The Council Has Spoken! Our Watcher's Council Results

http://www.romanobritain.org/Photos/roman-senate2.jpg

The Council has spoken, the votes have been cast, and the results are in for this week's Watcher's Council match up.

"One must remember that the Jews have one, tiny country, the only place they have the right and capability to defend themselves by themselves. And it is our duty and my responsibility to see that we will never compromise about that. - Ariel Sharon (Z"L)

Peace is purchased from strength. It's not purchased from weakness or unilateral retreats. - Benyamin Netanyahu

"One fulfills his national duty voluntarily, as best as one can." - PLO Spokesman and Executive Committee member Mahmoud Ismail on official PA TV, using the term 'a national duty' to describe the murder of Eitam and Naama Henkin (HY"D) in front of four of their children.

"” When we are in a position where – through no fault of our own – physical force dominates, only one question can be asked: what is worse? To continue watching Jews being killed and the conviction grows that our lives our cheap, and among the whole world that we are spineless?…the blackest of all characteristics is the tradition of the cheapness of Jewish blood, on the shedding of which there is no prohibition and for which you do not pay.” - Ze'ev Jabotinsky

This week's winning essay,Joshuapundit'sTwo Speeches And Some Funerals. It is my reaction to recent events in Israel and in Jerusalem, and yes, their ultimate effect on America. Here's a slice:

Anyone remotely following the news from Israel knows that some serious violence has broken out there. As usual, the media bends over backwards to paint this as a 'cycle of violence' for which both sides are responsible. This is an outrageous, Newspeak lie, and as I'll show you, it has some serious implications for America, believe it or not.

Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority have long practiced a double game perfected by Abbas's old chief, Yasser Arafat. The idea is to mouth platitudes in English while funding and encouraging genocide against Jews in Arabic in the PLO's schools, mosques and media. And the current explosion of violence against Israel's Jews is directly linked to this tactic.

Abbas's recent speeches have literally involved marching orders to the Arabs whom call themselves Palestinians to violently attack Jews, primarily but not limited to Jerusalem.

Abbas was preparing the ground as long ago as September 17, just prior to the Jewish High Holy Days, saying: "Every drop of blood that has been spilled in Jerusalem is holy blood as long as it was for Allah. Every Martyr (Shahid) will reach Paradise, and everyone wounded will be rewarded, Allah willing.' ... We will not allow them to carry out their actions and divide the Al-Aqsa [Mosque], and stated: 'The Al-Aqsa [Mosque] is ours, and they have no right to defile it with their filthy feet. We will not allow them to, and we will do everything in our power to protect Jerusalem."

At the same time, the signals to attack Jews were amplified in th3e mosques, schools and media of 'Palestine' as they always are.

The Muslim Waqf which controls the al-Aksa mosque allowed the stockpiling of rocks, firebombs and iron bars on the mosque specifically to attack Jews worshiping at the Kotel(the Western Wall) below.

They deliberately sought to provoke a reaction from Israeli security forces.

In case you think mere rocks are no problem, I invite you to read this woman's account of being assaulted by the brave 'Palestinian' warriors.

Other attacks were planned and carried out against Israelis without warning, with cars being particularly vulnerable because of their orange Israeli license plates.

One of the first to die was Alexander Levlovitz, who was murdered when his car was attacked in the neighborhood of Har Homa. His wife and baby were injured by shards of broken glass.

 Alexander Levlovitz

One Israeli woman was actually pulled from her car after it was stoned and was only saved from assault and worse by Israeli passerbys who fired on the crowd.

Mahmoud Abbas's recent speech in the UN has to be seen in the context of the terrorist attacks he and Fatah were and are encouraging.

In it, he talked of 'a year of a new war of genocide perpetrated against the Palestinian people' and 'the historic injustice inflicted on the Palestinian people in Al-Nakba of 1948, the occupying Power has chosen to defy the entire world by launching its war on Gaza, by which its jets and tanks brutally assassinated lives and devastated the homes, schools and dreams of thousands of Palestinian children, women and men and in reality destroying the remaining hopes for peace.'

Actually, it's the other way around. The real attempted genocide is being launched by the Arabs whom call themselves Palestinians against Israel's Jews.

