drug abuse, obesity and sexually transmitted diseases.

    Britain On Fire

    http://nymag.com/daily/intel/upload/2011/08/london_riot_560x375.jpg

One of the top stories in the news the last few days has been the massive riots sweeping Britain. Whole sections of the country's cities have been laid waste, and looting and violence is widespread. There are reports of people being forced to strip down naked in the streets so their clothes can be stolen.

    http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/08/09/article-2024001-0D5CB5C100000578-825_642x603.jpg

As near as can be determined, the flash point was the death of a black thug in a shoot out with police. The rioting began in the mostly black neighborhood of Tottenham in London, but quickly spread to the posher middle class areas of the city like Peckham and included white rioters as well.

Copycat riots, accompanied by widespread looting are occuring in Brixton, Clapham,Croyden, Deptford,Manchester, Birmingham, (primarily in Handsworth and Kings Heath, mostly black and Muslim areas) Wolverhampton, Fulham/Hammersmith,and the Chapeltown area of Leeds, among others. In some areas, the police simply allowed the looting and burning to go on and have only intervened when they had to.

    http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pixies/2011/8/8/1312833772779/Riots-break-out-in-north--007.jpg

At this point, the British government is considering calling out the British Army to reclaim the streets and maintain order.

    So, what's going on here?

The usual suspects on the Left are blaming the government and the austerity cuts, unemployment and 'social injustice'. As usual, they're looking through the wrong end of the telescope.

A nanny welfare state has a peculiar effect on people. As they allow government to do everything and manage everything, they grow to expect it, and it changes them. They grow more selfish, and have less respect for themselves and for society, especially when constant indoctrination from Leftist politicians about the 'evil greedy rich' is combined with an ever increasing entitlement mentality. And as they feel more powerless and hemmed in by Big Government's overweening hand and more 'deprived' , they feel stifled and almost like prisoners in a cell.

Many who observed the rioters burning and looting reported almost a festive air about them. And why not? They were happily engaged in destruction for its own sake, with the added bonus of free booty from the best shops in London and the talking heads on the TV and radio letting them know that the police weren't much in evidence.

And not only was the high of destruction and stealing to be had, but the high of a display of power. No government rules and regulation here, m'Lord! And if I feel like setting something on fire, heisting an I-phone or making someone strip naked in the streets because I want their fancy shirt or their Levis, why not? Because I can, for a change. And I'm owed this anyway.

Human beings naturally seek more freedom, self-expression and self-reliance like water seeks its own level. And when it's denied proper channels and expression, they'll seek it where they can.

Add that mixture to a disarmed population unable to protect their property, a police force cowed by political correctness and harsh oversight of their every attempt to do the job they were hired for and people like the BBC making excuses for the inexcusable and you get exactly what you have in Britain now.

There was a time not so far back when Britain was an eminently law abiding society. Crime and violence existed, but they were on the fringes of a decent society that still had standards, pride in its civilization and even the means at hand to defend itself and its property if it became necessary.

All of that has changed beyond measure. To bowdlerize Yeats, the center ain't holding...because its been deliberately rotted from within.

Commemorating a Failed Genocide - 'Nakba Day'

    https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxl2pSgwOyAQQXr44gwtcaiQ411N3lKYzFJlbttY82I8BlL1J4kzankx4kCg_UvWzpGSzbZxSinp1ooECEMz19S-anwpbGHArygApoboUNVf3_PPwUDBWBSAyxzu2Vav2DBMSs/s400/Syrians+jumping+border+with+Israel+150511.jpg

Over the weekend Israel was assaulted by a series of violent riots on its borders.Thousands attempted to breach the Israeli borders from Syria, Lebanon and Gaza, along with an Arab terrorist attacks in Jerusalem and in Tel Aviv, where an Arab truck driver injured 17 Israelis and killed one, using his truck as a weapon.

The rioters are being tagged by the dinosaur media as 'protesters' involved in a non-violent march into Israeli territory. Of, course, they're not explaining why 14 Israeli soldiers ended up getting wounded. There are plenty of vids are out showing that the border infiltrators were armed with rocks, bottles, firebombs, knives and whatever else they could get their hands on. Their intention wasn't peaceful in the least.