Abbas also said that the Palestinian Authority was no longer bound by Oslo or any other agreements it has signed with Israel. That was really no big news since they have never abided by the terms of Oslo anyway, and Selim Fayyad, the former PLO PM made it clear some time ago.

Under US law and the terms of the agreements, this should have resulted in a suspension of funding for 'Palestine.' Don't hold your breath. Instead, the 'Palestinian' flag was raised at the UN for the first time, in spite of the fact that only member nations are supposed to be allowed to do so.Deceitful, which is how both Benyamin Netanyahu and virtually every Israeli figure of note referred to the speech hardly covers this tissue of lies.

The speech, by the way was attended by America's UN ambassador and President Obama, neither of whom attended Israeli PM Benyamin Netanyahu's subsequent speech on which more later. But it was obviously the signal for more terrorist attacks.

Eitam and Naama Henkin of Neria, who were murdered in a drive-by terror attack near Nablus on Thursday, October 1, 2015. (screen capture, Channel 2)

Eitam and Naama Henkin (HY"D) , were murdered in a drive by shooting by Arabs belonging to the al-Aksa Martyrs brigade, part of Fatah. They were killed in front of four of their children. According to investigators, Eitem used his last strength to open the car door and tell his four children aged aged 4 months, 4, 7 and 9 to flee and hide. That and the fact that the alarm had been raised is all that saved them. Eitam Henkin, by the way, was an America citizen, and our Secretary of State's response was a pro forma condemnation and an urge for both sides to 'reduce tension.'

One of the weapons involved was a U.S. M-16 provided for PLO 'security forces.'

Thousands of Israelis attended their funeral...and a particularly poignant moment was when their nine-year old son recited kaddish for his parents, the Jewish prayer for the dead. The Henkins left six children to be raised by their grandparents.

Aside from throwing rocks and firebombs, another tactic being used is random stabbings. There have been multiple attacks of this sort.

One of the more serious ones involved the murder of Rabbi Nehemia Lavi, 41, and Aharon Banita, 21 (HY'D)and the stabbing and wounding of Mrs. Banita and her baby as Arab onlookers applauded, spat on them and kicked them.

Here's how the BBC reported this attack:

The attacks have continued, without even a faux condemnation by the PLO or Abbas. And why not? This is exactly what they've encouraged and planned.

Our Weasel of The Week!

Yes, once again, It's time to present this week's statuette of shame, The Golden Weasel!!

Every Tuesday, the Council nominates some of the slimiest, most despicable characters in public life for some deed of evil, cowardice or corruption they’ve performed. Then we vote to single out one particular Weasel for special mention, to whom we award the statuette of shame, our special, 100% plastic Golden Weasel. This week's nominees were particularly slimy and despicable, but the votes are in and we have our winner...the envelope please...

 https://i1.wp.com/thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/obama5.jpg

Puma By Design : My nominee for Weasel of the Week goes to Barack Hussein Obama who began politicizing the death of nine people killed at Umpqua Community College in Oregon last week before rigor mortis set in (no disrespected intended, just trying to make a point).

I suspect that Obama‘s speech last week was actually written months ago, locked away in a desk in the Oval Office along with a batch of executive orders on gun control that the White House claims is being prepared for Obama’s signature.

From Breitbart:

“It’s a high priority and will continue to be until we start to see more progress on this issue in this town,’ White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters today at the press briefing…
‘I can tell you that they’re not stumped, they’re continuing to review the law that’s on the books and continuing to consult with legal authorities but also others who may have ideas about what steps that can be taken to keep guns out of the hands of criminals,’ Earnest said…”

Obama's been stewing like a petulant child since his 2013-failed attempt to overhaul the gun laws has been anxiously awaiting the perfect crisis to add another chapter to his legacy memoirs even though it means dancing on the graves of those killed by mentally unstable nut jobs nudged over the edge by several years of hateful conflict-ridden Marxist propaganda often espoused by Obama himself and his sock puppets in the mainstream media and streets of America.

Finally, we have Obama’s double standard about when to call for gun control. The image below puts it all in perspective.

Well, after all, those were just some members of our military, right? And no need to make a big deal out of it, especially since Muslims were concerned. I also love the way CNN tried to create the Great White Perpetrator out of the killer..especially when he could, you know, be Obama's son if he had one, based on our president's  racial and religious  background:

CNN Turns Mixed Race Oregon Shooter into a White Man

Shakespeare had it right centuries ago. The fault is not in our stars but in ourselves in that we are underlings. And allow ourselves to be ruled in this fashion.