Anyone familiar with Syria and Lebanon knows this was co-ordinated with those governments. In Lebanon, the 'Palestinians' are virtually prisoners in camps like Ein-al-Hewar, and are forbidden to work at most jobs, own property or leave the camps without permission. Pretty much the same deal in Syria, and my IDF sources confirm that nobody gets near the Syria/Israel border unless the government wants them there.

What Assad wanted was a confrontation that would look bad for Israel in the media and would focus attention away from the carnage Assad's forces have unleashed on their own people , but not one so bad that the Israelis decided to take retaliation against Syria directly.

As it was, 10-12 'demonstrators' ended up being shot by the IDF as they tried to storm the border and destroy the border fence.

The protests were coordinated to mark what the 'Palestinians' refer to as the Nakba, the Catastrophe AKA the creation of Israel. What the nakba is actually 'commemorating' is the failed attempt at he genocide of every Jew in Israel by the Arabs in 1948, something a lot of the people who call themselves 'Palestinians' were willing participants in then and would be wiling participants in today.

The Israelis were expecting protests on Nakba day, but they were caught unprepared for 1,000 or so people rushing the border at one time.

So they were caught in a nasty conundrum, since the right of self -defense appears to be granted to every country but Israel. They could allow the 'protesters' to overrun Israel, which would essentially mean the end of the country, or they could do their best to push them back over the border with as few casualties as possible, which is essentially what they did.

It's worth noting that there are UN peacekeeping forces headquarters near both areas where the border was breached. They did absolutely nothing to stop this from occurring.

There's actually a fairly simple solution for Israel to prevent this in the future.. just mine the borders. It's worked fairly well for India in cutting down infiltration along the border they share with Pakistan, especially in Kashmir.

Contrary to what the usual suspects are saying, this has nothing to do with the so-called 'Arab Spring'. There's no such thing, just the Arabs moving from one sort of secular despotism to another one based on Islam, just like Gaza's rule went from Fatah to Hamas.

This is actually a positive development. Fatah aligning with Hamas, the events in Egypt and last weekend's happenings have pretty much convinced most Israelis that Oslo and the whole Land for peace garbage was pretty much always a trojan horse . What the majority of Arabs want is the Jews dead, and that was true before Israel ever became a state. Anything the Israelis give up to the Arabs just becomes a closer place for the Arabs to shoot at them from.

Eventually this situation is going to be resolved one way or the other, and I don't think it's going to be in the 'Palestinian's ' favor. Despite all the rhetoric, their fellow Arabs really don't care all that much about them, which is why most of them are still in refugee camps, are not allowed to enter Egypt without special permission and have been expelled en masse from countries like Iraq and Kuwait, among others.

Meanwhile the 'Palestinians' make useful dupes and distractions as poster children for the one thing that unites most Arabs - hatred of Jews and a desire to see Israel destroyed.

    Cringing Into Dhimmitude

The following is a statement released by General David Petraeus and and NATO Ambassador Mark Sedwill:

KABUL, Afghanistan (April 3, 2011) – In view of the events of recent days, we feel it is important on behalf of ISAF [i.e., the International Security Assistance Force] and NATO members in Afghanistan to reiterate our condemnation of any disrespect to the Holy Qur’an and the Muslim faith. We condemn, in particular, the action of an individual in the United States who recently burned the Holy Qur’an.

We also offer condolences to the families of all those injured and killed in violence which occurred in the wake of the burning of the Holy Qur’an.

We further hope the Afghan people understand that the actions of a small number of individuals, who have been extremely disrespectful to the Holy Qur’an, are not representative of any of the countries of the international community who are in Afghanistan to help the Afghan people.

Notice the servile tone of this missive, written by the man who is our wartime commander of the most powerful military on the planet and the ambassador of the wealthiest, most powerful collection of nations in the world.

There's no condemnation at all of the hideous barbarians who stormed a UN compound and slaughtered men and women in the name of Allah who were there on what they thought was a humanitarian mission on behalf of the very people who cheerfully murdered them.

No, no condemnation, because they were doing it on behalf of the Holy Qu'ran...which tells these people it's a holy deed to to terrorize unbelievers. The mullahs who incited the mob at Mazar-e-Sharif used that very same Holy Qu'ran as the marching orders for murder in the name of Islam.

And make no mistake...this was about Islam. The Nepalese guards who were under orders not to use their weapons to defend themselves, the Norwegian female aid workers, the Swedish and Romanian administrators who were dragged away and decapitated, all were non-Muslims. In fact, Pavel Ershov, a Russian diplomat who was captured by the mob managed to save his own life by convincing them he was a Muslim.