  Well, there it is.

Check back next Tuesday to see who next week's nominees for Weasel of the Week are!

The attacks have continued, without even a faux condemnation by the PLO or Abbas. And why not? This is exactly what they've encouraged and planned.

Needless to say, the Obama Administration continues to call for 'both sides to reduce tension.' To them, Israel obviously is at equal fault for even existing and attempting to protect its people.

And the UN? Instead of voicing any concern for the victims of these unprovoked attacks, they're concerned about the terrorist attackers.

"The Secretary-General condemns the killings and looks to the Government of Israel to conduct a prompt and transparent investigation into the incidents, including whether the use of force was proportional."

He did not mention what the Palestinian Authority might do to reign in the recent violence or condemn the recent terror attacks which left Israelis dead and others wounded in stabbing and shooting attacks in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

*************

Benyamin Netanyahu's speech at the UN mainly concerned Iran.

It was essentially a useless but eloquent cri d'cour in front of a half empty UN General Assembly. Attending were three obviously embarrassed State Department functionaries whom were careful not to applaud, at least not too openly. America's President, Secretary of State and UN Ambassador were absent.

The high point of the speech was Netanyahu's accusing the UN of aiding and abetting a genocidal regime that intends to murder the Israeli people - followed by a 45-second silence where you can literally feel some of the attendees withering under Netanyahu's accusatory glance.

While Netanyahu pledged that Israel has defended itself, is defending itself and will defend itself (a phrasing purposely borrowed from Shachris, the Jewish morning prayer concerning G-d's reign over the earth) he merely emphasized that Israel now stands alone. And that the Obama Administration has picked sides in this war, even to the extent of threatening Israel to withhold a U.S. veto on a UN resolution unilaterally proclaiming 'Palestine' on the pre-1967 lines including East Jerusalem, something that would create half a million Jewish refugees and attempt to force Israel back to indefensible borders if it dares to build homes for its people or takes steps our president deems too thorough to curtail the terrorist attacks.

Unlike Czechoslovakia, do not expect Israel to simply succumb to this without a fight. They really have no other place to go, and disapproval by the UN or the Obama Administration isn't going to weigh much against extermination. That is literally the choice they have been forced into making.

Israel has survived before under far greater odds, and without the backing of the United States. It may very well have to do so again.

If I were speaking to Netanyahu, I'd tell him in no uncertain terms that President Obama intends to do this anyway before he leaves office. When someone blackmails you based on hatred and ideology, they will always eventually do what they threaten you with.

Israel must make its future decisions based on this reality. Virtually every attempt to appease Obama has simply resulted in more dead Jews and increased danger for the country.

The odd part is that this kind of blackmail is likely to create an even more hard line Israeli government, as Netanyahu is currently being assailed by his coalition to do something to protect Israel's citizens. But perhaps that's what our president has in mind anyway, to force Israel into a major split with the US that he can then point to as a reason to cut ties and lead the charge to isolate Israel internationally, that daylight between America and Israel he's been talking about since 2009.

If Israel can no longer depend on America as an ally, perhaps that actually might be for the best.Reality beats fantasy and illusion every time.

So how does this relate to America and our lives here? More than you can imagine, if present trends continue.

In spite of CAIR's propaganda, there were just over three million Muslims in America when President Obama took office. He has brought almost a million more Muslims into America via diversity visas, family unification and refugee asylum, and he plans to bring far more into America before he leaves in 16 months. In fact, it's quite likely that the Muslim population of America is going to double during his terms in office. Arabic is already the fastest growing language on U.S. college campuses and among the immigrant population in general. The Obama Administration's anti-Israel stance is designed to appeal to these new voters and existing Democrats whom would just as soon get a temporary refuge from history by cutting all ties with Israel and the region.

After all, that vacation from history worked so well during the Clinton years, didn't it?

Rest assured that this increase is also going to change how we live, and that's particularly true if you are Jewish, homosexual or female. We're already seeing  increased crime...and vastly increased welfare costs. This is a mirror to  what is happening in Europe now. And we can expect a lot more Nidal Hassans,  Mohammad Abdulazeezses and Tsaernov brothers to surface.

Ironically, if this trend continues the same Leftist Jews whom have worshiped Obama are going to be targeted, and left wondering what happened. They may very well look towards the Israel they been so anxious to demonize as their refuge, just as many Jews in Europe do now.

From a foreign policy standpoint, if this moves in the same direction in the future America will have replaced a firm ally with countries like Iran that still want infidel America destroyed and are anxious to work towards that end. And other countries, who have already seen how the Obama Administration treats an ally are already distancing themselves.

I will leave it to you to decide whether this is the kind of America you want to live in.

Our Weasel Of The Week Nominees!

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/89/256833910_dc5e794df2.jpg

It's time once again for the Watcher's Council's 'Weasel Of The Week' nominations, where we pick our choices to compete for the award of the famed Golden Weasel to a public figure who particularly deserves to be slimed and mocked for his or her dastardly deeds during the week. Every Tuesday morning, tune in for the Weasel of the Week nominations!

Here are this weeks' nominees....

 http://www.motherjones.com/files/imagecache/master-tall/rand-paul-weird-face.jpg
The Man Who Would Be President, Senator Rand Paul!

The Noisy Room : My nomination this week goes to Rand Paul:

Sen. Rand Paul on Tuesday said fellow Republican presidential candidate Ted. Cruz is “done for” in the Senate.

“Ted has chosen to make this really personal and chosen to call people dishonest in leadership and call them names, which really goes against the decorum and also against the rules of the Senate, and as a consequence, he can’t get anything done legislatively,” Paul told Fox News Radio. “He is pretty much done for and stifled and it’s really because of personal relationships, or lack of personal relationships, and it is a problem”. . .

“I approach things a little different, I am still just as hardcore in saying what we are doing, I just chose not to call people liars on the Senate floor and it’s just a matter of different perspectives on how best to get to the end result,” Paul said in the interview.

Paul backed McConnell’s 2014 re-election bid. Cruz had accused McConnell of lying to him about the way forward for the revival of the Export-Import Bank in the Senate.

Senator Ted Cruz attempted to offer an amendment to the must pass spending bill that would have halted the implementation of Obama’s Iran Deal and public funding to abortionists like Planned Parenthood… Cruz however wanted to make one last effort to put members of the Senate on the record, but GOP Senators were so scared of voting to strike funding for these Obama priorities that they opted to block Cruz from even receiving a vote. Cruz stood alone and did the right thing. No one backed him... no one. But he had the courage of his convictions and he stood.

For betraying a friend and a fellow Tea Party activist, Paul definitely has earned the Golden Weasel. For supporting the likes of Mitch McConnell and trying to publicly end Cruz's political career, he should get it twice.

Forum: What changes Would You Make To Our Electoral/Political Process?

Every week on Monday morning , the Council and our invited guests weigh in at the Watcher's Forum, short takes on a major issue of the day, the culture, or daily living. This week's question: What changes Would You Make To Our Electoral/Political Process?

Maggie's Notebook : My opinions take the dim view that many voters do not know the issues and don't want to take the time to learn. Not much to say about those who vote but haven't the capacity to make a common sense decision.

Constitutional/Constitutional Issues:
1) Term Limits for House - 6 two-year terms (12 years total) and Senate 2 six-year terms (12 years total) - then bye bye.
2) President: One six year term.
3) Keep the Electoral College

The election process: Avoiding the issue of states' rights. In theory, I believe the following will better our election process, and what afters after:

1) Photo voter I.D. with signature that is checked at the polls with a pollster placing his/her initials next to the voter's signature.

2) Voter must sign an oath that he/she has not voted in another state for the same election

3) Voting is a privilege and a duty: No slackers registering same day for a 6-pack of beer or a pint, and a carton of cigarettes. At least 60 days registration, prior to election day, to vet the voter and add him/her to the polls. No votes cast or counted if not already on the official voter registration records. We are better off without an honest vote due to time restrictions, than with the fraudulent votes cast every election cycle. It should be our privilege and our duty to cooperate with a system that control fraud.

4) Only defined, controlled places to register. No more hippies, modern day hippies, those looking for drug money, or those on welfare, with a clipboard on a corner.