Instead, all of the general and the ambassador's condemnation and vitriol is devoted towards the preacher who burned a Qu'ran, in accordance with his First Amendment rights under our Constitution, something General Petraeus swore an oath to defend and protect. There's not even a call for justice to be executed on the murderers, or on the imams who incited them.

In subsequent statements. General Petraeus even doubled down, referring to the Qu'ran burning as "hateful, extremely disrespectful and enormously intolerant," and the mob as being in the grip of "perhaps understandable passions."

'Understandable passions?' Is this what it has come to? Have we lost all sense of ourselves and whom we are, that we now feel the need to bow down before the values of a bunch of savages living mentally in the 7th century?

In General Petraeus' defense, it must be remembered whom his commander-in-chief is, and that President Obama likely demanded something like this from him. But I think Patton, MacArthur and even Eisenhower would likely have resigned if FDR had ever demanded this sort of kowtowing from them.

The key phrase, of course occurs in the last part of this disgraceful missive, where General Petraeus and Ambassador Sedwill announce that our mission in Afghanistan is 'to help the Afghan people.'

Not to win a war, not to destroy our enemies, not even the amorphous goal of 'fighting terrorism', but to 'help the Afghan people'. That's why they say we're there. In that short phrase can be read the entire failure thus far of the war we've been involved in since 9/11.

It would never occur to them that the people they're talking about regard themselves as members of their local tribe or clan first, Muslims second, Pashtuns, Tajiks, Uzbeks and Hazaras third and Afghans as a very distant fourth, or that their idea of the sort of help might be very different from ours. Like wanting us gone, so they can resume their accustomed ways without interference.

Even more troubling than General Petraeus and Ambassador Sedwill are the pronouncements of certain US Senators, who appear to be leading the charge towards dhimmitude in American life.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid now claims he's going to have the Qu'ran burning 'looked into', whatever that means. And GOP Senator Lindsay Graham likewise is sounding the charge for legislation that " limit some forms of freedom of speech. Because we're in a war."

The stupidity of this, the inherent cultural cringe is a powerful reason why we're still losing this war a decade after it started. The same people who claim this is a war of ideas and values seem to be the first ones willing to disparage and disrespect our own. What happens, Senator , when something else happens that Muslims don't like and use as an excuse for murder in the name of Islam?

To paraphrase the old game show question, how low will you go? How far will you bend over?

Let me get one thing straight. There's only one reason, and only one for not burning a Qu'ran..and that's because it's rude and somewhat unkind. But there's no reason to elevate it to afford the Qu'ran, mosques or imams any more respect and tolerance than Muslims give churches, synagogues, Buddhist and Hindu Temples, the American flag, the Bible, the Torah, Priests, nuns, Rabbis or indeed just about any non-Muslim.

Here's a revolutionary concept to apply to the Muslim world - if you want our money, our trade, our military defending your regimes, access to Western technology and luxuries and visas to study and work in our countries, we demand respect for our customs and beliefs as the price of admission.

You want to send imams to America and fund mosques here? Fine, in exact relatio to the West's being able to send Christian missionaries and build churches in Dar Islam. You want Islam and its adherents free to worship and respected in our countries? Certainly...to the exact degree you respect Christians, Jews and other non-Muslims in yours. No more, no less.

To demand anything less is be as inherently racist as Senators Reid, Graham and the rest of the politically correct mob rushing towards dhimmitude and abasement are by assuming that Muslims by their very nature are incapable of acting like civilized human beings and exhibiting rational behavior.

If Senator Graham and Reid are correct, then perhaps we're better off in the long run taking Ann Coulter's advice the day after 9/11, invading the Muslim world and converting the inhabitants to Christianity.

However, if Graham and Reid and their ilk are wrong, we had better make some significant changes in how we deal with Islam, the Muslim world and the honor/shame culture that pervades them before all we're left with is Ann Coulter's alternative...or abject surrender.

Video: Wisconsin GOP Senator Saved From Union Lynch Mob By Dem Senator

    This is absolutely...unhinged.

Wisconsin State Senator Glenn Grothman (in the white hair and glasses)is chased and trapped by a mob of 'peaceful' leftist union demonstrators. The action starts at about 2:50.