5) Complete transparency with absentee ballots. The ballots should be counted and recorded, with a great deal of security, as they come in. Every vote counts whether it changes anything or not.

6) Do away with "early" voting. We have absentee ballots. What's the difference, other than making your Tuesday easier to manage?

7) Gerrymandering needs a common-sense overhaul, sometime to protect us from our own party. Example: Former Congressman Allan West.

8) Some "rules" made by the House and the Senate should be considered dishonorable, and abolished, and unchangeable. From session-to-session we need fairness and consistency –– not partisan privilege.

9) The Speaker of the House should be required to vote. To think the Speaker's position is non-partisan is ludicrous.

10) The vote for Speaker of the House must be by secret ballot. There should be no threat of losing committee assignments because your loyalty is seen as questionable. If you lose your committee after the election, it can't be blamed on the way you voted. What we have now is close to blackmail.

The Independent Sentinel : I'm not sure what should be done but it probably has to be done soon while Republicans still have some power. The assault on the Electoral College won't be cured by the National Popular Vote but there must be something that can be done. We certainly need to look at the illegal immigration and refugee policies and the way we count for the census.

We are on a track to be a one-party system.

JoshuaPundit ; I think we've got problems in two areas, foundation and process. Foundation issues include the Left's control of public education (including the major journalism schools) and I see a direct correlation between this and the declining quality of many of our public office holders. Issues like racial gerrymandering,  the problem of people with no stake in the game voting taxpayer funded benefits for themselves at the expense of others and a general disrespect for what out Founders achieved by the educational establishment are among them.   These can be fixed but are a long term battle.

Process, I think, could be vastly improved much easier and would likely make the foundation issues easier to solve given time.

The first problem is our constant campaign season. The electorate's limited attention span is challenged by the constant drumbeat of ads, media 'analysis' and talking points and the real issues get lost in the shuffle as many Americans simply turn off and vote by sheer instinct.

This leads to the second major problem, the sheer amount of money involved. Imagine hiring someone to paint your house who spent most of his time on the phone or knocking on doors to get more work rather than doing what you hired him for and you begin to see the problem we have. And that's not  even mentioning the temptation of making an easy score by pushing legislation or special arrangement for corporations, unions and pressure groups with cash to dole out to hungry legislators.

We could solve this not by taking money out of politics but by making it of very limited use.

Our elections come  in November. Pass a law forbidding any political advertising for a candidate, any formation of 'exploratory committees' or any overt campaigning prior to February 1st of the election year for both incumbents and challengers.  Politicians always make speeches, but no fees, honorariums, donations or 'expenses' could be solicited or received, and doing so would be a felony.   Television advertising would be severely limited even after February, and largely limited to debates.

Such debates would be Lincoln-Douglas style only, presented only on radio, C-Span or PBS and would have no moderators, only a timekeeper.

Statutory legal limits would be set by individual state legislators and by a neutral national committee  on the maximum amount allowed to be spent for the presidential race and for state offices. No individual candidate would be allowed to fund raise for him or herself. Instead, any campaign donations would have to be donated to the FEC who would then forward it to the candidate's party. For instance, if presidential campaign funding in a given year is limited to, say,  $5 million, it wouldn't matter if a billion dollars poured in - only $5 million would be of any use. Violations of this would be class A felonies.

A two week moratorium on all ads, campaigning and electioneering prior to election day would be strictly enforced, And no media outlet would be allowed to run the usual election night shows - no 'calling' of elections, no nonsense exit polls, no weighty analysis by the usual talking heads trying to fill time. Nothing until all national polls had closed. Along these lines, a federal voter ID law and the elimination of electronic voting machines in favor of paper ballots would be positive changes.

What we'd have here is a much shorter, much more substantive  campaign season, far less attack ads, much more voter engagement, meaningful debate on the issues  and elected officials who could actually go to Washington to do the people's business rather than working like rats in heat from the moment they're elected to raise funds for another term.

Laura Rambeau Lee, Right Reason : One of the major changes I would make would be to repeal the Seventeenth Amendment. Ratified on April 8, 1913, Senators began to be elected by the people. Prior to this amendment, as per Article 1, Section 3 of the Constitution: “The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, chosen by the Legislature thereof, for six years…” The Seventeenth Amendment amassed more power to the federal government and away from the States. Senators no longer serve the people of the State they represent, and the federal grasp for power has continued to grow since this amendment was passed.

Term limits should be imposed, and no one serving should receive a pension of any kind after leaving office. All elected officials should return to private life and live under the laws they created. We need to end this class of political elites running our country.

As far as the presidential elections, it is difficult to say how the process could be improved. Ideally, there would be a shorter election season and televised debates between the candidates on the real issues hosted by unbiased moderators, so we would know each candidate’s position and how they would address the challenges facing our country.

In addition, every candidate for public office should be subject to an extensive background check. Anyone with affiliations to un-American organizations should be disqualified. It is incredible the people who serve on high level security committees who would not qualify to get security clearances for a job in the military or our intelligence agencies.

The Glittering Eye : Since I think that just about every change from the Founders' original structure has been an error, it's hard to know where to begin.  I'll just hit a few high points.

I think the popular election of the Senate has upset the balance of our federal system--we should repeal the 17th amendment.  We should greatly increase the size of the House.  We should enact an anti-gerrymandering amendment.  I think there's merit to limiting the census enumeration to citizens.  We should establish term limits.  We should have mandatory retirement ages for legislators.  No elected office should be eligible for a pension.  We should have the power of recall.  We should establish uniform residency requirements for legislators and they should be deemed to reside wherever they sleep most frequently in the course of a year.

That's a start.

The Council Has Spoken! Our Watcher's Council Results

The Council has spoken, the votes have been cast, and the results are in for this week's Watcher's Council match up.

"When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills." - Chinese proverb

Peace is purchased from strength. It's not purchased from weakness or unilateral retreats. - Benyamin Netanyahu

"The Middle East is obviously an issue that has plagued the region for centuries."- President Barack Hussein Obama

"Instead of the triumph of democracy and progress, we got violence, poverty and social disaster — and nobody cares a bit about human rights, including the right to life. I cannot help asking those who have forced that situation: Do you realize what you have done?" - Vladimir Putin at the UN September 2015, commenting on those whom supported Islamist revolutions and left a vacuum of power in the region.

This week's winning essay,Joshuapundit's, The Real Story Behind Putin And Netanyahu's Moscow Meeting - Updated deals with the real story of what went down at Russian leader Vladimir Putin's meeting with Israeli PM Benyamin Netanyahu in Moscow, an analysis on what the Russians are up to in Syria and my accurate prediction on whom they would mount airstrikes against - and it wasn't ISIS.

Here's a slice:

The recent meeting between Israeli PM Benyamin Netanyahu and Russian leader Vladimir Putin has sparked the usual nonsense in the media, usually complemented by analysis from 'experts' in academia or a former security head or two - usually affiliated with the Leftist Labor party - long out of the loop.

Here's an outline on what actually went down, according to one of my notorious Little Birdies.

The Israelis actually welcome, in a sense, the new Russian base in Syria. They see it as a stabilizing force, and they also know that Russia is chiefly interested in preserving their ally Assad and their Mediterranean access via the Syrian port of Tartous.

Israel's chief concerns are the possible build up of a new terrorist front in the Golan Heights now that Iran has all that cash courtesy of President Obama, avoiding any clashes with Russian personnel now deployed in Syria and stopping any weapons shipments going to Hezbollah. The Israelis already understand that the Russian alliance with Iran means that Russia is going to be little or no help in dealing with Iran's nuclear threat.

Contrary to what you may be reading elsewhere, Russia did not request nor did Israel agree to any formal limits on its ability to intervene in Syria to stop weapons shipments to Hezbollah or terrorist attacks on the Golan. What Israeli chief of staff Lt. Gen. Gady Eisenkot and his Russian equivalent Gen. Valery Gerasimov agreed on was the establishment of a hotline between the Russian and Israeli general staffs.

This will connect the offices of Gerasimov’s deputy, Gen. Nikolay Bogdanovsky in Moscow and Eisenkot’s deputy, Gen. Yair Golan, in Tel Aviv. It is designed to facilitate communications and clarify things during or after Russian or Israeli military operations in Syria and to avoid any unnecessary clashes between the two military forces.

Israel has a similar setup with American forces in the region to facilitate military cooperation. Since Russia is by now the dominant source of non-native boots on the ground in the region, such an arrangement only makes sense.