In my opinion, Grothman was only saved from violence being done to his person by the appearance of Democrat State Senator Brett Hulsey ( orange union tee and sports jacket).

There is a problem with what some people have referred to as 'incivility' in America's political discourse. But that 'incivility' is almost entirely a creation of the Left, as I pointed out previously. It's not endemic in all of the Left ( note the demonstrators trying to calm the mob by chanting 'peaceful')but fro a large chunk, it's simply in their DNA. You need only remember this video to realize it.

    Michelle Malkin has more.

Video - 'Democracy ' In Action As Tunisians Attack Synagogue

Arab democracy indeed..the same old traditional cry of Iqbal al Yahud! (Slaughter the Jews)

Also, notice the prominence of the Black Flag of Jihad.

In 1948, there were something like 120,000 Jews living in Tunisia, and the country remains unique in the Muslim world by actually having any left, under 1,000, living there today.Small communities exist in Tunis, Zarzis and on the island of Djerba.

The synagogue being attacked above is the Grand Synagogue of Tunis.

I imagine that most of the remaining Jews will be leaving soon voluntarily and the ones that don't will be forced out..after everything they own has been plundered, of course.

    Massive Protests Hit Egypt

Al-Jazeera is reporting on massive protests in Egypt's major cities, calling for reforms and demanding the ouster of octogenarian President Hosni Mubarak and the ruling National Democratic Party.

Downtown Cairo was brought to a standstill with protesters chanting slogans against the police, the interior minister and the government, and further demonstrations were reported in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, the Nile Delta cities of Mansura and Tanta and in the southern cities of Aswan and Assiutin.

Egyptian riot police responded with water cannons, riot batons and tear gas and numerous arrests were reported. Official sources say that there were 30 arrests in Cairo alone, but my sources indicate that there were a lot more. Habib el-Adli, the interior minister, has issued orders to "arrest any persons expressing their views illegally".

Interested parties can follow developments on twitter: http://twitter.com/draddee#

    Here's the back story.

Hosni Mubarak has been ruling Egypt since the Muslim Brotherhood assassinated Anwar Sadat for making peace with Israel.Egypt is a US client state with very little oil wealth, a large and increasingly poverty stricken population - it's the most populous country in the Middle East, has an official unemployment rate of 10% and rising and a per capita household income of $5400.

The chief political opposition comes from the Muslim Brotherhood, the parent organization of Hamas.

Mubarak has been attempting to ensure the succession of his son Gawan to leadership, but its an open question whether he'll succeed. Egypt's last parliamentary elections were held at the insistence of George W. Bush at the height of his Arab Democracy fetish, but unlike the 'Palestinians' Mubarak was savvy enough not to go along with the program and game the results before things got out of hand.

If Egypt falls to a popular revolt,(and as in most Arab countries, it all depends on which way the army jumps) expect the following:

1)the Muslim Brotherhood will co-opt it and turn Egypt into an Islamic Republic along the lines of Iran or Gaza.

2)The new regime will be hostile to the US and it's armistice with Israel will be a thing of the past.

3)Jordan's King Abdullah may very well be the next to go, as Jordan becomes what it was supposed to be back when the Brits first created it in 1923 - the Arab Palestinian state, but under Muslim Brotherhood elements rather than the old Fatah mafiosos.

Royals Attacked In Britain By Protestors

Students protesting the tripling of university fees and tuition rioted in London yesterday, setting benches on fire vandalizing cars and buildings and battling police.

    http://d.yimg.com/a/p/rids/20101209/i/r3081264224.jpg?x=213&y=327&xc=1&yc=1&wc=293&hc=450&q=85&sig=WEPtfvsd4ajZC9mtHAyijg--

A high point of the festivities came when the Rolls limo carrying Prince Charles and Camilla was attacked by a crowd armed with sticks and bottles chanting 'off with their #@$!! heads.'

The Royals were unhurt, but attack was forceful enough to crack the bullet proof windshield on the car . One report I heard was that the Prince's security was just an instant away from opening fire on the mob.

This is just the latest reaction to the UK's new austerity program, which will involve massive cuts in welfare state programs and eliminate an estimated 500,000 public sector jobs.

After over a decade of Labour rule, Britain is essentially bankrupt.

The Europeans have done this sort of street theater before, and I would expect a lot more of this sort of thing as the welfare state crumbles.

For some absolutely unbelievable pictures of what was going on in London, see this Daily Mail piece.