Other possible topics for discussion likely involved an Israeli request that the Russians not introduce certain advanced weapons systems into the area. Israel had a similar deal with Putin in the past after successful Israeli strikes on Syrian bases storing arms bound for Hezbollah. That arrangement exploded after Putin found out that President Obama had secretly moved 1,800 US troops to the Jordan border with Syria while the two of them were supposedly working on a diplomatic solution to Syria and the EU ended an arms embargo on the rebels in what was obviously a co-ordinated move.

Much is being made of Russian S-300 missile systems, but the last time Putin shipped S-300s into the Middle East, the Russian Ship Arctic Sea was mysteriously hijacked en route to Iran, the S-300s were removed and disappeared and it was Israel's Mossad who told the Russians where they could find their ship, which had been boarded by a mysterious group of men posing as narcotics agents off the coast of Sweden some days earlier.

The Israelis have obviously had their hands on these for some time and figured out how to deal with them. And the Russian SAMS guarding Syria's nuclear site they set up in connivance with North Korea didn't have much effect on Israel's planes either, you'll recall.

Putin will likely continue to sell arms to Syria and Iran for transfer to Hezbollah, but will turn a blind eye on Israeli interdiction of those shipments as long as he gets paid and there are no major Russian casualties. He may also have agreed to avoid introducing certain weapons systems into the region like the Kornet missiles as part of this new understanding.

Netanyahu was quoted in the Times of Israel as saying that he told Putin in “no uncertain terms” that Israel will not tolerate Tehran’s efforts to arm Israel’s enemies in the region, and that Jerusalem has taken and will continue to take action against any such attempts. “This is our right and also our duty. There were no objections to our rights and to what I said. On the contrary: there was readiness to make sure that whatever Russia’s intentions for Syria, Russia will not be a partner in extreme actions by Iran against us.”

Putin responded by saying that the Syrian army was too bogged down in its own civil war to deal with fighting against Israel.

“All of Russia’s actions in the region will always be very responsible,” Putin said. “We are aware of the shelling against Israel and we condemn all such shelling. I know that these shellings are carried out by internal elements. In regard to Syria, we know that the Syrian army is in a situation such that it is incapable of opening a new front. Our main goal is to defend the Syrian state. However, I understand your concern.”

Wild California - Cougar Sightings Near Populated Areas

A mountain lion, also known as a cougar, climbed up a 35-foot-high wooden power pole Tuesday afternoon near Cougar Buttes in Lucerne Valley on East End Road.

Californians have been rattled lately by sightings of cougars, AKA mountain lions in suburban and ex-urban areas close to mountain areas. This one was seen in Hesperia, which is by no means a small town out in the boonies! As reported in the Daily Press:

Jose Ruiz, a resident who lives across the street from the pole, told the Daily Press that the mountain lion was startled by children coming home in a Lucerne Valley Unified School District school bus. They were yelling with excitement and the big cat scurried up the pole, Ruiz said.

The mountain lion came down from the high-voltage power pole sometime Tuesday night and was not seen the next day, Ruiz said.

They've also been seen on high desert communities like Victorville.

Where I used to live, one of these critters came down from the hills, killed an Akita dog belonging to a friend of mine and dragged it back up the canyon. They don't really understand fences, pets or even small choldren and just see an easy meal, although they mostly stay clear of humans.

Interesting Video - Hannity Grills House Speaker Candidate Kevin McCarthy

Sean Hannity does a good job here of grilling House Speaker candidate Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on how he'd be different than John Boehner, and McCarthy actually holds his own fairly well.

He's definitely right about Mitch McConnell and the Senate's primary responsibility in failing to pass a number of good legislation that's made it through the House.

Our Weasel Of The Week!!

It's time to present this week's statuette of shame, The Golden Weasel!!

This week's nominees were all slimy and despicable, but the votes are in and we have our winner...the envelope please...

 WGN TV's Production Department!

Puma By Design : My nominee for Weasel of the Week are the boneheads in the production department at WGN-TV, Chicago who chose for last week’s news story on Yom Kippur that horrible image of the yellow Star of David that Nazis forced Jews to wear during the Holocaust.

According to the first news report I saw, once an editor pointed the offense of using the illustration, WGN-TV immediate issued an apology on social media. However, according to the Telegraph.co.uk, WGN, stated that “the image came from its image bank, and they ‘failed to recognise that the image was an offensive Nazi symbol.’”

The next day, WGN issued an on-air apology, “Last night we ran a story to recognize Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement. Regrettably, we failed to recognize that the artwork we chose to accompany the story contained an offensive symbol. This was an unfortunate mistake. Ignorance is not an excuse.”

While ignorance is no excuse, the production department, the journalists and those working behind the scenes should have immediately noticed the error before the news story went live.

Finally, who will be held accountable? Oh my bad, NO ONE. Yet if it were a Black person, Muslim or a member of the Gay Gestapo, head(s) would have rolled and a lawsuit pending by now.

I have to admit, using an image of the Nazi's yellow star on a story about Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement is a real lapse of judgment, especially since it had 'Jude' written across it and a background of striped cloth to represent the garb the Nazis made concentration camp inmates wear.

In his book Crusade in Europe,  General Eisenhower related how once the camps were liberated, he immediately got in touch with reporters, photographers and media outlets and leaned on them heavily to come to Europe, record what they saw and interview the survivors because he foresaw a time when 'men would deny that this happened.'

As a matter of fact, one of those men, Mahmoud Abbas addressed the UN today with an absolute pack of lies, among them that  'Palestine' has always educated its people for peace. Abbas's book on Holocaust denial, his thesis while he was being trained by the Soviets  at Moscow University is required  reading in what passes for the school curriculum in the PLO's little kleptocracy.

In spite of the noble efforts of General Eisenhower and others, the world has pretty much forgotten the Holocaust. And words like 'Nazi,' 'concentration camp,' and 'genocide' get thrown around pretty freely these days by people whom you'd think would be embarrassed to do so.

 Well, there it is.

Check back next Tuesday to see who next week's nominees for Weasel of the Week are!

Our Weasel Of The Week Nominees

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/89/256833910_dc5e794df2.jpg

It's time once again for the Watcher's Council's 'Weasel Of The Week' nominations, where we pick our choices to compete for the award of the famed Golden Weasel to a public figure who particularly deserves to be slimed and mocked for his or her dastardly deeds during the week. Every Tuesday morning, tune in for the Weasel of the Week nominations!

Here are this weeks' nominees....

Baby Parts Merchants Planned Parenthood !

The Noisy Room: My nomination this week goes to Planned Parenthood for their condom encounter with Carly Fiorina. Planned Parenthood and Code Pink descended on Carly Fiorina in Iowa and screamed insults and profanities at her. Then they hurled condoms at Carly. Classy. Bonus… one of the morons protesting was dressed up as a birth control pill dispenser. Drolly chic, n’est–ce pas? Quite a feat being a clown and a genocidal butcher at the same time, but these radicals pull it off. Paging Stephen King. They were furious that Fiorina spoke out against them in the last debate. Carly handled the encounter with class and decorum. She was impressive in handling these asshats. Hope she didn’t keep a souvenir. She informed at least one protester that she was a cancer survivor and cared about women’s rights as well. She also pointed out that tax payers fund Planned Parenthood, who in turn fund the Democrats. It’s a political shell game. Why, yes it is.

All Planned Parenthood and the commies from CodePink know is talking points and propaganda. They are demanding their right to butcher the unborn. Imagine that – genocidal maniacs have rights too. The cold hard facts of what Planned Parenthood does in their horror chambers are clear cut and out there for all to see – literally. It would have been nice if Fiorina had turned around and called them the psychotic butchers they are. I know I would have. Small blessings… at least the condoms were still in their packages. This was at a tailgate party before a Hawkeyes game. These losers were shouting, “Layoffs, lies, no surprise, Carly fumbles for these Hawkeyes!” Seriously? That’s the best these brainless twits can come up with? Points to Fiorina though for the following… at one point, one woman asked Fiorina why she doesn’t support women’s health care… Fiorina responded, “Oh, I support your health care. I don’t support the butchering of babies.” You go girl! For being moonbat crazy, genocidally murderous and just plain gross, Planned Parenthood should get the golden statuette for being the pink weasels they are.

Well, there it is. What a despicable group of  Weasels...ANY OF THEM COULD WIN! Check back Thursday to see which Weasel walks off with the statuette of shame!
